Nice day for Paul Menard, sucks that JR ran out, but not sure if I could deal with another week of Jr Nation

2 top 5s and a top 10 for Gordon so far this year. Best starting in over a decade. Only issue is that he could have finished top 5 with better calls on pit road.

Now people go get the win at Bristol.
 
God that sucked. I thought he could just make it. Well, hoped....
 
What a finish.

As the official presenter of the AJ Foyt Laptop Smashing Award, Dale Jr. will not be getting the award today due to a second place finish, although it was a very close case and that fuel pickup was definitely sucking down oxygen at one point for about half a second.

Give credit to Gustafson for a solid car - they were around 5th place 85% of the race.

I don't think Gustafson called a very strong race strategy-wise - they stayed out on the long green flag run and dropped from 6th to 8th and they didn't even gamble on the last stop. What was the point of staying out so long before pitting?

In-race communication and adjustments have to get better. It's concerning how poorly they can't keep up with the track.

But 9th place after the race they had at Vegas last year......it wasn't all bad obviously. Very strong car at times today.

lol what else would he do but drive as hard as he could? He didn't need to save fuel.

Yep, he sounded really disappointed.

I'd have been a lot more disappointed if Junior hadn't won the 500 and run second at Phoenix. Dude is on it this year. I understand he's disappointed to lose it like that, but he has nothing to be ashamed of.

Jr. started racing as hard as he could with 10 or so laps to go. He was already racing hard. He would have run out regardless.

Jr. himself even said the car started stuttering coming off of turn 2 on the final lap.

You cant save that much and still win.

They may be kicking themselves for not staying out a lap or two long on the previous green flag run.....but maybe they stretched it out as long as they possibly thought they could.

Edwards finished 5th with a car that couldn't even run top-15 all day......nice call. Track position still king.

Now thats REALLY awesome, Bristol is one of my favorite races to watch. Hope to get there while I can still climb the bleachers.
