Las Vegas RACE thread

Even luckier, I'm staying with some family that live about 20 miles from the track. No $200 a night Motel 6's for me!

$200 a night??? I guess that's what it is if you stay within a few miles of the track. I'm staying at motel 6 in Birmingham for the Dega race and it was $45 for Thursday and $61 for Friday and Saturday. The hotels in Talladega were near tat $150 mark though.

Yeah, I don't think it's that way everywhere, but the Bristol area hotels/motels are notorious for their price gouging on race weekends. I went to Chicagoland a few years ago and got a Ramada 15 miles from the track for $70 a night for the whole weekend.

I've never been a fan of Bristol's new type of racing......they've made it from a one-groove track on the bottom to a one-groove track on the top. Very, very tough to pass.

And double file-restarts aren't fair to half the field on short tracks.....if you're on the top at Martinsville, you're f'ed. If you're on the bottom at Bristol, you're f'ed.

It's just a lot of things that are out of your control.

That's because the town of Bristol has so few hotels. A large city like Chicago has many hotels.

These guys dont even bother showing points anymore. Even the clueless 3 stooges know its pointless to show points anymore.

Best thing about today, streaming PRN. Only problem was that the stream was about 1.5 laps behind. Damn, thinking back I shoulda just paused the race for 30 seconds or so.

Oh well. Exciting finish for a fuel gamble though.

Give credit to Gustafson for a solid car - they were around 5th place 85% of the race.

I don't think Gustafson called a very strong race strategy-wise - they stayed out on the long green flag run and dropped from 6th to 8th and they didn't even gamble on the last stop. What was the point of staying out so long before pitting?

In-race communication and adjustments have to get better. It's concerning how poorly they can't keep up with the track.

But 9th place after the race they had at Vegas last year......it wasn't all bad obviously. Very strong car at times today.

Most importantly, before the race if you told me Gordon would finish 9th I would have been ecstatic because his car was pretty much junk the entire weekend outside of the race. Did a good job getting the car that much better.

Good finish. Wish roles were reversed though.

Some good racing from what I saw on the broadcast. Bummed the 24 didn't finish stronger but still better than they were all weekend.

Hate this championship. Should be stoked on some good points days and Harvick shouldn't have been all smiles in the interview after the hub issue.

What the hell happened to the 14 and the 41? Terrible.

Kurt is likely already secretly talking with other teams about a ride for next year.
It would've been curious to hear Kurt Busch over the radio.......if he was being a big baby or not with his new team. How long he will continue to be patient and how his new team will respond if/when he has one of his little episodes on the radio - it'll be interesting.

I wouldn't mind single-file restarts at select tracks.

Is there a post race show anywhere besides that 15min post races show on fox?

No speed at all in the #14 all season so far. They actually lost to both Front Row Motorsports teams today.
It's nothing we haven't seen before......Gordon was 25th at Vegas last year but started finding speed as summer approached. And I wouldn't expect anything different for both the 14 and 41. Brand new season, brand new rules, brand new crew chief for Tony Stewart.

But if you're going to be bad, why not be REALLY bad? At least the 14 did that today!! 33rd place with no issues of any kind? Wow. Considering there's about 5-10 severely underfunded cars every week that shouldn't even be in the field (seriously, trim it to like a 40-car field) - he was basically the worst car of the race.

It's really difficult to tell how the car is in practice......he was 23rd in final practice, but that only ranks each team's fastest lap. I've seen him have bad practice times and a great car in the race, and good practice times and a bad car in the race.

However, when I saw Gordon was like 12th out of 18 cars to make a 10-lap run yesterday.....I was more concerned. And then Gordon said he just hoped he hang with the best cars or whatever in the pre-race show with Waltrip - I wasn't expecting much and was pleasantly surprised when Gordon stormed into the top-10 very quickly to begin the race.

I'm still disappointed they finished 9th after hanging around he top-5 all day but still a pretty strong performance. Imagine how good they could be if they make the car better during pit stops?

My bold prediction for the year was that a CC would fall before the end of the year. It's coming. Chad should be on the Vickers ride, but nooooooo. Might still end up there. Would say that Tony changes CC's more than he changes his underwear, but, um, you know.....

As they say......Wait for it, wait for it....

I think DW is alright. He's oftentimes full of...mud but i don't mind listening to him.
