Morgan Shepherd - Too old to be behind the wheel of a Cup car?

Its been said that the 33 ride is a dead end ride. No one who wants to go somewhere would get in that ride.

wonder why Morgan ran most of the race...I thought it was too expensive for start and parks to do that....
I think the only car that's started and parked since Darlington is the third BK Racing car (#93) that the team brought out at Kentucky and New Hampshire because there wasn't a full field yet.

The Nascar Jesus has spoken. With the lap times he ran at New Hampshire you wonder why they didn't black flag him with a low tire when he was on the outside almost parked and falling back like a rock. Bet he was glad they didn't raise the minimum speed yesterday.

Jeff lapped Morgan 3 times while having a flat tire.

Got any more brilliant insight?

One of these genius NASCAR sportswriters, instead of jacking each other off in the press box should of asked Roger Penske what he thought about Shepherd wrecking one of his cars. He's a little bit older than Shepherd and still races in the Mille Miglia occasionally.

It was an accident. Joey had the better car and should have avoided Morgan's moving chicane. Morgan has the right to be on the track as long as his car meets NASCAR standards.

The real question is what is a minimum speed? I think in F1 it is about 110% of the fastest car lap times. NASCAR needs to tighten up what it considers minimum speed.

Really? What if Shepherd was 80, 90 or 100? What if he had Alzheimer's? The car is the only deciding factor if somebody can race?

Actually, it's 107% in F1 and 105% in IndyCar. NASCAR claims to have a 115% rule, but I've never seen anybody blackflagged for being too slow. That would have been about 120 mph yesterday and I spent a lot of the race watching Shepherd's lap times on timing & scoring since the whole thing made me hot under the collar and he was definitely running about 118mph after he hit Logano. But, no black flag.

What if - Morgan was 80 and qualified for a race. Age is a factor but if you can still get it done what's the difference. I think NASCAR should have pulled Morgan off the track but they didn't and I'm pretty sure they are reviewing their policies today.

I see every point made here. Everyone in the field passed Morgan several times. Joey Logano was the only one that collected the 33.

That 33 would have trouble being competitive in Nationwide.
He races mostly in Nationwide, and you're right. But if it wasn't for lapped traffic the race yesterday wouldn't have been that great or the Nationwide either, some of the better passes were made in traffic.

I wasn't paying that much attention to either, they both were pretty much back markers at New Hampshire.

You must've missed the part of the race where Kez had to pass the 24 for the lead with a few to go.

And he woulda had a top 10/5 if he didnt gamble the gas mileage trying to beat the 2. I wouldn't call that a "back marker".

They did. Roger had no problem with it, because he saw it as a racing deal.

Shepard isn't the only driver that the front runners had to dodge all day

One of 42 drivers had an on-track incident with Morgan Shepherd. Doesn't sound like an epidemic to me. Joey got lippy in the post-crash interview because he felt like a dumbass and had nothing else to say.

Yes, Morgan Shepherd, 2014 Championship contender and hero to the mature folks. Watch out for the second coming of his career!

You are void of logic. ONE driver out of 42 didn't make it around the slower car of Morgan Shepherd. o_O
Yes, I apologize for all my previous comments. Morgan Shepherd, the amazing driver! A great driver, proving out there that old people can do whatever they put their minds to by securing an another incredible 40th place finish!

Never said he was an amazing driver. My comment was about the dumbass youngster that couldn't get past the old dude. (Get it now?)

Oh...and check your facts, Joey finished 40th. Shepherd finished 39th ;)

Yes, yes, message received.

I just don't understand the love Shepherd gets. Richard Petty and Darrell Waltrip slung around the track for ten years too long before deciding to call it quits. Shepherd hangs around 20 years too long, looks even worse than those two did at the end of their careers, and gets even more love? I don't get it. This is supposed to be the highest level of stock car racing in the world. Would a 72 year old be allowed in the Super Bowl or Olympics?

It was a one spot difference. Hardly a fundamental flaw in my point.

Morgan is the old 70+ year old dude running along several laps down at the end of the pack. The young, spry Cup genius decides that the corner on the outside is his best opportunity to get by the guy that's running 30mph slower. Guess what; Morgan didn't learn anything. Hopefully, Joey did.

Shepherd should have surrendered the inside. He was in 40th place at the time and 16 laps down.

The other rookie that finished third made about $60,000 more than Joey did. (and he didn't crash into Shepherd when he went by him...)
