Morgan Shepherd - Too old to be behind the wheel of a Cup car?

This ain't the super bowl or the olympics. It is motorsport. hundreds of tracks across the country race on Saturday night and it is run what you brung. I've watched thousands of races and there will always be backmarkers. Every race has them, if you are unfortunate to get tangled up with one they all have one thing in common, old, young whatever, they are slower than you are, so look out.

Last year you said that NASCAR had the highest level competition of any racing series in the world. Now, "this ain't the super bowl or olympics".

This is a NASCAR thread. Surrender doesn't happen here. You should know that.
Tell Mark Martin that. Kenny Wallace said Martin would always let guys with faster cars by and wouldn't get in your way when he was laps down.

I wasn't paying that much attention to either, they both were pretty much back markers at New Hampshire.

Um...this is about Joey, who was ONE of 42 drivers that couldn't find a way around a guy that was running WAY slower than anyone else on the track. Why didn't anyone else collect the 33 while trying to pass on the outside thru the corner? ONE guy couldn't pass the 33 cleanly and it wasn't Mark Martin.
What percentage of blame does Joey share for trying to pass a slower car in the wrong spot?

So you really think Speedbowl14 was lying when he said Shepherd got loose?

It must be fun just to pretend that any evidence contrary to your point doesn't exist.

this doesn't make any sense, I thought we were talking about a driver getting tangled with a backmarker. BTW top drivers make mistakes, as do backmarkers, happens all the time at all levels of competition. Watch a Tudor race sometime with four different classes running, happens almost every race.

SHEPHERD ADMITTED HE GOT LOOSE. ******* went tight around a loose car in the middle of the corner. Joey was WAY faster than the 33, why didn't he lift and wait until the straightaway to cleanly pass?
Why? Rookie.

why didn't he lift and wait until the straightaway to cleanly pass?
Because Joey was trying to win the race.

Imagine that, trying to win rather than just riding around in 40th, 18 mph off the pace, 16 laps down, collecting prize money.

How'd that strategy work out for him?
Pretty good until he got wrecked by a greedy geriatric backmarker making a mockery of the highest level of stock car racing by doing the least amount of work possible for $69,000.

I don't know. I thought it was a good race. And this thread existed 5 days before the race anyway.

Yes, but we are still talking about the most exciting thing in the race.......................... Morgan, Joey and the pass of the year

There were four of em that I posted that were backmarkers almost the whole race, Morgan was the lucky one that got hit. If it was one of the others nobody would care but a Joey fan. But the old guy..that's different, you need to be young and slow, not old n slow.

Winning the race isn't always about being the fastest guy out there. It's also about fuel and tire strategy. It's about being able to save your stuff, to pass where its safe, to make sure you're around at the end when it counts. IMO, Joey epically failed to execute a strategy that allowed him to be in contention for the win at the end.

I've gotten into pissing matches with ted about the start and parks and the ****** teams before. They bother me too. What bothers me more about Morgan is that people are actually defending him. I guess if Timmy Hill was 60+ people would feel differently about him.

I hate to say it but NASCAR should really cut the field to 40 or even less. I understand that having 43 cars on the track looks good, but how many teams actually show up to compete and how many are just there to put in minimal effort for a check?

But Morgan won't throw a water bottle at Tony and threaten to pull his hair.
Sorry... I mean yeah its funny.... but Tony was the hair puller... If someone came at me and I couldn't get to them because a bunch of people broke it up... and I had somethin in my hand.. I'd throw it too....

...but seriously.. Tony = hair puller

Morgan is the old 70+ year old dude running along several laps down at the end of the pack. The young, spry Cup genius decides that the corner on the outside is his best opportunity to get by the guy that's running 30mph slower. Guess what; Morgan didn't learn anything. Hopefully, Joey did.
I think this bothers you more than it bothered Joey lol... Why are you so into this? Its like Joey did something to you personally... relax... he cant hear you lol :XXROFL:

Dude on a short track, the top teams lap everybody but about 10 cars if they don't throw cautions, if they didn't have the lucky dogs and the backmarkers to pass at a track like New Hampshire and other smaller tracks the race would be down to about four or five cars.

Thank god for all those debris cautions then.

Well, you know the answer to that. Cup pays well. If you don't drive for HMS, JGR, RCR, MWR, RFR, CGR...chances are you're in it for a payday.

oh good we have been keeping busy waiting for you and your sparkle pony 22. Hell you have been thinking and driving for the 22 for over a year, Joey this and Joey that ad nauseum.

Trust me. we know how you'd react ;)

........... and how many times do you think Joey also made that clean pass on Morgan? Just like everyone else thats sooo much better..... but for some reason were unning behind Joey at the time.... Hmmmmm
