Who was the first driver to win consecutive Nascar Winston Cup titles and what year?

Over 10,000 people were at North Wilkesboro Speedway when it held its first race on May 5, 1947. Fonty Flock qualified on the pole, won his heat race, and won the feature after sitting out for 4 1/2 years with an injury. The event was sanctioned by the National Championship Stock Car Circuit, which was a forerunner to NASCAR

Who was the last driver to lap the field, and go on to win the race? Which year and track was it?

Close but no cigar answer. Kyle petty almost did that in 1990 in Rockingham. I was at that race. Geoff Bodine was the only other car on the lead lap. I will keep working on the right answer. LOL

There actually have been a few drivers who have did it. I'll give a part of the answer.

The last time it was done was in 1991. Which driver did it, and what track was it?

September 15, 1991 at Dover Downs International Speedway, Dover, DE
Winner Harry Gant

Because of the enormously high speeds at Daytona and Talladega, restrictor plates had to be used at those tracks to slow cars down in the early '90s. During the 2000 season, there was one other track that required restrictor plates. What was it?

I'm sure this is a repeat or to easy but I'm horrible at coming up with the questions. I like to answer/guess.

What new safety measure did NASCAR introduce in 1994?

Who became the first driver to win the pole for the Cup race on Friday, win the Busch series race on Saturday and win the Cup race on Sunday?

Don't know if it was the first, but I was there for the races in Charlotte (in 84 I believe) and Bobby Allison did it.

not according to my website. I didn't know Bobby Allison raced in the Busch Series?

tkj...Sure Bobby ran in the Busch, Late Model Srortsman ( which became Busch) and also Modifidies (Also a Modified Champion).

I don't know if Bobby was the first to do it, just my guess. You do ask some great questions though, as do many others.

5/26/84 Bobby Allison sat on the pole and won the Busch race at Charlotte.
5/27/84 Bobby Allison sat on the pole for the 600 and won the race at Charlotte. Now, maybe qualifying for the 600 wasn't on Fri....I don't know. When did "front row" Joe do it?

You may be right. I did some checking and found everything you are talking about except for the pole. I am sorry. Whoever did that trivia site where I found the question must have missed it also. Go ahead and ask a question if you want.

No, you are probably correct. I think I'm wrong about the poles. I apoligize for interupting.

Smokefan's turn.

I don't know. I can't even find where front row Joe won the race at Charlotte. I think someone messed up on the trivia site where I got the question. HELP SOMEONE

I found the answer to your question in an article from The Kansas City Star dated September 29, 2006.

Quote:
"In 2004, Nemechek pulled a NASCAR first when he won the Nextel Cup pole at Kansas Speedway on a Friday, won the Busch series race on Saturday and won the Nextel Cup race on Sunday, calling it "one of the best days of my life."

Yelk-
Regarding Bobby Allison, according to several websites I looked at, he won both of the races in May of 1984 at Charlotte but not from the pole. He started 8th in the Busch race and 16th in the Cup race.

Next Question:
What did Cale Yarborough do in his 1976 championship season that Tony Stewart also did in his 2002 championship season?

Thanks Smoke, you are correct about that.

As for your question, I'm gonna guess...race in the Indy500 the same year.

Thanks for clearing that up smoke. I was getting worried there.

No. Here is a clue; it wasn't something that either wanted to do.
