Nascar's Return to Nashville Speedway

Your preference is to add another three short track venues in the southeastern US in the interest of restoring NASCAR's tradition and roots. Yet your opinion of a viable operating historic landmark Southern short track that needs relatively small (in development terms) upgrades to host national NASCAR series races again is that it is a burdensome possession and more trouble than it is worth (white elephant) and that the best outcome is that it be demolished.

This level of incoherence will be hard to top.

If Richmond and Atlanta can be put back the way they were and Rockingham can get 2 dates and Darlington can get its second race back they can have 5 races at Nashville for all I care.

I’ve stated my preferences and reasons for Nascar not going to Nashville and they may be rubbish or may have merit. If you or others think it is a good idea to get a cup date for Nashville I’m ok with it. I seriously doubt it will happen but if it does it does.

BTW Nashville is not in the southeastern US!

Sounds likely and more realistic than than the formulated plans for Nashville. I would support a Rockingham revival too, as I like to see good race tracks prosper, and place them above my enthusiasm for industrial parks, strip malls, and tax collectors.

I'm leaning toward rubbish, as I asked for clarification on a couple key claims and received none. I'm picking up that you have a grudge against Nashville and a fringe alternate theory on basic geography and US history. Otherwise, it's all quite murky other than that racing-related misfortune brings you delight.

I grew up in the Midwest and now live in the Northwest. I will rely on the actual Southerners I know, and established elementary geography and history, rather than the leading alternate theories emerging from Ontario, Canada.

About the only Canadian authorities on the South I would pay heed to were The Band.

Definitely the south, might not seem like it in certain hipster neighborhoods though. I think we are alll aware that a revival of Nashville and the Rock will be good for the sport. I'm not in favor of tax payer money going to it either but my pro-historic short track bias makes me look the other way.

I spend several days in Nashville 3-4 times a year and with the influx of people it ain’t southern like it was 40 years ago.

IMO the citizens of Nashville should not so much as pay for a curb cut with any work done in and around the track.

Goalpost moving, and a familiar refrain heard from observers of any city that experiences substantial growth. Heard it 20 years ago about Charlotte. So Nashville was in the southeastern US 40 years ago? I don't think the tectonic plates have shifted that much in that period.

I'm glad you enjoy Nashville. Cool town. Lots of good changes have come with the recent growth, and surely some negative ones as well.

I don’t consider Nashville to be part of the southeast just like I don’t see the state of Florida being part of it either. Florida is definitely geographically southeast but it is about as southern as St. Cloud

You didn't say it wasn't southern, you said wasn't in the southeast. The first is a question of culture, the second of geography.
 
Time to get flammed but here goes: Hey Marcus @SMI.... This Nashville project gets messier by the day. Take the money you were going to use to remake Nashville and put it towards Wilkesboro. Theres no apartments, Soccer stadium or hipster residents to dodge because they moved next to a race track. Build it and they will come........

According to the article in the Tennesseean, the money Marcus was wanting to spend included $52 million of public bonds and $2 million cash from the city of Nashville. The mayor's public stance is that he will reject a deal using public money. I suspect Wilkesboro isn't able to contribute that kind of funding either.

I don't think the money from Nashville would be enough to rebuild NWilkes to 21st century standards. Even it SMI was interested in a track of those dimensions, it would probably build a new one closer to an urban area. Either way, there'd be the question of getting it on a schedule. Last time I checked, even Nashville didn't have a guaranteed date.

That damn unicorn is a no-talent hack who wouldn't have a ride if it wasn't for the family sponsoring him. He should get out and free up a seat for a deserving pegasus or griffin who worked his way up through the ranks.
 
I just don't see why they can't keep the MLS stadium plan, scrap the apartments/condos, and renovate the racetrack, doesn't seem that difficult to me but what do I know. I guess they want apartments that bad.
