New rules for the All-Star race

Stop this, please.
This thread is NOT ABOUT Daytona, Talladega, or short tracks or ANY OTHER race on the schedule.
This is about the package that is being tried at the All-Star Race, only.

This thread is about to go the way of the other thread if this war doesn't stop.
How can we not compare it to the other tracks?

I fail to see how we can have a proper discussion about this when we can't compare different tracks and the use of plates? No where in this thread was anyone insulted just questions brought to light.

Once NASCAR announced a restrictor plate would be used, I don't see how comparisons to other plate races could be avoided. But thanks for tolerating what's come so far. I won't touch this one again.

and you or I have never seen this package on a sprint car either
If the only changes in this package were aero, just the splitter, spoiler, and ducts, I'd be happy to give it a chance. It's that fourth change shown in the first post that causes experience to raise my hackles and bring a snarl to my fangs.

Personally I can't wait to see what happens at the All-Star Race. Something this different should be really good or really bad. I'm hoping for good. :D
Odd, but I feel the same way about the Roval (tm :D) race. I guess that too is based on experience. I like what I've seen of road course races, even bastardized layouts based on oval infields.

eh I am looking forward to and hoping to see three and four wide racing down the straights and in the turns instead of the check out single file racing that usually happens at Charlotte.

If a car has to lift in the corner , drafting actually matters more, i don't see how letting these cars go wide open on any track is a good thing?????
This wide open is slower then the alternative.

Okay, then how come this doesn't happen at California or Michigan? They don't run around in draft-dependent packs there.

I guess this particular conversation depends on how unhappy each individual is with racing on the 1.5'ers in the first place. I'm on record preferring there be fewer of them on the schedule, but to me the worst of them will always be preferable to a plate race. I find almost anything to be preferable to plate races, at least as they've been run in the 20+ years I've been following the sport. Well, maybe not the tandem era, but that's about the only exception. Otherwise, I'll take Chicago or Kansas over a plate race every time. Just me, I guess.
thought we were talking plate races here?

No I don't think so, a car being able to go wideopen around an entire track just defeats the purpose. All cars wide open, where is the driver challenge? Might as well have them on remote control.

who says they are going to be running wide open?

I think if they did pointy ears like Batman has that would be cool.

Thats your opinion. See? Subjective.

This package is going to have a little more bad air, compared to what they have now. A little more downforce, not a lot, but a little more. The plates are to keep someone that hits the setup right, from running away from everybody. I think that's what they have in mind, but will it turn out like they planned? I Think Jimmy will find the changes to his liking. Stay tuned.

It's right down KyBu's alley being the Xfinity under powered expert and all.

With the longest segment being 30 laps, will all the changes have the most effect in that segment? With the final segment being only ten laps, with this package can a guy starting 6th work his way to the front? How many times have we seen a guy on the front row get a great restart on the green with a handful of laps remaining and check out on the field? That's always an anti climactic end to any race. I ask these questions because I honestly don't know. Has anyone heard any thoughts from the drivers?

yeah for sure. A 1.3 second gap back to second was last years 10 lap shootout. Typical jump out in front and drive away. It's not going to happen this year

Make this a 50 lap race with this package, let's see what happens.
