1st 4 out - 5, 17, 21, 41

Ok, time to pay the piper. My apologies to the 17 and 21 teams. The 21 came on strong in the first round and didn't make many mistakes. The 17 got lucky and won some stage points at Dover. Congrats.

next four out;
1, 4, 11, 17
This was a tough decision, but these 4 teams haven't been doing as well as the others the last few races and momentum plays a big role in my opinion.
Of course Talladega always throws a wrench into things so anything could happen. The 17 has been fantastic at restritor plate races this year.
It's still hard to tell who is just points racing and who is giving it their all. So while I list the 4 and 11, they could have easily been just driving around and avoiding trouble.
That being said, the 4 has had a couple of issues the first round and almost got caught up in trouble. The 20 has been running very well but has had issues all year long. The 11 has been caught cheating or speeding and hasn't been as strong as of late and had mechanical issues at Dover.

Should be an interesting round of 12 and I suspect things are going to start picking up. Last year the races were pretty quiet until Talladega and then really broke open at Phoenix just before Homestead. Two years ago was the infamous Kenseth-Logano fued which started at Kansas.
Of note this year, Talladega is the 2nd race of this round with Kansas being the 3rd while last year they were flipped. Will this help NASCAR to reduce the number of teams just riding around in the back at Talladega like they did last year?

Next four...1, 17, 21, and hold on to your socks....and if NASCAR (along with all the political pull of Hendricks) allows fair play to exist without favoritism...the 24, will be out.

I guess that's why Jr missed the playoffs and Kahne went out first round? Not to mention Chase going out after Dega last year... How I understand it, Hendrick used to own NASCAR (why JJ is 7 time no doubt), evidently Toyota bought it from HMS, are you implying Hendrick bought it back?

Neither one of these had the consistent speed during the season to justify NASCAR sticking their head too far out. Kahne got in by pure luck, he even admitted it, his win at Indy was totally unexpected. Jr...crashed out way too much and was just not that good. How many cars did he blow up missing shifts at Pocono?

Gone already: 3, 5, 31, 41.
Next four out: 1, 4, 17, 24.

Advancing: Four Toyotas, 2, 21, 42, 48.

3 :), 5 :(, 17 :(, 21 :(

I was 2-4. No surprise whatsoever that Austin Dillon and Kasey Kahne got eliminated.
Ryan Newman, well, there is only minimal surprise in seeing him get eliminated. I mean, he seems to know how to pull the rabbit out of the hat sometimes, but RCR has not had the pace that they have needed this year.
Kurt Busch was the rotten surprise. It stinks that he is out of the playoffs. Just weeks ago, it looked like that team was coming alive. He suffered a lot of bad luck, I think.
Props to Ryan Blaney. He really came on stronger than expected. ^_^
Ricky got lucky. Man, he could still get even luckier, yet. Talladega is coming up. Just imagine how abnormal the Round of 8 would look if he pulls off the upset! :pbjtime:

However, the odds of that happening are slim to none, in my opinion. Three straight plate victories for Stenhouse? That is a long shot. #17 is my first choice to go out in the Round of 12.
The erratic Denny Hamlin, #11, gets a nod from me... I think he may find himself out after this round.
I'm going to with Ryan Blaney again. #21 may have just gotten through the first round, but he's going to have to do a little better to make it further. My wildcard choice is Kevin Harvick. #4 has been pretty hit-or-miss lately, and he's certainly not coming in with a full head of steam like last year.

Starting the next round of 3, when the music stops, which four drivers wont have a chair to sit in?

My picks
J Mac
Ricky
Ryan
Chase

Of course picking for this round is a crap shoot with Talladega next week.

I'll say the 1, 4, 21, and 24 are the next four out. I think Stenhouse wins Talladega and advances.

McMurray
Hamlin
Stenhouse
Blaney
Last year I said Talladega will be a lottery and it became boring as hell compared to other plate races.
Who was the last driver to win 3 plate races in one season?

Who was the last driver to win 3 plate races in one season?
I looked into it briefly, I'm not sure if anyone has done it. Plenty of drivers have won 2, some have swept Dega, some swept Daytona and some won one of each, but so far I haven't found anyone that has won 3. Richard Petty never even did it haha.

Just based on the law of averages, I will say Stenhouse will not win Talladega. Winning a plate race is so random, and he's not sneaking up on anybody anymore. It may effect how others do (or DON'T) help him.

Stenhouse GONE. no offense Ricky but do to events beyond my control, you have had way too much air time for a backmarker. On top of dismal driving, you get yourself a speeding penalty and I had to listen to all the fake drama crap that Jabba could come up with acting like you have a shot at the championship in the first place. Kenseth GONE, Hamlin GONE McMurray GONE

Chase has his work cut out for him. Sounded pretty mum on Martinsville next week, I had no clue he struggled in the test there last week. Had a great run in the spring but that will be hard to duplicate.

I think he has to win Texas or Phoenix to advance. Hard to see him moving on to Homestead IMO even though I predicted it.

Texas is his best chance, IMO. He pulled out of Charlotte with a 2nd place finish.

Kyle Busch will dominate Martinsville and MTJ will take Phoenix, IMO.

I got three out of 4 right last time
Hamlin GONE take more muscle relaxers or whatever you are taking Denny make it so. Speed do something. KDB GONE, you squeaked by. Truex GONE your luck runs out. Blaney? GONE

8 drivers out with 10 wins between them.

Winning matters because winless Chase Elliott is sitting in the top 5

The practical side of me says the 11, 21, 24, 48. I hope I'm wrong about the last three though.

Chase is points racing by being super consistent, I love it.

He is, but the problem with that is they implemented this entire system to avoid this.

That being said, it would be hard to argue Chase hasn't been a top 8 driver this year. Literally one of the most consistent drivers this year. The only thing missing is the win.

Wouldn’t it be great if he pointed his way to the championship without even winning a race? I’m cheering for that in all honesty.

78 looks like a champion to me. The proof will be in the pudding if Martin and Cole can figure out Homestead. Gonna be fun.
Yes, I agree

But then there is this and part of me wants to see NASCAR with egg on their face if you will that a driver that did not win this year, heck hasnt even got their first career points win winds up points racing their way to a Championship, no doubts NASCAR will make changes for 2018 if this were happen.

It'll take at least a couple top 5's with a good amount of stage points and some help from others to get it done. It does make me smile a bit that he's the only man standing without a win. It isn't like Newman a few yrs ago either, Chase has arguably been a top 5 or 6 driver this year, and without that crummy Summer stretch of bad luck he likely would've easily been in the top 5 in points heading into the Chase.

Not a fan of HMS but I think it would be great if a win-less driver should win the "Lottery Championship" Really would define the brainpower of Nascar management.

Final 4 for me would be: 78, 21, 18, 2

Chase has been so consistent since the “playoffs”started, he’s had a good year I’m perplexed as to why he hasn’t won a race this year but it is what it is. HMS are giving him bullet proof cars and the kid is bringing them home in the top 5.

I must be missing it with Blaney, his playoff finishes to this point are 11,9,23,8,18,3. When I look at that I just don't see a guy that's running well enough to overcome the lack of bonus points.

Hamlin right now, to me, is the super sleeper to win it all.
