Old Chase threads

I just don't see this as racing. Sure, all of these antics make for good TV, but it just doesn't do much for me in crowning a champion. I have NEVER been a fan of the chase. And I absolutely HATE that four drivers will go in to Homestead on equal footing. You may have a couple guys that won 4 or 5 this year, against a couple of guys with 1 or no wins. It is nonsense to me.
At least in the previous chase formats, there was a lot less of a chance of a driver falling ass-backwards into a championship just because they got lucky a few times.

When was the last time anyone heard "we had a great points day"?

I assume you are talking about Hamlin and Newman? How is being consistent being lucky? Also isn't that what you guys want? A championship the rewards consistency? I don't get it.

Not racing?

So what do u call 43 drivers trying to finish 500 miles 1st?

Winning and consistency don't always go hand in hand and when that happens, one wins out over the other, obviously.

Not sure I follow. Hamlin has been anything but consistent this season. Sure, he's slipped through the elimination cracks to this point, but he'd be high teens in points in any previous format. I actually wouldn't mind the guy winning the championship, but has Denny been the best driver in NASCAR this season? Not even close.

They quit rewarding the best driver of the season in 2003. Get with the program people! It's all about who is best in the Chase, under the rules of the Chase. Those eight drivers are still vying for the Championship. Sooner or later you'll figure it out.

you really think they will? more of an optimist than I am.:D

If you like this format, great. But if you don't, that's ok too. Dissenting opinions are allowed here. It ain't my cup of tea, but I know there are lots of people who are eating this stuff up. I don't think there's any program to get with, either you like it or you don't, simple as that.

I believe that there's a 3rd option, which is that you simply accept it for what it is. I know that's what I've done.

And that is also where I am at but there's no problem enjoying it at the same time. That was the reason behind this thread to begin with.

I don't think I'll ever love it, but I'd at least like to get to this point. Although I know that right about the time I do, Brian France will come out with something worse. ;)

I'll try to tone down the negativity in the meantime.

I didn't mean you specifically and should've chosen the word "one." :)

I know, but I probably do need to shut up about it. Constantly b*tching about the chase accomplishes nothing.

finally got ta stage 5 now ? acceptance.
that's good .

looks like we get "mini super bowl " at phoenix this weekend as icing on chase cake.
homestead race may be hard pressed ta top it ?

Yep, no sense being a stick in the mud.
Traitor. Guess I'm going it alone from here.

Nah, but seriously, I still don't like this Chase and probably never will, but I've found a reason to casually pay attention to it: Newman. He won't win it, but I've been subconsciously hoping that he will do so.

That's as close to acceptance as I'm gonna get.

Previous chase races at Phoenix havent been much, me thinks this one is gonna be special

Dont worry. We got a saying round here.

"Dont like the points format? Wait 5 mins. Itll change."

mg.......you -n- ya antichase crowd oughta stop all this obfuscation and just come on out and say it !

"we got it wrong ....'14 chase format has actually made racin better / more excitin this yr . "
no shame in that.

or are ya'll gonna wait and maybe try ta sneak in a no contest plea durin offseason ? :D

Love it or hate it, it don't matter. France etal are freaking out right now. "Win your in" the 2014 chase motto. Now they have 2 non winners on the verge of moving into the final four at Homestead. Oops, what the hell are they doing to me has to be going through Frances mind.
I love that two non race winners could ascend to the final four. I am like alot of others and just let the chase play out, it is here to stay and I figure there will be a major overhaul during the off season. The chase format probably won't change, but the points will be changed somehow to prevent non race winners to
move through the brackets. Point racing has been a game with drivers forever and monotone Matt and no neck Newman are masters of the game. Either of them win the cup, France etal are left holding the bag, with egg on their face.
Being an old NASCAR fan, since 1960 when my first race hooked me, I have seen many changes within the sport. The chase confused me at first and as it has progressed I have become completely baffled. I love the sport and will never turn my back on it, but will probably scratch my head until it is raw from trying to figure it all out.
The chase racing this year, in my opinion, has been top shelf and may the best non race winner, win.
