Old Chase threads

mg.......you -n- ya antichase crowd oughta stop all this obfuscation and just come on out and say it !

"we got it wrong ....'14 chase format has actually made racin better / more excitin this yr . "
no shame in that.

or are ya'll gonna wait and maybe try ta sneak in a no contest plea durin offseason ? :D
LOL. Beggars can't be choosers, hawg. Be glad that you even got that much out of me. ;)

I have no problem with win and you're in. No winning drivers were left out and those who accumulated the most points amongst non-winners made it.

If the rules ever change so that the driver with the most wins is the champ, so be it, but until then it's not a popularity contest. However, there is the MPD for those who care to vote but that doesn't win any races either.

I absolutely hate this format. If they want to award winning so much they should go with a simple format. For example offer more points for every win on the season. I'd love to see something like this...
1 - 200 points
2 - 100 points
3 - 90 points
4 - 80 points
5 - 70 points
6 - 50 points
7 - 40 points
8 - 30 points
9 - 20 points
10 - 10 points
Everyone else - 0 points. Come back next week and race better.

They would get exactly what they want, guys racing hard every week, fighting for wins and the best part is the champion would actually be the guy who was the best over the entire season. There would be plenty of tight races in the standings because guys will go weeks with getting no points and they will be fighting to finish higher the next week. Also just riding around and finish 9th and 10th would most likely not cut it because of the value of the points.

I'm too lazy to do it at the moment but at some point I will take the results from this year and see how it would turn out in this format.

Playoffs are garbage and having 4 guys racing in 1 final race to determine who wins, especially when guys Ryan Newman and Denny Hamlin who have done jack **** this year, and I like both drivers, can be considered the champion. It's ridiculous.

So, what are the current point standing under your format? Have you run the numbers? Never mind, I see you haven't.

Everybody comes up with a different format every week.
You guys realize you're constantly doing the same thing you accuse Nascar of, right? A little tweaking here, a tiny change there....
Every system every person here has come up with would isolate a portion of the fans.
I do like seeing the results under the different formats though, it's pretty cool sometimes.

Any idea looks great in your own head and you will think yourself a genius for the awesome system you worked up in 5 minutes.
Present it here on this board however, and you'll be disabused of that notion as it's dismantled and shown why it wouldn't be the silver bullet you thought.
Brian France didn't just come up with this stuff. Corporations have committees and multi year studies to back up their decisions.

It may not be perfect or even "good" to many of us but.... it just might work - for whatever it is they're trying to accomplish.

Here are the standings under my format and with 2 races to go you have the top 2 in a very tight race, with Gordon in 3rd with still a great chance to win. I didn't add in any points for poles or most laps lead. I might add something for that. Of course no points system is ever going to be perfect but I want something that rewards for winning and consistency. I don't want any gimmicks and I don't want a champion who really doesn't deserve it. I also want something that is easy for the masses of fans to follow so they know how many points get awarded based on a position. To me, if you don't finish in the top 10 you should be **** out of luck.

1 - Brad Keselowski 2120
2 - Joey Logano 2050
3 - Jeff Gordon 1970
4 -Dale Earnhardt Jr. 1720
5 - Jimmie Johnson 1650
6 - Kevin Harvick 1640
7 - Matt Kenseth 1250
8 - Kyle Busch 1090
9 - Kyle Larson 1000
10 - Denny Hamlin 970
11 - Carl Edwards 960
12 - Kurt Busch 770
13 - Ryan Newman 690
14 - Clint Bowyer 680
15 - Jamie McMurray 630

I'm all for reading different ideas on the point system because the current system that those idiots at NASCAR thought of is the biggest joke by far. I live in New York City and die hard NASCAR fans here are few and far between. A few of my friends know how much I like it and when they see the Chase playoff system on Sportscenter they ask me questions about it and comment on what a stupid system it is. To me, when people who aren't even fans of the sport think that something is wrong with how a championship is decided than to me that says something is clearly wrong.

I guess if we have the current system going forward, the only tweaks I'd like to see are the bonus points carrying past the first round, as well as the ability to keep earning bonus points through the chase. For example, if a driver wins 4 races in the first 26, they start the chase with 2,012 points. Then if they win one of the first three races of the chase, they start the 2nd round with 3,015. Only at Homestead would the bonus points go away. This may have a small effect on the tightness of the points, but would reward those wins a bit more and make a winless champion less likely.

sorry, doesn't compare to the way it is, not even close. If you want any support for that way, Either Jr or Gordon needs to be in the lead.:D

Im not even a Brad or Joey fan and I'd be happier with that system. I may not like either one of them but at least I can say ah well at least they deserved to be called champion.

In all seriousness, I couldn't ask for much more out of a points system. The six winningest drivers are all at the top with the four-race winners (Jr., Gordon, Johnson) in order of Top 5s, and 7th-11th are the guys who 0-2 wins in order of most combined Top 5s and Top 10s.

Not a bad system, but just an FYI, you could divide everything by 10 and accomplish the same thing.

The point system wasn't broken before The Chase.
TV ratings and fan attendance continue to decrease regardless of which silly Chase point is in place.
Fans are growing weary of Brian's constant meddling.
IMO, the majority of veteran NASCAR fans do not like The Chase.

I'm still confused as to why one point per position is found to be too confusing. I like it the way it is.

If a Driver that already has a win (2, 4, 11, 22, 24, 99) wins the championship at Homestead it will sound like a hurricane is hitting when Brian France finally exhales. Just my opinion.

I don't think it's that confusing, I just don't want to see guys who aren't in the top 10 get rewarded. If you don't reward them then they are going to be battling every week to get up and stay in the top ten and since there are so many competitive cars unlike formula 1 the standings would most likely be extremely closer than the current ones.

I'm one of those people that thinks ask of these drivers are doing what they can for the best run possible. That's what they're paid to do and that's their type of personality.

If Newman or Kenseth wins the cup without a win, Brians backside will make the same noise sucking wind.

those same nyc friends hated tha '08 super bowl champ i guess too ?
stupid nfl playoffs ! :D

Not quite the same, those Giants were still 10-6, that's not as bad as Hamlin or Newman winning the championship

but pats were unbeaten 16-0 ??
i guess nfl almost went under after that game . almost ruined them. ??
i guess giants got hardly any press week after . ??

how does a 10-6 team make it ta super bowl ? playoffs !

In football you aren't out there competing against every other team every single weekend and you don't even face every team during the season.

Glad somebody pays enough attention to stick n ball to compare how those sports have been "manufacturing drama" for years and years, before most of em even knew it.

All sports are basically and intrinsically entertainment for the benefit of the masses. Even the Olympics are entertainment.
The only difference between our modern "games" and the Roman games is we don't wear togas and vote to kill the losers.

It's NASCAR's game and rules. We just pay the ticket price.
