On Going - Songs You Like

The above video of Stevie Ray Vaughan had a great line from the old Bob Seger song Turn The Page in my mind the whole time: "...as the sweat pours out your body like the music that you play"

Alison Krauss & Vince Gill
(love the Dobro guitar)

That is a great version of that song. The dobro part is awesome. I have a nephew that used to play the dobro. I don't know if he still does or not. He got into actual devil worship several years ago and changed a lot of things in his life. He's now a lawyer who does almost exclusively liberal causes. Go figure.

Alison Krauss has one of the sweetest voices you will ever hear. Just about any time I can hear her is a good thing.

Man! What a great song, by two amazing artists. Joe Bonamassa is quite possibly the greatest guitarist alive today (and the guy in my avatar) and Beth Hart sings with so much feeling that those two joining up to do an album and tour together was just a phenomenal idea. Even if you aren't really a blues fan, I hope you can enjoy this as much as I do.

Good ole Centralia Illinois Band (Southern Illinois...closer to STL and Paducah than Chicago)...saw them at Cherokee Casino recently.

Interestingly, the only founding member is the guy on the keyboards (who wrote "Riding the Storm out"). The others came in soon though and they have been a solid unit for many years. The other founding member wanted to go all "political" and wrote "Golden Country"...which was a good song, but it caused a chasm in the band. The lead singer (who you will see) just wanted to be a rock-and-roller...it came down to a vote...and the political dude got his walking papers. The lead singer did come through and wrote "Keep on Loving You"...which was their 1st #1 Hit

But the main song they will be remembered for is:

...and...

Here's a blast from the past...we used to play this song when doing "Div-work" at the Navy Officer Training facility in Rhode Island. Me and my buddy were down towards the end of the hall and at the very end were the only two females in the class. One was unbelievably hot...but a lesbian....so we played this song just to mess with her.

Her roommate was one of those skinny smart gals...probably an Admiral now ;).

After going from song to song on youtube, I came across this song and I can't get enough of it! One of those 'forget the haters' type of song. To me, it's a one hit wonder. I searched some of their other songs and weren't to thrilled.

Very nice! It's a little redundant, but the chorus is kind of a mantra type of thing in a song like this so it makes sense in that context. I'd never heard of the band or this song either. Good song though. Thanks for posting!

I'm a Rock kind of guy, but I've also got a soft spot for the sound of violins! Not to add...Lindsey Stirling is adorable!

One of my favorite songs. My guitar buddies say it's notoriously hard to play.

This is currently one of my favorite bands. They've got a mix of heavy and soft songs. This is one of their more heavy and one of my favorites by them.

John Mayer is very cool. He gets a bad rap, but I like a lot of his stuff. He can be kind of a d-bag at times, but a lot of people can be, myself included. It doesn't mean he isn't a damn fine guitar player and a pretty good song writer and not a bad singer either.

Yeah, from time to time it definitely seems that stardom gets to his head, but he seems like a cool dude. I wish he'd get back to doing more blues.

I agree with that, of course. More blues is always a good thing in my book. I like how he mixes a blues feel into the other stuff he does though.

Here's a flashback that may mean nothing to many people in here, but I just love the acoustic work and the tight, pure vocals and just timeless harmonies.

Check these guys out inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.
I dig 'em.
This one's a favorite for sure.

They're about the only actually Rock-N-Roll artists inducted this year, too. I'm glad they finally got in. I haven't been a huge fan of theirs since I was like 8 years old or so, but I do like them and they have a huge following of absolute die hard long time fans. Several people I grew up with are included in that group of fans. One even took that fandom to his grave, but that's an entirely different story.

Their induction speech was quite memorable. Check it out on HBO if you get a chance.
It was nice to see the original four put aside their differences for one night and praise one another.
They wouldn't perform together this night, though. I guess that was too much to ask for.

First off, I couldn't find a clean version of this song, so apologies to our mods.
But, #1 song in the country right now and I like it.
Plus, we're bringing #88 back, right?

Some really great songs came out of WWII that live strong today. With WWII so much in the news because of the 70th anniversary of the Normandy landing, this song might bring a tear to your eye and a lump in your throat.

Was watching the BET Awards or something a while back when this song really touched me during a tribute to Luther Vandross.

Gonna light one up for you tonight, dad, like we always used to do.
Happy Father's Day to you all.

#1 song in the country right now? I guess that goes to show that I don't listen to main stream radio, because I have NEVER heard this song. And...I don't like it. :) Several years back, I was into the main stream stuff because it wasn't the same six songs played over and over again.

I'm only familiar with this song for mostly two reasons:
One, I have an 11 year old daughter who controls the remote in my truck when she's in it.
Two, Anna Kendrick used this song in a hilarious Saturday Night Live skit, so I curiously googled it.

It's not for everyone, obviously.
To each their own.
In case you didn't know, she recently had the top two songs on Billboard in her debut, a feat not achieved since the the Beatles.
We can argue all day what that says about today's music, but I enjoy the new stuff coming out in all genres.
