The only chance the 24 is gonna have to make the chase is the wildcard I believe, they gonna have to start winning and fast...

It doesn't matter how you get there, just get there. He'll get that win this season and reserve his spot in the Chase. He's been pretty strong only to have some of the worst luck going. Hopefully that'll change soon for him.

I'm just dumbfounded that jr is 2nd in points

Talk about race track attendence ...I was over to the "I hate Junior " meeting and there's like two homeless people there who just came for the free food . It's not the travel costs either , you can get there for free. I think it's the new point system.

Never did get the way the point system works.Seems like the last time they modified it--first place got you so many points ,second was one point less, third two points less and so on.Jr is ahead of Denny only having two more top ten finishes to Dennys two wins.JJ is in sixth place with the same stats as Jr.Tony is behind Harvick with his two wins and Harvick having only one more top ten thanTony. I know bonus points play into it --but still--Doesn't seem to add up! Someone enlighten me please!

I will try.

Yes bonus points are given to win and to lead.
But Junior has a better finishing average (8.0) Hamlins is (9.4) so Junior has accumulated at least 12 more points solely on his average finish. Hamlins two wins only net him 6 bonus points, so he is still behind Junior (works the same for the other cases too).

Aside from leader and the winners bonus, The point system rewards you more purely or evenly on netting better finishes than the competition.

There seems to a billion ideas on a good point system. Personally I would like to see a progressive system that rewards certain benchmarks like a top 10,5, and a podium finish. I don't think there is much difference between p30 and p43, but there is a big difference from p1 to p10. Yet the differential is about the same according to the system.

So if Junior finishes p42 and Hamlin finishes p43 Junior gained a point. If Junior finishes p2 and Hamlin p3, it still is only a one point difference (provided that their leader points are equal).

But in defense of NASCAR there is no perfect system or achievable concensus. Ask 100 people and you probably get at least a dozen different preferences.

NASCAR wanted a simple system, this one can easily be mastered. If your driver finishes 10 positions better than another guy, it is 10 more points.

I'm with you bee . The worst part is that after you learn the new system , they will change it again . There was absolutely nothing wrong with the old one . Fans gotta stop bitching.

Thanks guys! I'm totally enlightend now! ha-ha.
You're right though, probably never can be a perfect point system.

Ole Biff's hanging there but he best watch out for the Johnson fellow creeping up behind him.

I'm just glad they had a fast car and got a decent finish. They could have probably finished top 3 if things had played out right. As Jeff said on the scanner after the race, it was a good team building effort.

Lol, that's what I was thinking too. They showed the points yesterday after the race and I was like alright, up to 22nd....then I realized how bad it still looks. Brad is still in a wildcard spot, and there's some guys with one win ahead of him. I feel it's really gonna take at least 3 wins to get in the wildcard spot. Kasey has got a win now and I think he's good for at least one more before Richmond, maybe more. Brad can strike at anytime but he's not real consistent so I feel he's gonna take the wildcard spot again this year. I should really say the cars are not consistent cause Brad does drive the hell out of them every week.

IMO, Brad will be well within the top 10 before the chase. Penske had fuel pickup trouble while they worked on a way to get an advantage. It sure payed off after going 73 laps in his NW win.

Brad, the car and the team are solid. It's just a matter of not getting caught up in other people's messes.

See the 24 again went in the wrong direction. They should've went for it, they have nothing to lose being outside the top 20 with no wins. If they were up in points like Stewart or even JR I could go along with that call.

Hey look who's in second, only 10 points outta the lead :D

Somebody should pull up one of those Junior bashing threads from last year because I can't remember who it is on the forum who doesn't like Junior . Everyone seems to be a fan again.

That wild card race is going to be fun to watch with Kyle, Newman, Logano and KK. Could be even more interesting if Montoya clicks off a road course or Indianapolis win and/or Logano gets hot and clicks off another win or two.,

Menard is right in there too, if he can get a win or two, actually he might just make it into the top 10 on points.

All my previous trash talk about Menard aside, he's really matured as a racecar driver and come to his own. I'd like to see some new names like Menard, Logano, Truex, Ambrose or Almirola in the Chase.

And the way Almirola's running, he might actually be able to click off a win. I think Almirola's underrated as a driver and he's got a good team there. Mike Ford is way underrated as a crew chief.

And it would be really fun if some of these guys, like Keselowski, Logano and Kahne could mix it up for the championship with Edwards, Stewart, Hamlin, Harvick and Darth.

Joonyer is the only one who has finished every lap of every race and has the most top tens. That is what used to win championships, consistency.
Jr, Tony, Happy and I'd even be ok with Clint.

Was'nt me, I've been disappointed in him more than once butt I've liked the kid since the Myrtle Bch. days.

I thought it was a dumb move too...it looks even worse seeing as how pretty much everyone made it on fuel. The 24 team is just finding more and more ways to give away a decent finish every week...

Pretty soon, he'll be be behind the 51:p

Yeah, maybe without Kurt driving :p

I still am not a fan, consistency is great, but call me when he wins a couple....

I think Gordon is done. I am thinking he needs three wins in the next 12 races. Almost impossible for anyone.

Kasey Kahne will need a second win to get a wildcard.

I'm have pretty much written off the Chase. It's all about adding to the win total for me. They have these wicked fast cars but can't seem to finish.

According to Ricky Craven on Nascar Now this afternoon, Gordon still has a good chance of making the Chase on Points. I heard that and lost what little credibility I held for Craven. If Gordon can reel off some wins he might do it, but to get there on points....there are just too many drivers ahead of him.
