Phoenix Pre-race Race Thread

Kram Nitram on the Pole!! Congrats.

3 of the 4 HMS cars - plus Tony Stewart are 2, 3, 5, 6.

As the announceers were running down the starting order, DW says, "Joonyer's looking pretty good."
Dale Jr is starting in the 10th effing row.

C'mon, Darrell...

I am surprised that Kasey and Jeff were able to stay in the top 5 considering their early draw.

Well Jr is the franchise as they say. When he doesn't qualify well, it is the car, he always looks good until he goes into the first turn. DW likes Dale Jr. so do the majority of fans . Do you think somehow that any announcer is going to say he stinks? Not if he wants to keep his job.

I listdefinitelyto them for years when I drove my big truck over the road, I'll take Mike, DW/Larry Mac, Jeff, Dale Jarrett, Rusty, you name it, over that screaming Moody and Bagley cluster. Don't have any problem listening to Barney and the pit guys, but it is good not to have to take a couple aspirin for my headache after the race.

Moody does scream a bit compared to Barney. Barney definitely is serious but he has a low key style I grew to love. Probably my favorite racing voice ever. But for the record Moody didnt make the trip to Phoenix, someone else will be working his spot for this weekends race.

Yeah, I am probably a bit biased anyway. Listened to them for years when I was bouncing around all over the country. Pissed because I wasn't in my recliner watching the race at home. I apologize if I ruffled anybodies feathers. I even had a Sirus player that would record, so when I was spotting the trailer or inside getting my paperwork signed I could play it back. Definitely better than nothing. They weren't the screaming idiot. ;)

I enjoyed listening to Hall, Ned, and Dick Brooks when he was on the air with them. I am convinced that some of my speech patterns were influenced by them. After a countless number of Sundays Barneys voice sounds like family. The gold standard imo.

Don't know what part of the country you live in, but I am guessing the east, you have probably had that station for years to listen to. Here in the middle of the country, I never heard it until recently when I bought a Sirus unit. nothing on the radio but stick and ball sports.

Danica Danica Danica. I have never seen anybody saw on the wheel so much. Whenever she gets nervous it gets worse. My prediction is mid to backish of the pack. 18-25th, lap or two down.

Will be interested to see how well Danica does starting in the back. Bigger test then single file Daytona.

Well, she wont make a hard charge to the rear because she is already there. Plate races are mechanics races. The real racing starts this week. Danica will be lucky to break the top 20 imo with top 10 equipment.

I am fortunate to live in the upstate tricounty area of S.Carolina ( Sick Dog County, Freaky Dog County, and Greenville County). I know WESC was carrying the races going back to the 1971 Daytona 500. I remember my dad having one on the radio before that as well, but I couldnt name that event. It was probably a 1970 event. I would blast the family radio and ruin the sunday naps, so my dad bought me a portable radio with a little less volume. I carried it everywhere we went on the weekends. A lot of good memories.

Yeah her equipment is no excuse. If she really wants to be taken seriously as a top driver, she's gotta perform on these kind of tracks. The best drivers get the most out of their cars..

This new car sure isn't acting like everyone expected. It looked like the rear was planted and the front tires couldn't handle it. The car doesn't like the bottom of the track, that's for sure. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone set up for running higher, and that would be very strange to see at Phoenix.

good point. Most of the experts thought the new car would be breaking records right off the bat. whatever they did to Kenseth's car, they killed it. Logano said "didn't work", or something like that when he was in the middle of qualifying. They are scratching their heads I bet. Won't take them long to get it dialed in I bet.

Hope to make a few posts in the next couple days from race central.
I apologize in advance for any that may raise eyebrows.

This is why I mute the volume on the TV and then delay the DVR so the radio audio lines up with the video. I love listening to Moody et al call a race.
Gods of us all, why have I never thought of that for myself? You are my new hero, at least for this weekend.

How long do you have to pause to get them to match up?

My only issue is their interpretations of the length of a car. Sometimes when they describe cars as being only one or two car-lengths apart, I wonder if they mean haulers instead. :D

That should make it interesting when they get to Darlington. I guess they run around sideways on the wall itself.

Welcome to the forum man . I'm hoping that your another Bill Elliott fan and not an Elliott Sadler fan . I need some help around here with all of the Senior fans . I have to agree with you , a top twenty finish is hopefully in the cards for Danica this week . I think that would be fantastic for any rookie driver .Those 20th to 43rd place drivers are pretty damn good drivers with a ton more short track experience than she has.

That's why I never commented on it yet...I can't believe how many people say it's going to be a good car with out really knowing the car that well.

Okay, I know Sick Dog. Which one is Freaky Dog, asks the guy from Lexington?

Freaky Dog's locale is only known by the insiders. So take the main dirt road West out of Sick Dog. Shortly afterwards you will see two dogs getting busy (they meat every morning at 6:45). At that point put in a CD of ACDC doing shook me all night long, once the song finishes immediately (must do quickly) afterswards put in a CD of Frampton doing "do you feel like we do". When he starts playing the air pipe immediatly eject the disk, and start playing "CrossRoads" live by Lynard Skynard and when A.C. finishes his last solo get out the car.

Then send me a pm, and wait on the black cubed van to cone get you, they will escort you into Freaky Dog.

The poor girl hasn't adjusted to these cars yet. It must be incredibly hard to first unlearn almost everything you know about the feel of driving a race car just to be able to start learning how to drive one of these things.

It will be interesting to see who figures it out first, because they will eat up the field when they do. We may see some surprising teams outrunning the big boys. Furniture Row just may have a big day.

If they can't get the back to slide, Darlington could be a disaster for a lot of teams when those front ends start pointing toward that wall.

After Daytona the boys in the booth discussed Phoenix and how the spoiler would be much bigger than the one run at Daytona. I think they also said a new tire compound too. Just the spoiler wouldcreate handling problems.
