Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

For no reason whatsoever the 1977 Daytona 500, Cale Yarborough pit stop.

My little girl insisted on getting the #7 late last year and I had to sport it during the NNS Phoenix race.
I told her to get #10 because we could use that magnet in February. (or the next day).
We got the #7.

What # will she run for Turner Motorsports?

I've read a bunch of article on the move to Turner but not once did I see them mention what number she'll be driving. Jr Motrosports is only a two car operation and they won't be using the #7 so I'd guess that they'd give it up for her to run. There's no reason for them to retain it.

Makes sense.
Wonder who (if anyone) is using the #10 in the NNS this year?
Probably doesn't matter though since any # her team chooses will be a one time deal.

UPDATE 3: Great Clips Inc., the world's largest hair salon brand, has signed a primary sponsorship agreement for 28 races next season with JR Motorsports. The partnership brings Kasey Kahne and Brad Sweet to JR Motorsports, adding to a lineup that already includes Regan Smith, the series' most recent winner, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. The addition of Great Clips further establishes the JR Motorsports line-up for 2013, albeit with substantial changes from two months ago. First, it guarantees the company will field at least two entries in 28 of 33 Nationwide Series events. Smith is already committed to driving a full schedule, and Earnhardt Jr. will compete in select races in a third car. Additionally, car numbers have been reassigned to align with Kahne's branding in the Sprint Cup Series. Kahne and Sweet will split time in the #5 Chevrolet for 27 races. Smith will compete for a championship in the #7, and Earnhardt Jr. will carry his familiar #88 in a limited schedule that presently stands at four races. One of Earnhardt's races will be with Great Clips branding to fill out the 28-race sponsorship package. JR Motorsports General Manager Kelley Earnhardt Miller said the organization still isn't committing the #5 team to a full-season slate but continues to work at securing sponsorship to fill out the remaining six races. A race schedule for Kahne and Sweet in the #5 Great Clips Chevy is still to be determined. So, too, is Earnhardt Jr.'s complete Nationwide Series slate. To date his only announced races are Feb. 23 at Daytona International Speedway and March 9 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, both in the #88 TaxSlayer.com Chevy.(JR Motorsports)(1-2-2012)

Brain Keselowski plans to run Daytona 500: #92-Brian Keselowski, brother of 2012 Sprint Cup Champion Brad Keselowski, has moved his team to Huntersville, NC. His Brian Keselowski Motorsports team plans to attempt the Daytona 500 in the #92 Toyota, could run more races if sponsorship can be found and could switch to Ford. Keselowski's effort will be crew chiefed by his father Bob. Brian will also run some ARCA races.

uh-oh, now Brad has some serious competition for best driver in the family.

Brian Keselowski is a talentless wanker. As late as last year he had a fantasy story on the K automotive website about how Brad stole his chance to make it in NW by beating him out to drive the Germain truck. He just can't accept that nascar said he didn't have enough track experience and Brad was chosen to replace him. Even after Brad pushed him to a great finish at Daytona, he let his jealousy show. It's that level of jealousy that makes me believe that lame pit road spin and stall at Phoenix, which cost Brad a sure win, was intentional.

Pastrana on move to Roush: “I am very serious about making this move, running competitively and ultimately winning races in NASCAR."

I think I heard that sentence from him before. We'll see how it goes this time.

I think that phrase is implanted in every driver. Why state the obvious again and again? It starts sounding like a prayer.

I find it interesting that Mark will be driving in the Daytona 500 instead of Mikey.

Mark hates destructor plate racing and Mikey loves it. And Mikey will be driving the 55 in the other 3 plate races.
hmmm...

RFR announces Travis Pastrana will run No. 60 NNS Ford fulltime in 2013.

I hope that Travis does really well in N'wide! There is no doubt that his celebrity will bring more much-needed attention - and hopefully sponsorship dollars - to the series.

Ugh:rolleyes:

Something about that dude that I don't like.

He's an excitable boy who loves his mother and wants to succeed at whatever he does.
What's not to like?

I'm trying to decide which track(s) (besides MIS) I want to visit this year. I'm thinking it should be a short track. Martinsville, Richmond or Bristol? Spring or Fall?

A Saturday night race makes the most sense mainly because of the option to race on Sunday if there is bad weather. Richmond might be a good choice because of the abundance of quality hotels nearby and I'd like to check out Virginia Beach. But Bristol is hard to resist. And I think Aiden wants to go to the Bristol Night race pretty bad. But Martinsville is awesome as well. This is not an easy choice at all. Plus I have to deal with the fact that my damn wife doesn't want to do another race related road trip. I'd like to leave her at home this time because it would be cheaper and faster. (it's amazing how much a woman can slow things down).

Thoughts?

I thought Brian would get way more races in that car.

Why doesn't Mark just drive the whole season? He's great on road courses and short tracks.
Brian has a full-time N'wide ride in 2013 but I agree, FB. Quite an interesting choice.

I've been a season ticket holder to all three of these tracks at one time or another. I still am to Bristol and only attend the fall race at Martinsville.

I only camp at the races so I can't give you any info on hotels/motels. We camp as a family of four and have been taking the kids to the races since they were four and six.

Martinsville by far puts on the best race but has the least to do in the surrounding area. There are plenty of restaurants around the area though but as far as family entertainment, it's lacking. The second race is the one to go to. Weather can be a pretty big factor at either of their race dates. The first is too early in the year and is more weather dependent. It's usually still on the cool side. The second one has been pretty favorable over the years.

Richmond also puts on a good race and if I go back again it will only be for their fall event. More is on the line in that race with drivers trying to make the Chase. There's a big celebration on the front stretch after the event with the Chase drivers so get your pit passes for this one. This is more fun for the kids.

Bristol is by far the biggest event of the three. Lot's of restaurants around and plenty to do as a family. There are at least two caverns within 15 minutes of the track that are worth going to see. Driver appearances are all over the area, mostly for the fall. Also, you can take you own vehicle out on the track for laps on either of the two race weekends. The night race is the best event of the two.

If I'm going for the racing alone, I'd go to Martinsville. If I'm going for the event and the stuff to do, I'd go to Bristol first, Richmond second.

If you decide on either Bristol or the fall event @ Martinsville give me a shout. We'll be camping @ the track for those three events and have plenty of food/drink to make any NASCAR fan welcome.

Wanking requires talent? There are talented wankers?

Boy, and y'all thought Danica lucked into a quality ride?

I find it interesting that Mark will be driving in the Daytona 500 instead of Mikey.
That surprised me too when they announced their rotation. I find it interesting that Brian will drive at Kentucky instead of Mikey, who usually wants to take a turn in his home state.

I've been to all three multiple times.

If the non-racing family members have any interest in history, take them to Richmond. Besides being the capitol of the Confederacy, the area is loaded with antebellum plantations and historic mansions. Take the fall race if you can get it, with the deadline to make the Chase.

I agree with Matthew that M'ville puts on the best racing, although I suspect it's the farthest from you. With the smallest seating capacity of the three, the traffic getting out isn't as bad. There's a great little Natural History Museum in town and plenty to see and do in Greensboro, NC, about an hour to the south.

I'm one of the few who think the repaving a few years ago improved Bristol. I pay to see racing, not wrecking; green flag laps, not yellow ones. But I was in the minority. The races there definitely take longer than the other two (unless Jeffy gouges out some more pavement in M'ville). Schedule conflicts have kept me from it for a couple of years.

I don't know if it's a factor, but both Bristol and M'ville do an excellent job of providing for handicapped / disabled fans; I haven't been to Richmond since my father was turned into a cyborg (artificial hips). I don't know how old Aiden is, but the night races can make for an awfully long day for youngsters under 12 or so; another point in M'ville's advantage. Really, you can't go wrong with any of the three. Of course, you're always welcome down here in Darlington country :D

Obviously, you subscribe to the old school meaning of wanker. That being the case, don't let the talent part slow you down. ;)

I hear Apple's new smartphone is going to be called the iWanker and will be much easier to use with one hand when combined with an exciting new app designed to keep eyeglasses from sliding down the nose.

Will it work with Verizon? Will it have Gingerbread and Jelly beans? Is there a zipper app?

Excellent feed back regarding races to attend and I appreciate it very much. :)

I have much to consider. It's going to come down to budget and timing.

51st annual Rolex 24 at Daytona on Jan. 26-27.

I'm not sure what all Cup drivers are in the field this year but I did just read that Clint Bowyer is the fourth driver on Michael Waltrip's GT class team for this years running. I think it's pretty cool to see how our NASCAR drivers stack up against the regulars. Many have represented our sport well and have been very competitive behind the wheel.

I'd go with Charlie's thoughts on Richmond . Giving your wife the option of going to the race or a plantation tour should make her happy, happy, happy.

2013 Kyle Busch M&M'S NASCAR Wrap Time Lapse

It always amazes me how fast they can wrap a car or a hauler. In the old days we might have to drive 1500 miles out of the way between races to a company to get a car wrapped, but now they will come to the track or your shop and wrap a car in about 4 hours at a cost of around $6000.00. The real cool thing is that it only takes about 20 minutes to peel the wrap off when you get ready for a rewrap. I still miss the cool paint schemes, but I don't miss sanding all day to get a car ready for paint.

It is a bit sad that today a paint job is mearly wrapping a car with the sponsors billboard ad, with little time taken to make it look like a race car.
