Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

Yet another in a long line of examples where he only got there because of his name and has had everything handed to him.

Dale Jarrett's son signs to play baseball with Charlotte 49ers

Zach Jarrett, the son of former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Dale Jarrett, was one of eight baseball players signed by UNC Charlotte during the early commitment period for the 2014 season.

Jarrett, 17, played third base for the Hickory High (N.C.) Red Tornadoes for coach David Craft, and was a prep teammate of current 49er Tyler Barnette. He also was a participant in the State Games after an All-Northwestern Conference season and a second-round appearance in the state playoffs. He posted 15 RBI in 62 plate appearances with a .355 batting average. He was also rated as a national "high follow" by Perfect Game Crosschecker.

A two-sport star at Hickory, Jarrett was a member of the varsity basketball team which finished as the state runners-up in the 3A classification.

Congrats to him.

Perhaps a sign that the Mayan's were correct about the world ending tomorrow. Jeff Gluck of SBNation announced that he is moving over to USA Today as a NASCAR reporter for that organization.

Congrats to him.

I still have a couple of N'wide races on my DVR that I haven't seen. I figured that sometime this Winter, when I needed a fix, I would crank up the surround sound and pretend...

I've saved a few racing related specials. I have both of those MWR Behind the scenes shows and a special about the construction of "The Track of the Americas" where they ran the F1 race.

One thing that's different for me this offseason than in past years is that I still haven't really missed racing at all. Maybe because I played fantasy football for the first time in 5 years or maybe it's because I have been so busy. But I'm glad I haven't really missed racing because it's making the off season seem much shorter.

I'm out already. I burned my last K&N last weekend. Fantsay football has always struck me as too much work. I run a fantasy league for work during the season, so I enjoy the off time.

I must have been watching a different race cause Pee Wee dominated and won going away!

And they said she'd never win, well bugger me!
I appreciate your kind and generous offer, but I believe I'd rather ride shotgun on a Daytona jet dryer. Nothing personal, you understand; I'm sure you are a considerate and thoughtful buggeree.

In other words, EEWWWWWWWWW!

WHOAH!! Spence, I know we are allies but not that FIRKEN friendly!!
I think our respectful nations might have different terminology in this case.

The Dale Jr. Foundation (TDJF) announced the successful conclusion to its year-long fundraising efforts, which raised more than $280,000 to benefit non-profit organizations and charities on a national scale. TDJF utilized a trio of major initiatives to raise the funds, including the "Driven to Give" event, the "Win Dale Jr.'s Ride" raffle and ride-along experiences with Earnhardt Jr. "It was another great year," said Earnhardt Jr. "The people who work for TDJF are some of the hardest-working people in my entire company, and I want to thank them first and foremost. I also want to thank anyone who contributed to the raising of funds this year, whether it was through in-kind donations, purchasing raffle tickets, or bidding on auction items. All of it contributed to helping us achieve our goals." More info at thedalejrfoundation.org.(Dale Jr. Foundation)(12-25-2012)

NBC expected to make push for NASCAR rights:

The shift to a less passive audience that would rather interrelate with a race telecast than just watch comes as NASCAR negotiates its next television contract. The current deal expires after the 2014 season and by the time '15 rolls around the TV landscape could look very different. FOX has already renewed its agreement through 2022 to the tune of $300 million per year, or $2.4 billion over the eight years. That's a significant bump up from the $220 million Fox is currently paying for a package of races that includes the Daytona 500. Despite a drop in ratings, an increase is also expected from other television entities for the remaining components of the contract, which include 23 other Sprint Cup races, ten inside the Chase, and the entire Nationwide Series schedule. Incumbents TNT and ABC/ESPN are expected to again jump back into negotiations but a wild card has come to the table in the form of NBC. Desperate for quality and popular live sports programming for its NBC Sports Channel, the Peacock Network is expected to make a substantial play for a big piece of the NASCAR pie. But while the dollars may turn out to be greater in the NBC proposal, at this point the network could not match the exposure and publicity NASCAR receives from the "World Wide Leader" in sports. As part of the mighty ESPN machine, NASCAR enjoys a hefty amount of promotion on not just auto racing-related programming but a wide range of content across a variety of television, radio and online platforms.

I expect the France family will grab the cash.

This has nothing to do with anything I just had to share it.
