Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

Gotta go with uncle harv...but they can both wheel a car and both have competitive spirits.

NASCAR is "evaluating" the souvenir row at races.

NASCAR fans call it souvenir row, and for the last three decades, they have gone there to browse for hats and T-shirts at enormous truck rigs carrying their favorite driver’s merchandise.

But that tradition may become a thing of the past. NASCAR is in the early phases of re-evaluating its trackside merchandise program, and it is looking to make a change. The company two weeks ago sent a request for proposal to a dozen companies asking them to submit plans for how the sport could change the way it sells merchandise at races.

At a minimum, NASCAR is considering reducing the number of truck rigs along souvenir row, and possibly eliminating them altogether, in order to replace them with a more traditional retail concept like the tented stores set up at the entrance to PGA Tour events.

I can see the convenience of one "superstore" at an event, but in the small handful of races I've attended I've enjoyed the souvenir row atmosphere. And there's little doubt in my mind that moving their merchandise indoors would lead to an increase in prices across the board. Because fans aren't spending enough money already when they go to a race, obviously.

Of what they are doing isn't working they should be considering alternatives. Good on them for continuing to look for ways to keep the show going.

I love "souvenir row".. Bitchin trucks and trailers loaded with NASCAR merch. How can you go wrong?!

I imagine the change maybe because some teams just don't get the business others do, and they want to provide a more "modern" race day experience? I dunno.

I posted this on the Joey thread also. Jay jokes around with Joey and there is as much or more technical info than Larry Mac and Hammond's blabbing with the cut away car and the fake computer thingy. Leno has some things to say about Earnhardt Sr. that are interesting.
