Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

SONOMA, CALIF.
NASCAR is closing in on approving the 2013 Sprint Cup cars.
The sanctioning body could sign off on the new models as early as next week.
NASCAR has a two-day wind tunnel test scheduled at AeroDyn in Mooresville, N.C., for July 2 and 3. All four manufacturers will put their body panels over a uniform chassis provided by NASCAR. Each of the manufacturers — Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge and Toyota — will be expected to hit the established target numbers for drag and downforce with their cars.
“Hopefully, when we go there we’ll be able to complete the (development) process and then the manufacturers can start building parts and teams can start building cars for 2013,” said NASCAR template manager Billy Berkheimer.
Pat Suhy, General Motors Racing NASCAR group manager, says the tooling process for the sheet metal will take about six weeks to complete. Teams are already working on the green area of the car or the area over the ****pit.
“It’s been a good process,” Suhy said of the new-car project. “It would have been better if it had started three months earlier for everyone involved.
“I can’t wait until we can show the world the uncamouflaged version of our car.”
Suhy added that the new cars will all participate in an upcoming Goodyear tire test in August.
Going forward, only the new cars will be used during testing.
“NASCAR wanted to make sure that no one had an advantage with the 2013 car,” said Suhy.

This is the part that scares me. The 'target numbers'. I can understand if the numbers are based on safety related issues but if it is on parity then we will be heading down a road that we took long ago in this sport. I'm afraid that all of the cars will eventually have the be bent and shaped into a single uniform standard once again. I've really been looking forward to see these new individual body styles hit the track in 2013. I hope that is allowed to be the case.

Yep. This is nascar taking the easy way out again. They should mandate a very wide aero profile, then wind tunnel any and all models the manufacturers can sell enough of in NA. Then even the aero out by specifying different splitters and spoilers for each model. If that's not enough, add some aero drag bolt-ons to the roof and sides to keep things close. Also, take out the rear window so they can get air on the trailing cars and virtually eliminate the dreaded aero push.

I always assumed that the drag on the new cars would be matched somehow . Surely noone wants to go to Daytona with one manufacturer 25mph faster than everyone else .

Holy hooly, finally an intelligent, well thought out, perfect solution. Congratulations.

Well, it sure isn't perfect, but it's more like NASCAR did things before they arrived at the lazy on size fits all body template. How hard would it be to use a laser assembly to check cars against a digital template? Establish a digital template for each model, and we can see stock looking cars with personality racing again. This uniform, aero dependant CoT ripped the heart out of NASCAR. Guys won't even rub anymore because any little dent ruins their precious aero. So they race like pussies and cry whenever someone touches their car.

How retarded are the people running NASCAR? How dumb is it to call your product "full contact racing", then do NOTHING about tires blowing from the slightest contact with the sharp side pipes sticking out an inch on the right side of the car? IT's the easiest Freaking thing to fix, but they do nothing.

Sorry to report that the Fender has had a coronary . Best wishes for a speedy recovery Fender . We'll get your picks in for ya.

I had always thought that Steve Wallace was taller than Brendon Gaughan. Hmm, guess not.

Have you been asleep? Matt is out of RFR in 2013 and probably going to JGR.

Eff You. I get all of that! Stop being such an antagonist, FB! JEEZ!
I just am questioning all of the "Dumb Guy / Toyota" sh!t.

BTW, PROBABLY and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee at MickyDees...

For a minute I thought your were firing on all 8 today but I think you misunderstood.

That happens when all you have to post is WTF???

Who could have imagined that robbybee was shocked and confused by the Kyle and Kurt comments. And who knew he was so sensative?

Harvick's scheme kicking off 4th of July week. Pretty freaking awesome, I know he ran it at Charlotte and Michigan, but it is easily the best scheme of the year.

That's what he does. I get it. He enjoys stirring the pot. I do the same thing when I am bored.

I do a little work, and everyone goes to take a nap. Now there's nobody to play with. waits for first suggestion to play with myself.....

They have some decent video from there once and a while and yes, they are always turned into a little infomercial towards the end but hopefully you stayed tuned long enough to watch the bloopers.

From the Twttiers:

Keselowski says the new sway bar rule will affect half the field and could be a major game-changer in #NASCAR.

Keselowski: "Those cars that were running those devices will slow down quite a bit." (FYI: Dale Jr. was one of the cars using that concept.)
