Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

Try as you might, justification for NASCAR's Chase System is futile at best. It's done nothing but diminish the meaning of a NASCAR Champion in this fan's eye's. It's proven to be a failed project from the beginning prompting almost as many changes in format as its number of years of its existence. The only thing that has happened as a result of its implementation is the alienation of a once rampant fan-base while largely failing to attract the new NASCAR fan.

This disgusting playoff format is why I'm boycotting the season finale again this year.

Two that came in together finish together next week. It’s been fun. Way to go out Kenseth!

And he’s still got some left after today’s race, I bet he could race 2 or so more years. Jr is just done and happy to get to the finish line it looks like. Those two had such wonderful careers pretty cool they came in together and are leaving together. Their Busch Series battles were awesome, the 3 AC Delco Chevy vs 17 DeWalt Chevy

Goodyear "very close" to announcing new deal with NASCAR

The Akron, Ohio-based manufacturer has been involved in the sport since 1954. For the last two decades, Goodyear has been the exclusive tire supplier for NASCAR’s top three series.

“We are very close to being able to make an announcement,” said Stu Grant, Goodyear’s general manager of worldwide racing. “Hopefully, soon. Hopefully, very soon. Considering that we’ve tested for 2018 and we’re in the middle of making tires for Daytona, we anticipate being around next year.”

Goodyear Racing last signed a five-year extension in 2011 that is set to expire at the end of this year. Grant, a 45-year veteran in the NASCAR garage, has been thrilled with the action on the track in 2017.

“I’ve seen a lot of racing, but I believe in 2017, the on-track racing has been some of the best I’ve ever seen,” Grant said. “I like the idea of the lower downforce and how it has helped the car. I know the drivers want the cars to be easier to drive, but the lower downforce makes the cars harder to drive, and I think that’s a good thing. It gives you the comers and goers. If your car is a little bit off, you’re not going to be able to run up front like you have before.

For the first time at Phoenix International Raceway, we were checked with metal detectors and our bags were carefully checked. I was quite surprised at the increase in security. Not complaining about it in any way ..... just a mention

Just the Kyle Busch fans?????? Or everyone?

Nah .. they were getting everybody .... my pack of smokes even set off the detector ... as well as my steel toe boots. It was quite a change .... it used to be that you just walked right in and at most just held a bag open for them to see.
I think its a great idea though . considering all the stuff that has been happening

I was just kiddin' you a little....... I agree totally....... a small bit of inconvienience is a small price to pay for a safe environment..... It's a shame it has come to this.

It is rather sad but to be quite honest it did make me feel a bit more safe .... able to let the guard down a notch or two. I am curious about the other tracks security now

I cant believe it, the final race of the season, I mean , we all knew it was gonna come one day, but can you really prepare yourself for it? I mean, it felt like just 10 months ago it was Speedweeks 2017 , and here we are getting ready to crown our lottery winner.

I remember the last time I went, they asked you to open your bag and they did a real quick sneaky peaky and that was it.

Yep ... that's all they used to do and to be honest, anyone could have brought in a gun or worse. I always felt like a sitting duck there .. but still had fun anyway

Bingo, if you wanted to get a gun in, it was very easy , I am very happy that PIR as stepped up the security .

I was talking to my girlfriend about this yesterday (we were both disappointed after Sunday). The letdown for the end of NASCAR season is so much greater than any other league for me. You get so wrapped up in it for basically an entire year, the playoffs get you on edge, and then poof - it's over. Thankfully Daytona comes a week earlier this year.

I remember having the same kind of discussion/feeling with my wife what now seems like ages ago. Anymore, once we hit the Chase section of the season, my interest drops to the point that I'm ready to see the season end. Like you though, I can't wait for Daytona. I know that probably doesn't make much sense to fans of the current system but it may to others.

I was watching Phoenix with my girlfriend and she didn’t understand the points system, playoffs, and stages. I tried explaining it but it proved frustrating after 3 tries, this is someone who’s been to 4 or 5 races with me, she understood the Chase but is completely lost on stages and points at the end of each stages as well as the Playoff Grid. I gave up after “how can it be a playoff when the eliminated cars are still on the track racing guys who are still eligible for a championship?” I excused myself to get more nachos.

It's because 75% of the fan base have their drivers locked out of the big finale.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

They need to pick better drivers. ;)

All kidding aside, the same thing happens in football and baseball.

STICK AND BALL ALERT

Not exactly. In other sports, teams not eligible for the championship aren't out there still trying to improve their final standings and affecting the championship competitors.

Joey is going to be on Fast and Loud next week. Gas Monkey is building Kurt Busch a $ 200,000 +Pantera to race against whatever Joey has. Kurt had some of his Nascar team build part of it along with the Gas Monkeys.Joey's car is bad ass. I'm guessing it is a modernized Shelby Daytona Cobra. I think Kurt's car will be faster, they are sticking a Coyote motor in his.
