Seems like quite a lot of people involved. I should hope most are spectators with opinions.

Anyone hear Jimmie's interview about the new plate package? Cars will be going about 20-25 mph faster. Guess say goodbye to pack racing and cars and parts could end up in the stands.

I do not understand the need for the cars to go faster, the racing is no better and IMO
the only thing that matters is the gas and brake pedal.

Sounded kinda outrageous to me too, but I'm not really in a position to disagree with Jimmie Johnson or proprietary HMS information...it's an intriguing prospect to say the least, though.

If that's the case (215 mph), the racing will be worse, lot's worse, and a heap more dangerous for everyone.

It's not the case, Nascar has been regulating speeds for a really long time. They will be whipping out the smaller plates I believe if that happens. That is record speeds before the plates went on. 210 is the record.

212.809-Winston 500-1987 Bill Elliot. The entire feild qualified over 200 mph. That's the race Bobby Allison took out some of the catch fence right at the flag stand, which led to restrictor plates. Been a pile of huge crashes ever since.

that is at Dega, 210 and some change at Daytona

Right, going by what is listed for the 2018 plate package, I am not seeing anything that stands out that would increase the speed that much over the 2017 plate package, but there could some things not listed, and of course I am not in the position to question the 7 pack.

This. They'll pull out those plates with 1/4" holes, and only two openings instead of four.

I'll admit I overlooked this back when the rules initially came out. He made it sound like the rule change itself will make the cars that much faster and then other safety enhancements will keep them on the ground, but I wonder if he was meaning to talk about the liftoff speed increasing.

New for superspeedways (Daytona and Talladega) next season will be the elimination of the current ride height rule, a move that should provide safety and perhaps competition benefits.

Tests conducted in the wind tunnel and on the track have verified what NASCAR officials were looking for prior to making the ride height move.

“In doing so we make a significant advancement in liftoff speed,” Stefanyshyn said. “Somewhere in the order of 30 mph; very, very significant.

“As we do that — we’ve had superspeedway specific shock absorbers and springs in the rear of the car. We can now do away with those and just use what we’ve got for the other tracks. It kind of brings all the packages together.”

4. “Matched” by team tire specialists according to date of manufacture and individual who made them and by the spring rate of the tire. All of that information is encoded on the sticker.

So if I'm understanding this, what's increased is the minimum speed to get a car off the ground?

Yeah that could be what JJ is talking about. Blowovers at 225 instead of top speed of 225. If so, that's great as there is no way with plates the cars will ever get that fast.

Its very possible he could be meaning the lift off speed has increased.

Just got my vacation time approved for Monday, March 26th. Which means I have the green light to buy tix for the wife and I to go to the spring Cup race at Martinsville! It'll be my first time there :D
No better race on the schedule IMO. Did they throw in pre-race pit passes? You would love that experience there. Have a blast. You're gonna luv it.
