Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

Congrats on the baby!! How long til she's a Joey Logano fan? ;) :D
I used to play audio of his wins through headphones pressed to her mother's stomach while she was in utero :D People say to do that with Mozart but.. priorities lol
SB22 hasn't noticed yet, but the kid has a birthmark on the bottom of her right foot that's shaped like a 'Bowtie'. ;)
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Why wouldn't it be the highest finishing rookie is ROTY? I mean... If they beat the rest.. doesn't that mean they had the better year? Kinda simple.

Are they changing the nose on the Camry a lil this year? I thought I heard they was on NASCAR radio .. anyone heard this ?

Agreed, but that wasn't the system used in the past. I recall only vague details, but there was a separate rookie points plan. Only a fixed number of races were counted; the lowest finishes were thrown out. And there was a committee vote involved, so not just points were involved. It made Chase resets look like counting on your fingers.

I thought they changed it for last year and it was only done after a long Nascar process. Oh yeah I forgot, special privileges.
Couldn't tell you.. I'm just hoping the Mustang comes to cup soon. Ford is now the only manufacturer that uses a different model in the Cup and Xfinity series'.

Damn I’m glad they making some changes lol.. got to keep up with the Chevys

I think you misread that.. I'm saying that Ford is the only manufacturer NOT making changes and that I hope they will
No read it perfectly fine.. I asked was Camry making changes to nose.. you said yes, I replied I’m glad to are.. we have to keep up with chevys

I think that is correct...... Brian sold off his share........ He's pretty much a figurehead...... Lesa and Jim let him take the heat because he fits the role of the village idiot......
Said he wants a raise or he isn't shaking any hands at all next year that the ceremony.

For now, I am hoping Toyota will swap the Camry for the Supra, at least in one of the series. It would make sense and would fit in with the Camaro and Mustang.

Right, he is just a talking head/figure head, he has no real power is my complete understanding .

I wanna see the Mustang come to cup because I feel like the shape of the nose of the Camry and (now the) Camaro in cup has to give them a bit of an aero advantage. There's no way that the scoops on the side of the Camry nose weren't beneficial and now the Camaro should have a similar effect while the Fusion is just rounded at the sides.

I could be wrong, I'm no rocket scientist but I just don't see how that shape wouldn't add more down force to the front of the car.

I don't quite get the hatred among many fans about the Daytona Day marketing ploy, but that's because I abhor plate racing and don't care about the 500 anyway (I don't enjoy saying that, but it's truth. I'm waiting for the actual season to start at Atlanta). Nielsen states that 49% of last year's audience, which was 11.9 million according to the final ratings, were "casual or non-fans", and Fox claims Daytona Day speaks to them.

Agree. Fox (and NBC) are responsible for the TV ratings of their NASCAR broadcasts.

Given the amounts each of them pay for the product, they can promote those broadcasts in whatever manner and to whomever they choose.

Which I could care less about. Just get rid of the Waltrips. Now.

... I don't quite get the hatred among many fans about the Daytona Day marketing ploy, ...
Personally, I dislike it because it de-emphasizes the racing and the race itself and tries to make an 'event' out of it. I get that they're trying to appealing to casual fans. But since I've never been one to attend something just because it's an 'event', I don't get why anyone would. That approach doesn't work on me with the Olympics, the Kentucky Derby, or any other sports competition that's marketed to people who otherwise just don't give a crap about the sport itself.

Just me.

That's understandable. If what Fox and Nielsen are saying is accurate, a tick under half of the viewers for the 500 are not devoted NASCAR fans. That implies that there is a shrinking base of core fans, and they are tasked with continuing to draw marquee event numbers by reaching casuals. It's not surprising that they are emulating the Super Bowl party model to do this. That is the king of events where by definition 70-80% of viewers are not hardcore fans.

Does this approach help grow interest in the rest of the season? Probably not. I'm not even sure that's possible, given how different racing at Daytona and Talladega looks on TV compared to the rest of the schedule.

Fox reported around 25 million popped in and out during last year's Daytona so half is about right. Hard core watcher numbers were a little better than 2016. So they are trying it again. :idunno: I think most of the FOX and NBC brass don't know dip about racing or how to promote the sport. Daytona day won an Emmy, shows what little those people know. It doesn't mention Nascar or even Daytona 500 in the piece, but it probably hits all of the marks the gatekeepers think are important for certain age groups. Hell if I know, whoopie and who cares, Drop the flag.

No surprise that fans didnt like it, they/we are not the targeted demo for Daytona Day, its for the casuals that tune it because its an "event"

I think at the start of the 2001 new TV contract with FOX/NBC there was a clue to be had about racing, but a lot of the key people have moved on that might of had a clue, and times have changed , so I am inclined to agree with you. Or maybe I have no clue and I am just running up my post count, it.....could go either way:idunno:

As gnomesayin noted, that may boost the D500 TV audience but it's not likely to have any effect on the rest of the season.
Maybe they could have big pot parties at each race track and throw a race in as part of the entertainment.
After all Winston did great with their smoking promotions. Of course beer was always allowed in those days with no limit other than what you could carry.
