Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

Pennzoil leaving Penske? No way. They would loose $200 million worth of business overnight, and Roger would give it back to Mobil.

I see this Penske/Roush/Fo*d deal going over like a lead balloon. I don't see Penske losing the sponsorship, and I damn sure don't see Brad and Carl on the same team. One would have to give for this to happen.

On nascar live Danielle Trotta looks like she overdid the cheek botox quite a bit, looks weird.

Anything interesting happening in your campground? Any chopper pilots wandering around?
That's a bit much, don't ya think? The guy was killed. I don't see much to joke about when it comes to that.

As far as the camping goes, it's great. We've got some new friends now and a good time is being had by all.

How do they know he's dead, did they find him?

Roger Penske said @JoeyLogano is a candidate for the 22. Didn't rule out 3 cars for 2013. Penske also said he may have a [few?] rabbit in the hat for the 22, but from what I hear Logano is the frontrunner.

There is no good side but at least he had dropped the passengers off.

A recap of our Bristol week.

My daughter and I left for Bristol the Saturday before the race to spend the week down there doing some sight seeing. We got down there that Saturday evening and stayed in the BMS staging area until our campground opened up Tuesday morning. There's a lot to do in Bristol and the surrounding area. Driving past the speedway I had my doubts that there was going to be a huge crowd there for the races. Normally, there would be many more rv's there than there was this time a week before the race. While our campground ended up being at about 90% capacity, many weren't. It certainly isn't like it used to be down there.

On Wednesday my wife, son & his girlfriend joined us just in time to head over to the Modified and Truck races. We went over as a large group from our campground and got to our seats just in time for the Modified race. We don't buy our Truck tickets until the day of the race just because you never know ahead of time about the weather and besides it's never an issue getting a ticket. Tickets for the Truck race are all general admission so you can sit anywhere that they have the sections open. We always choose to sit at the start/finish line for this race just to be closer to the action. That we were as half the field crashed in front of us in the opening laps of the Modified race. Those that like the Bristol wrecks were already given their moneys worth. Most probably watched the race so you know how it turned out.

Thursday morning we went to the track to take part in the Track Laps for Kids program. You get to take your personal vehicle on the track to turn laps behind the pace car. It's a great time. They take all of the cars that are participating into the track through the gate in turn 3 and then have you park on pit road. There is a short drivers meeting with Buck, a Tennessee State Trooper, who drives the pace car to go over the rules. As the laps progress they continue to drive faster and faster. This time they did it five cars at a time. We were the fifth in line. This allowed me to lay back a little and get more speed going into the turns but at that point but then I'd catch the field and have to slow down again. Some guy driving a truck two positions in front of me seemed to be too intimidated by the banking and kept slowing down in the turns. We took our truck in there for the Spring version of this so I know how he felt. There is a huge difference I guess because of the height I guess. A car is the way to go. I tried to run the high line against the wall to work in the groove and after Saturday night, it looked like it worked. :D

The weather was great down there until Friday afternoon. A storm moved in from the east and hit rather quickly. It caught everyone by surprise as they weren't reporting anything on the local weather reports. I was in the middle of grilling a prerace dinner at the time and continued to cook in the rain. It was like the rain scene from Caddyshack only with a grill and spatula instead of a green and putter. I was in the middle of cooking my best steak and potatoes ever and refused to give up. That was until the local police started riding through the campground advising us all to move indoors as high winds, hail, & lightning were moving into the area. From the safety of our aluminum framed fiberglass RV we rode out the storm eating steak and potatoes. Our only loss was a 22' flag pole and some little wooden clothes drying rack, both easily replaceable. Many others lost awnings and had other minor storm damage but listening to the scanner I didn't hear of anyone that was injured.

Friday night I gave up my seats to my son & his girlfriend and we spent the night watching the race back at the campground sitting around the fire having a great time.

More later, gotta go.....

"If he's trying to play mind games with Jimmie Johnson, he's barking up the wrong tree."

"If they want to focus on us instead of getting their own stuff better, then more power to 'em."

That about sums it up, IMO.

I hit scroll and somehow thought the link was to Danica discussing her rear end and grey areas. ;)

I think it was Larry Mac who finally pointed out that Brad was actually challenging Penske to step up the program. IMO, this is the kind of personality nascar needs, not some baby crying everytime things don't go his way.

I liked Jr's comments best. something like 'Brad is a real talented driver who likes to say a lot of stuff. He should stick to what he's good at'.

HMS sure is sensitive to the slightest innuendo. I guess Ricks comments about 'pointing out anything we change on the cars' doesn't include C-post covers.
