Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

Race Hub was talking about what impact Jr's tire test wreck will have on his chase.

why do I bother.

Speakiing tyres for a moment, can somebody tell me what tyre pressures cup cars run on a hi banked track, say like Daytona.

Thanks dp,
interesting to read the inner liner pressures are 15 to 25 psi higher again.

I would imagine that's to fix the inner liner at maximum stretch so it doesn't change during the race. Teams used to mess with the inner liner pressure to control how it affects the tire contact patch as both the liner and tire heat up.

Race Hub had an interesting segment on how tires and team rims are managed after a race. It's a huge undertaking and very technical to inspect each rim and prep it for the next race.

After the race, all the tires and rims are shipped back to a facility. Tires are removed and cataloged for Goodyear, and the inner liners are sent back to them too. The rims are then washed and manually stripped of any glue at the bead and lug holes. Then they go through an electronic camera measuring system which compares rim shape and lug openings to a file created when the rim was new. Each rim has the organizations name painted on the surface between the beads. I think they are then picked up by each organization to bring to the next race, or possibly transported by the tire mounters themselves.

Kurt Busch to RCR in '13?

What will Kurt Busch do in 2013? There is not another free agent as talented as Kurt Busch. The former Cup champion has bided his time with Phoenix Racing this season, as patiently as he could. However, since Busch has driven nothing but top-of-the-line equipment in his career, the tendency this season has been to overdrive the equipment in order to compensate. Yes, there's been plenty of twisted sheet metal to contend with and if team owner James Finch had an extensive fabrication shop, that wouldn't be a problem. But he doesn't. And the answer won't be bringing in a buy-ride next year with Brian Scott. As for Busch, he has met with several owners two of whom were potential Dodge teams before the manufacturer elected not to return next year. Certainly, Furniture Row would still welcome Busch. He also has spoken to principals at Richard Petty Motorsports. However, Busch's best option to get his career back on track would be with Richard Childress Racing, if sponsorship can be secured.(FoxSports)(8-30-2012)

Not even a mention of Kurt meeting with RCR? Pure speculation. I think I'll write an article about Kurt starting his own team and post it as news on the Fox website. They wont mind.

Reading this it sounds like the rims are inspected by GoodYear or NASCAR before going back to the teams. Is that correct? What a huge undertaking that must be.

BTW, I have a GoodYear racing tire in my living room. It's marked as being a right rear tire. It has an innerliner as well as the autograph of some guy named Jimmie Johnson...

Gonna take more than a wedge adjustment for that thing to go fast.

I forget the name of the company that handles the rims, but it's not Goodyear.
WARNING: JJ probably didn't sign that tire. That's assistant work.

That's pretty cool Robbybee, I've never seen one with the innerliner still in it.

Oh HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could be. I dunno. The tire was given to me by a friend who was a regional manager at LOWE'S before Jimmie won his first Championship. He got it from one of the HMS guys who was taking a Number 48 show car from store to store. I have never had it authenticated.

I'll post a couple pics for what it's worth...

Hey, y'all:

I took a couple pics but the files are too large to download to the server. Short of reformatting the camera and re-shooting, is there any way to post these pics?

Thanks.

Maybe you do have something there. I thought you freighted it over to HMS for JJ to sign. There are people who do that.

Now that's documentation. If there's a 2003 piece of the Kings chewing gum stuck to it, you'll be rich.

You should make a coffee table out of it. Or a cooler. Yeah, put the ice between the tire and the liner and you'll have a rolling beer cooler.

There still may be some details to work out, so tell me how the first beer goes. :D

Champion Tire and Wheel. The same company that hauls all the pit war wagons to each track every week. The garage tool boxes and crash carts are hauled by each respective team. The War Wagons just will not fit in in each respective hauler, so Champion hauls them...
