Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

I kinda like the current tracks included in The Chase they pretty well cover what NASCAR runs on during the year and have a decent variety only thing I'd change would be another smaller track with Character added like Richmond or Darlington.
As far as Road Courses it's just not what NASCAR is about.

Here's what we have now,

Chicago 1 1/2 mile D oval
New Hampster 1 mile flat pancake
Dover 1 mile banked all the way around
Talladega 2.66 mile flat foot it track
Charllotte 1 1/2 mile with character
Kansas 1 1/2 D for dull
Martinsville 1/2 flaaaaat & tight
Phoenix 1 mile tri oval I guess? interesting track since the remodel
Homestead 1 1/2 oval different from all others put up a great final last year even if only 3 cars where involved.

I'm not a big fan of Chicago or Kansas either one could be traded out as far as I'm concerned.

As far as Road Courses it's just not what NASCAR is about.
What is NASCAR about? Is it only about running on paved ovals? Heck for many years NASCAR ran mostly dirt. Things evolve and NASCAR's no exception.

NASCAR starting running road courses back in 1949 in their very first season. A guy named Red Byron took that victory.

As far as Road Courses it's just not what NASCAR is about.

Historically, the roots of NASCAR are all about turning left AND right - as moonshiners in hopped-up rides tried to outrun the revenooers on the back roads of the South. Not many ovals to be found out there...

I grew up in SoCal and attended my first NASCAR Race at Riverside Raceway in 1967. I have been watching racing for a long time and my preference is to see drivers digging, gouging, shifting gears, on the brakes, off the brakes, squealing the tires, smoking the clutch, beating the hell out of the car and seeing who can best conquer the track.

I like ovals - especially Darlington, Bristol, Phoenix, Dover and many others. I'm not a big fan of 1.5 milers (mostly) and I truly hate Destructor Plate Racing.

If there was an opportunity for me to make the post-season schedule it would look something like this:

Road Course - any one (or maybe even two) of these:
Road America, Daytona Road Course, Sears Point
Bristol
Darlington
Texas
Phoenix
Dover
Homestead
Rockingham
Atlanta
Martinsville

But that's just me... :D

It's funny how 'nascar tradition' gets used sometimes from the very people who demand a pushrod V8. To me, nascar's tradition is to run on all types of tracks using cars that looked like, and with engines based on, what consumers are buying at the time. That strong tradition was the engine for 'win on Sunday, sell on Monday' and created a real connection between race fans and the competitior who raced 'what I drive to work everyday'.

NASCAR needs to get some of that magic back, and that will take changing to what is stock today, not 30 years ago.

NASCAR is about Oval racing!

Why's Nascar go to the road courses at Watkins Glen, Sonoma or back in the day Riverside? Money! Do you have A BETTER ANSWER? There all in Big Markets that NASCAR and it's sponsors want a presence in. Sadly New York would not/will not let NASCAR build an oval track and California fails to support their oval tracks, hows attendence at Cali Speedway? ( Keep in mind what happened to Ontario, Ascot, Irwindale ) so all thats left is the prexisting road courses.

Sure I like road racing, it's alot of fun especially in Technologicaly Advanced Vehicles that where designed to do it! Watching a F1 car rip thru the corners is a thing of Beauty! Not to mention the old Can-Am cars and the current GTP's! Watching a 3400lb NASCAR Cup car waddle it's way around bouncing off stuff swinging it's Fat Butt around with talented Stock Car drivers showing their lack of road racing talent may be Fun for some.....not me. Beside's it's sure not what the other 34 races a year are all about!

Just curious whens the last time you went to your local Road Course to watch some Saturday Night Stock Car Racing anyway?

So maybe there needs to be a dividing line between Entertainment and Racing somewhere? For me it's when a Stock Car turns right at the end of a straightaway.....he's either hitting the wall, headed to the pits or he aint on no Stock Car Track!

Someone brought this up once before and said that NASCAR started out racing at Daytona On a Road Course
Well yeah they called it a road course because A1A was and is a Public Road, however they ran down a seldom used Straight Section made a louie then drove down the beach aways and made another louie......hmmmmm straight left straight left straight sounds kinda like an oval huh?

I wouldn't mind seeing them simply swap Richmond & Chicago dates and leave Bristol where it's at in the schedule. Personally I like Bristol but it seems many don't anymore so I'm not sure it would make a good Chase race.

I sure agree about the road course thing. I'm not a big Kansas fan, the track that is. Get that second date off of the schedule and replace it with Road Atlanta.

Excellent. B)

My reason for moving the Bristol night race into the chase is purely personal, I hate heat.

Mine is personal as well. I don't want to see both Bristol and Martinsville be any closer together. I go to both but if they were only a month apart I'd probably have to give up one or the other.

Bass Pro Shops is expected to be a co-primary sponsor for #14-Tony Stewart's NASCAR Sprint Cup effort next season. Office Depot, which supported Stewart since the inception of Stewart-Haas Racing in 2009, will withdraw its sponsorship at the end of the season. The company was the primary on 22 of the 38 NASCAR Cup races this season. Mobil 1, which was a co-primary with Office Depot this season, will continue in that role in 2013. Bass Pro Shops has enjoyed a long relationship with NASCAR. The outdoors company sponsored Martin Truex Jr. in a limited run at Dale Earnhardt Inc. when the driver won his first Nationwide Series title in 2004. The company took over as a full primary the following year and graduated with Truex to the Sprint Cup Series for his first full season in 2006. When DEI merged with Ganassi Racing prior to the 2009 season, Bass Pro Shops accompanied Truex and then remained with the team with Jamie McMurray when he returned to Ganassi in 2010 and has been with McMurray since.(Fox Sports)(9-13-2012)

Bad news for Ganassi ?I assume they won't be sponsoring Jamie ? They will be real hard to replace on that car.

Or just plan more strategically? Maybe get a handler...you know, like Lindsay Lohan? Although, I for sure wouldn't hire any of hers.

Interesting IMO.

AJ Allmendinger will be at IndyCar season finale at Fontana today and tomorrow as a guest of Roger Penske.

I think AJ needs to come clean with Roger before he even hopes to get a second chance. Meanwhile, I haven't heard anything about AJ completing his NASCAR mandated 'stress therapy'. lol

Diet Mountain Dew cutting back sponsorship of Earnhardt, Jr.: #88-Dale Earnhardt Jr. won't have Diet Mountain Dew as a sponsor for as many races in 2013 as he did in 2012, but he's not worried about Hendrick Motorsports finding sponsors for those races. NASCAR's most popular driver will have sponsorship from the Army National Guard for 20 races next year and Diet Mountain Dew for an unspecified number. Mountain Dew sponsored 16 races this year while another Pepsi product, Amp, sponsored four. The National Guard had 18 races this year. Earnhardt is not worried about having an unsponsored car at Hendrick. The organization has had Hendrickcars.com on Kasey Kahne's car for select races this year when it didn't sell sponsorships. "We have more demand than we have supply pretty much," Earnhardt said. "We've got a majority of the season with the Guard and Diet Mountain Dew is going to back off a little bit and that makes it a bit of a challenge to fill that small of a gap. If it were a bit larger gap, it would be easier to fill."(Sporting News)(9-14-2012)

Anyone think Stenhouse will get a Cup win in the 17 in his first full Cup year?
It's weird because I think he and Matt's driving styles coldn't be farther apart.

Technical bulletin: Upgrade to roll cage for 2013

NASCAR has issued technical bulletins in both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide series that address a safety enhancement to the driver's roll cage and will take effect beginning in January 2013. The cars in both series will feature an additional forward roof bar and a center roof support bar that will intersect near the front center of the roll cage. This addition comes following extensive testing at the NASCAR Research & Development Center and is an effort to strengthen the roll cage and help make it an even safer compartment for the driver.

Stenhouse will be the next Kyle Busch. Wreck a lot early, but he'll calm down and hit his stride earlier than Kyle did. He could win a couple in his first full season.

Not only win, but make the chase as well.

Sponsors returning to #17 team in 2013: UPDATE: Roush Fenway Racing confirmed that 2011 Nationwide Series champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr., will pilot its historic #17 Ford Fusion next season in the Sprint Cup Series. One of the emerging talents in NASCAR, Stenhouse steps into a championship-caliber program in the # 17, with current team partners Best Buy, Fifth Third Bank and Zest each returning to the team as primary sponsors in 2013. "I can't think of a better fit for Ricky than the #17 team," added Jack Roush. "Ricky will have the luxury of being flanked by a championship-level team from the start. His drive, determination and commitment to winning will mesh very well with the demeanor of the #17 team. It will be our job to put him in the best equipment possible, as well as to guide him through the learning curves that are part of his rookie season. Best Buy, Fifth Third Bank and Zest each joined Roush Fenway's #17 team as primary partners in 2012. These three partners will return to the #17 again next year, with each increasing their commitment in 2013 for Stenhouse's entry into Sprint Cup competition. With their involvement, the majority of Stenhouse's races for 2013 are fully sponsored

It's good he has something to do since he won't have to focus on winning that pesky championship.

"I need a challenge," Edwards said. "That's what I told Jack and the guys. If there's anything I can do to help Matt and Greg, anything to give me a goal, that's how I'm built."
What's he mean, "help"? :growl:

Perhaps going all Eddie Haskill and wrecking the points leader. ;)

He can help them by not doing something stupid to ruin their chance at the cup and properly drafting at Talledega. Other than that, just get he hell out of the way.

...and off their bumpers.

I still laugh when I watch him plow Biffle, Matt and 9 others out of that race. The next year, a damn rookie flawlessly pushes Carl around Talladega, the pawns his ass with a double move for the win.

I'm listening to MRN and they just said something about a shuffle to the Cup lineup with Edwards moving up to the outside of the front row?
