Return of the "3"

I'm done being nice. The same people who complain about Danica-hype are the same ones hyping Dillon and talking endlessly about Earnhardt. THEY might be sick of hearing about Danica. The rest of us are sick of hearing about Earnhardt all the time for the last 13 years.

How many people do you speak for on the forum?

Well its not like you were ever that nice anyway Andy. There are probably several of us that will continue to remember Dale for the next 13 years too. I never really cared much about who liked it. I have NEVER hyped Dillon btw

I will be shedding a tear when I see the 3 leading the pack too the line at Daytona. Not because dillon is driving the 3 but because Dale isnt :(
After that I will enjoy watching the race

anybody wanna guess which car number will prolly be #1 in swag sales this yr. ?

I am sick and freakin' tired of the waffling of Mr. Childress and the media. For those that are pro, both parties play the nostalgia car. For those anti, "It's Richard Childress' number." Enough already of the the cowhat stories of how he always ran that number on everything since he was a kid. Frankly, I'm done with it. Just want my Toyotas to kick its ass. Just like last year, NASCAR got its story. Duels and then the Deal. Let's race.

Is sick of hearing about the 3's return to the Cup series.

Starts a thread about the 3's return to the Cup series and creates a lot of talk about the 3's return to the Cup series. lol

My daughter has been stocking up on cowhat gear all winter :bleh:

TRD won the race ------------------ be happy Rev :)

Damn good point. Life is too short. Duels in the crosshairs, and then it's the show. I want this badly. Badly. Real bad. Counting down the days since last year's devastation to make things right. I am not joking. It's been stuck in my gut for a full year.

Seeing the 3 back on the track brings back a lot of pleasant memories, my family at the track, my kids small and at home. The races I attended with my late father and brothers (my father did not like Dale). Those were some great times.

I don't view the 3 being back on track as a slap to Dale Sr., I see it as a tribute to his legacy.

Friends, this is getting a bit heated over a subject that is a very sore point with a lot of people.
As a DE fan, I can understand the feelings of those who don't want the number on the track --- but that is beyond our control
We have no say in the matter. Blasting each other and calling each other names is NOT going to change anything.

Those of you new to NASCAR may not realize just how painful the sight of that number is. I choose to respect RC's decision to
return the number to the track with his grandson driving it. I sincerely doubt the number would be on the track if an outsider, with no
connection to Childress or Earnhardt driving it.

Yes, it hurts. But is also brings good memories to mind. I prefer to dwell on the good memories, and not constantly relive 2001. I
concur with DaleJr, it's time.

So I may get jumped for this... but I've been curious for a while now....

From what I've heard about Dale Earnhardt Sr.... he pushed a lot of people out of the way, wrecked, bumped, and otherwise "intimidated" his way through the field a lot.. Why was it okay for him to do that stuff and not get jumped on like pretty much anyone that would do it today? I mean what was so great about the guy? I get that he was fast and won a lot of races and championships.. but how many of those races and championships did he just wreck his way into winning? I seriously asking because I don't know.. The reputation that he has IMO is o a guy that would wreck you if he couldn't beat you.. I obviously don't know fully but I don't like that back then it made someone one of the greatest of all time and now everyone cries when a guy makes contact? I suppose it's a lot of "no one remembers who finished second" type thing.. he got the trophies and guys like me don't know how he got which ones etc.. So all we see is all those wins and cups... but how many times did fans leave the track pissed off at him making some stupid move and dumping their driver to win? I don't see that stuff because I see wins.. numbers.. which are all that matters... but what really bugs me is that if some driver were to start wrecking people for wins they get scrutinized.. I mean damn even Joey was scrutinized for moving Mark out of the way at Pocono.. but the numbers remain and eventually no will remember that he moved Mark... just that he won that race..... is that the same kind of situation here? Between that and respect for him because of his death?

I guess my main thing is... why was it okay for him and not okay for these guys today? .. and how many of his "fans" weren't even his fans until his death? I'm not trying to be a dick.. I'm just curious.. There had to have been a lot of people who didn't like him.. but looking back he is an icon because he had the numbers and lost his life, which in turn brought NASCAR into a new safety era and had an overall positive affect on the sport as a whole.. but how much of the love for him is only because of that?

Please.. don't jump all over me for this one guys, I'm actually asking a serious question.

`Childress didn't get to where he is $$$ by being stupid. The kid has already proven he is a champion in two series? First race out of the box the rookie kid puts it on the pole to start the biggest race..any of this sinking in? Slap the three on there and guess what, if he continues to do as well as he has started out, you won't be able to keep the sponsors off the car with a stick. You need big bucks to be at the front in Nascar. Just glad that the harpies in the press have a real race car driver to flock around this year. Much better than last year.

Gotta agree with you on that one... I prefer a driver who has proven themselves by doing more than stripping in a GoDaddy commercial. I still don't expect him to set the world onfire.. he's gotta get used to racin these cup guys.. and I have a feeling the 3 car won't be getting as much respect from the competitors as it did before.

in the short time he has been racing in Nascar, he has accomplished more than any rookie he is racing against and most of the cup drivers. I don't think respect has anything to do with it, his record speaks for itself.

I guess things are a bit different today Sliced but Dale was one of a kind, lots of people hated him and lots loved him. I think everyone respected him though
