Richard Petty 7-Time Real Cup Champ, KyBu is a Waiver Chump

Big changes for Xfinity, composite bodies next year except for plate tracks, Daytona and Dega. First race is Darlington for them week after next. It will be interesting to see how they do without the aero advantages the mega teams have been doing.

Johnny Davis sounded enthusiastic about it.

Was a really good viewpoint on alot of topics and his opinion on the crate motors was interesting as it would actually take money away from NASCAR's top team's business side if it we're to happen.

Ryan Sieg and Blake Koch should be champions then, small teams, but they are punching above their weight most of the time. Out running JGR, RCR, JGR, and one Roush car... Its crazy how most of these smaller teams are fighting for as high as a 12th place finish.
I like watching Ryan Sieg race, if it wasn't for Cup teams running Xfinity he'd be a near lock to win every race.

I miss Cup drivers running Busch Series races in their own teams equipment w/o any help from their Cup teams (like Earnhardt in DEI ) or if they dropped down to run for a team that wasn't affiliated with Cup

crate cars, right off the lot. would really be fun too watch.

Upon reviewing these posts I have reconsidered KyBu's status --

KyBu moves up to 37th in the field of 40 best NASCAR drivers of all time. He's still nowhere near the Top 30 except in asinine conniptions.

You are welcome... :)

Despite the fact he's tied for 17th on the all-time Cup win list.

Yep....no bias here. :lol2:

37th is being generous...

But, if you're now claiming he's 17th based on wins -- then we both agree that he's not in the Top 15. :p

Oh no! We still have 9 days to go until the next race so the next week could be brutal in terms of subject material. I will leave the tale of Kyle and the minor leagues to others but as a Cup driver Kyle is very good and, IMO, is a high risk high reward driver and has won more cup races than most ever will. The issue of whether Kyle is in the same league as Richard, Dale, Cale, Bobby, Jeff, JJ, David and the rest is not a question. After his career is finished we can figure out where he slots in amongst the best. Top 15 very likely, top 10 maybe and top 5 is not a snowball's chance.

Exactly.

Top 15 top 10. Right now, in terms of the NASCAR heirarchy as a cup driver, he's at Matt Kenseth level

Is there anyone else who wants him to win another Cup title sometime just so he can bump off the "asterisk"?

Close to the top fifteen in the Cup win column, capable of winning at short tracks, intermediate tracks, restrictor plate tracks, road courses, has won at 22 out of 23 tracks on the Cup schedule with Charlotte being the exception - which is subject to change since he's won there in Trucks and Xfinity (and not even Jimmie has won at that many tracks in his Cup career *yet*, and I think Tony Stewart won at 22 or perhaps all of the tracks*?*), has many years in his career left, has outstanding rapport with JGR, obviously one of the best teams in the sport today... there's no reason why this guy won't go down as one of the best when he is done.

^ I'd like to add that I am not even a fan of his, so this isn't biased because I'm a KyBu lover.
KuBu is the Busch bro I root for more.

Using a truck racing comparison, coming in 17th compared to the winner of the race adds some perspective when there are some saying GOAT. ridiculous

Yaaa another KB hate thread
That's how just about every thread in the NASCAR section ends up these days. :(
I remember when everyone hated Earnhardt.
Then they hated Gordon...for beating the guy they were hating before.
The same people that hated Earnhardt cried like babies and sang a different tune when he died.
Some folks will never be happy.

There were tears all around at my house when Dale passed away ......... Nascar has never been nor will it ever be the same :(
If it weren't for getting to see Kyle Busch drive in person I would still not be watching Nascar ...... I have to thank my oldest daughter for dragging me to that race

I find it hard to believe that you cannot discern disliking a figure in sports versus feeling terrible over the sudden death of the man.

Theres a vibrant difference.

Disliking someone has nothing to do with changing your rhetoric just because someone dies. It shouldn't take the death of a man to calibrate your moral compass. I wasn't among the Earnhardt haters when he died so I have no guilty memories.
I cried the day Dale died.

Tears around our house too........ We were never Sr. fans....... but......none of us wanted him or anyone else to die..... it was surrealistic that day.... no one expected what we all witnessed...... I agree that Nascar has never been the same for me...... and I was a Mark Martin fan..... never thought I would miss seeing Sr. on the track so much as when he was gone.... Maybe I will feel the same when Kyle leaves... (hopefully not like Sr.)........... but.... I doubt it very much..... Kyle doesn't impress me me the same way Sr. did....... Sr. had that aura that captivated folks...... Kyle doesn't have that.....

I couldn't even believe it.
I don't remember the exact chain of events but I think I remember broadcast dropping off and getting the confirmation later online.
I know that I did cry.
I wasn't really an Earnhardt fan because he was a threat and he was in a Bowtie, but he was NASCAR.
I wonder where we'd be now. Would things have drifted so far what made the sport real?

I was working that day . I worked 7 days a week back then and my daughter called me with the news ... it was as though a close family member had suddenly passed

Didn't have mobile internet access back then. I remember being on the phone with a buddy that didn't have a computer. Regardless of where his guy qualified, he'd always ask, "Where'd Earnhardt qualify?"
Dale was always a threat.

My oldest son and I were watching the race....... it didn't look like it was that bad........ then.... as everything unfolded..... Kenny Schreaders face.... the ambulance slowly exiting..... then...... Mike Helton........ it was more than likely the worst day in Nascar history.....

Yeah....... I also wonder that where we would be now...... I really think it would be a lot different...... Before that point..... I never realized how important he was to the sport and how his death might change it.

I understand totally........

I saw something in Kyle ........... an intense will to win and the skill to back it up ........ dude went to the back twice at that race I attended and still won !!! drove that Nationwide car like his life depended on it. I heard a few detractors talking crap about him and that sealed the deal for me ........ thats my driver now

****. I knew when Kenny went crazy but it didn't really settle in my gut until I actually read it. I still have a VHS tape of the race but I've never watched it.

That's good for you...... I'm glad you got the zeal back......

I haven't..... used to never miss a race...... weekend was planned around it....... now..... not so much....

Its hard to find a family member to watch with these days . it really sucks.

It was never ever anyone here except me and my oldest son..... wife and youngest son never cared a lick about racing...... oldest son doesn't live close anymore...... but.... he calls me if something is going on in the race......

Someone posted the link to the aforementioned stats before. I think it was Jayski's or racing-reference. Well worth checking out. It definitely gives you a better idea of who is going to do well at each individual track. :)

Just wanted to make sure. I do like him, but all this talk is premature.
The talk of him being the GOAT and what not? Yes, it is premature. If he were to quit right now, though, his record would hardly be one of the worst. :D
I want to see how it all works out in 5, 10 years, because he's easily got that many left. :)
