We did Rocky Mountain Race Week on the OLD section of Route66 between Tulsa and Oklahoma City the last 2 years. You wont be able to take an RV on it due to weight zoned bridges, but you can stop near and walk or bike it from NEW Route66.
Just a warning: Many roads in Arkansas and Oklahoma are...lets just say that some are un-deserving of being called interstates or highways.
After you leave Amarillo about 70 miles west will be the New Mexico state line and the first exit which is just past the rest area is Russell's Travel Center at exit 369 and they have a free museum inside that has a lot of nice cars and other cool historical items to check out. It is definitely worth stopping and checking it out if you have the time.Amarillo by morning....

Darn it. Passed right on by without thinking.
