See any good movies lately?

Watched Noah last night. Meh. Dragged on. Now I'm not what you'd consider a "church goin' fella" and know very little about the story of Noah (other than what I was taught in Sunday school as a little kid), but even I found it a little odd that no one ever used the name God. Seem they tried everything they could to avoid it, replacing it with "The Creator."
 
I watched Elsewhere the other night. It wasn't bad. My daughter wanted to watch it because she likes Anna Kendrick. I'd never seen her in anything and didn't think she was really anything special. Tonia Raymonde was pretty hot though.

If you are going to watch a Anna Kendrick movie the watch Pitch Perfect. You wont regret it. One of the funniest movies I have seen in a while.
 
I watched the movie Gone the other night. It was a couple of years old. It stars Amanda Seyfried as a chick who was abducted by a serial killer a year earlier and very early in the movie her sister is taken by the same guy. She goes on a frantic search to find her. It was really good. It was very well cast as well. Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter's sister on the show Dexter) plays a kind of small, but pivotal role. She doesn't get naked in this one like she did a lot in Dexter, but she was still pretty good. It was a very intense movie most of the time. I thought it was pretty cool though that they kind of slid in sort of an inside joke when Carpenter's character turns the TV on for her kids to watch something and a show called Thelonious Monkies was coming on. Thelonious Monk is a jazz music legend, for those who may not know who he is. I just thought that was kind of funny.

Finally saw The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Thoroughly enjoyable, well done movie.

The hell did I just watched?
 
I finally watched the original Carrie from 1976 last night. My 16 year old daughter wanted to see it. She really likes watching scary or suspenseful stuff with me. It was on Sundance, which we just got with the new U-Verse system, so I didn't realize it was uncut until the opening shower scene when we were seeing full frontal female nudity. It was a good thing I had dvr'ed it so I could skip over much of the nudity quickly. Incidentally, it was kind of weird seeing the the wild unkempt growth in the nether regions of the '70 after such a long time has passed. But, anyway, it was a pretty good movie in spite of it's self. A lot of the acting was pretty bad and much of the story line didn't make a lot of sense, like why all those girls were just so gleeful in their hateful mistreatment of her for just being different. I had to explain to my daughter which of the kids were supposed to be the cool ones a few times, because the hair styles and clothing styles that were considered cool then made some of them appear to be geeks and outcasts to her now, but she enjoyed it. Carrie's mom just really freaked her out though. She just did not get that woman at all.

Love this movie. One of the few Stephen King stories that translated well to the screen.
 
I saw the new X-Men movie tonight. Very good movie, Quicksilver had only a small portion but was outstanding. And Ellen Page is damn cute.
 
I watched two movies yesterday. The second one was the remake of Total Recall, the one with Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, and Jessica Biel. It was really pretty good. I'm not big on sci-fi type stuff, but it was pretty well done. They picked good actors for the main characters and that made a big difference.

So, uh, what was the first one?
 
I had to look up the name of the first movie I saw yesterday, it didn't stick in my head. It was called Legendary. I was a little different in that the main character was played by a guy named Devon Graye, who looked kind of familiar, but you wouldn't know his name if he was sitting in a room with you. There were supporting actors like John Cena, Patricia Clarkson, Danny Glover and a very nice job by Madeleine Martin as his girlfriend.
 
I watched The Call with my youngest daughter last week. It was pretty good. It starred Halle Berry and Abigail Breslin. It was from 2013. It wasn't the greatest movie ever made, but it was suspenseful and entertaining.
 
I love the Hunger Games movies. I only watched them because of Jennifer Lawrence but ended up really enjoying them.
 
Saw "A Million Ways to Die in the West" last night. It kinda dragged in parts, but I thought it was a pretty funny movie overall. Not for the easily offended, though.

i'm wanting to see that
 
After many many years, this is till my second favorite movie, only to "The Pursuit of Happyness." This is also the movie that taught me not to lie, because nothing that comes out of the truth can possibly be worse than what happens to this guy for being a liar.

 
Went with the wife and saw The Fault in Our Stars, not my kind of movie at all, but the actors in it did an amazing job made it enjoyable. Very sad though because as I told my wife when she was reading the book.... SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!










...There is no way a story about 2 cancer patients will have a happy ending, which the movie at least tells you right up front.
 
I finally saw Silver Linings Playbook. I was hesitant because it got great reviews, and that usually means the movie sucks. But I liked it quite a bit. My wife and kids tried watching it with me (my youngest is 16), but all of the excessive f-bombs turned her off after a while and she and both of my girls made me turn it off and watch something else. I finished watching it later. I honestly think it would have been better if they would have tried to find adjectives or verbs that didn't start with "F" but it was still pretty good. Jennifer Lawrence really made the movie work.
