Showdown and All-Star race thread

It's not manufactured. He's in a good head space right now.

I guess he could still blow up one day...anyone can. But he's been just as positive away from the cameras.

It's FURNITURE ROW!!!!! Crazy how many times that happens, but at least it's both ways! We got a ton of exposure for winning Talladega!

As for me, been really busy. I still read the board a lot...it's part of my job to keep up with what fans are saying.

Saturday night was bitter sweet. Everyone would have loved to close the deal - but it's really hard to be disappointed with, for lack of a better word, total domination of most of the night. As soon as Carl took the high lane to start, we knew we had that segment won. And we could have easily caught Kyle in the 3rd segment, our lap times were that much better, but elected to hang back and save our tires in case we stayed out. We had a clear game plan, and executed it PERFECTLY...except our last stop was slower than a handful of others. Even one second faster could have put us in front - our best lap times were better than JJ's, too. This is the first year we've had our own dedicated pit crew. There will be growing pains when it matters the most and the pressure is greatest (we had a slow stop to end Richmond, too), but we're getting better each race. It's just nice to know the same guys this year will (likely) be back next year. Renting a crew, and not knowing who'd be back was brutal.

When Kurt got out of the car, he clearly had a look that suggested he shared the disappointment as a team member. No finger pointing, no excuses...just disappointment that any human would feel. And when they turned the cameras on, he focused on the positive. Much like he did at Richmond when reporters wanted to ask about he and Smoke at the end.

I'll say this - I've worked with Kurt enough now to know one thing is true: the guy says and does whatever he wants, whenever he wants, good or bad. We couldn't "manufacture" an image for him if we wanted to. So right now, all the positive energy in interviews, and all the smiles after disappointing finishes - that's all Kurt.

They can change the format for this nonpoints race, but they can't keep Johnson out of Victory Lane.
"People just want to hate," Johnson said with a laugh inside the media center at Charlotte Motor Speedway. "That's fine. I'm just lucky. NASCAR rigs the races and whatever they want to believe. I'm going home with a cool trophy and a big check and we all really know what happened.
"So whatever."
Crew chief Chad Knaus lowered his head and laughed.
Both are laughing all the way to the bank as the Hendrick Motorsports team collected a cool $1 million.

Here is an idea for the race that hasn't been brought up, Chad Knaus's idea.
Much of it has to do with the nature of the 1.5-mile track, but Knaus did have a suggestion that could work. It involved Goodyear giving teams different sets of compounds in their 11-set allotment.
Force crew chiefs to use tire strategy with half the tires so soft that there will be extreme wear.
"When those tires fall off, that's when you're going to start to see some passing," Knaus said. "It could be very exciting to see who plays the tire strategy."

Heck yeah that's a good idea!

that could be a good solution. Try it out on the cookie cutter tracks, might wake up the racing.

LOL. Yeah, I read that on Jayski. That's hilarious. I always enjoy seeing him address his haters.

FB pretty much summed up my opinion about Johnson perfectly in another thread. I don't dislike the guy at all, but it's hard for me to really root for him because he wins all the time. That 48 team reminds me of the San Antonio Spurs. Yeah, they've shown a chink or two in the armor over the last couple of years, but usually they're just so darn perfect and do everything right. It's too easy to cheer for that.
