SILLY SEASON 2018

It sure sounds like dale jr. knows something about Matt's situation... wouldn't be surprised to see him wind up at Hendrick next year. We'll see.

Just saw the clip of Kenseth at the presser. Man he seemed uncomfortable.

If they are not keeping him in spite of his desire to continue, I see no reason for him to keep quite.
It is a buisness and he should market himself.
I am sure that insiders have the details in advance, but still better than tip toeing around
the questions.
And that is one of the big problems, Nascar and the press has to many stale scripted interviews already.

Looked pissed. I like it. It felt like he said what he wanted to say even though he knew that maybe that is not what the company would not have wanted. Shows me something. Would love to see him in the 77, but just not sure he would bite on that. Matt has been great for JGR.

The more I think about it the more I like Matt to the 88.

makes me wonder why Kenseth already knows that and the season isn't even half over. Makes me wonder what Carl might have known.

I think Carl was more marketable and secure with JGR.

There is something to be said for that, but I would want him to get 2-3 years there. I believe strongly that he deserves more than placeholder status. With the 77, I say he could get at least 2 years until Bell is ready. Not sure what they are doing with the 88. Where did the Bowman hysteria go? Now it's all about Byron. Bowman could go now. Byron needs another 1-3 years IMO.

I am wondering if Greg Ives will be Chase Elliotts CC next year.

Generally I respectfully disagree with your posts but I do agree that kenseth deserves to be more than just a placeholder. I still believe bowman deserves a shot with Hendrick as he was impressive in the 88 last year. Byron is good and a future champion I do believe however I don't think they should rush him into the cup scene. He's young and has plenty of time. Let kenseth finish up his career in the 88 and then move Byron up. Or if bowman doesn't perform in the 5, move Byron up.

17 ******* cup wins
Consider that he had to drive the worst car that JGR ever put on the track with a jerk for CC. I think Joey has shown that his lack of wins at JGR was his team and not the driver.
Joey gets a real team mate and a Xfinity team and starts winning in Cup. That's proof enough for me.
Joey was also the most winning driver in JGR xfinity cars.

I'm glad he has found a home that he is comfortable with....... that makes a tremendous difference......

Joey didn't mesh with Zippy and Tony's Home Depot crew? Sorry didn't know the first I heard of this

Furniture Row Racing owner Barney Visser said he would like to have two NASCAR Cup cars in 2018, but he has "nothing concrete" on whether the organization will field a teammate for Martin Truex Jr. if Erik Jones goes, as expected, to Joe Gibbs Racing.

It would be a shame to see FR drop to one team given the quality of rides they supply. They could probably hire Matt DiBen for peanuts and he may not get a win but he would make the chase and get some top 5's for sure. If I was John Menard I would be begging Barney to take my money and stick my kid in the 77.

JGR is my least favorite team out there. Just never get into what they or any of their drivers seem to do... always rubs me the wrong way. Carl was great with ford but I just had a hard time with him in the JGR fold, that whole deal at dega last year purposely starting the race knowing they wanted to finish tale end of the lead lap did it for me... Carl being apart of laying down for a race because he and his team didn't "need" it... Disgusting.

I might remember that I like kenseth or something if he gets away from that team...

In my opinion, Zippy said this was good enough for Tony just drive it.
He knew he was leaving to go with Tony.
Hamlin first chance, tried to bully Joey and got himself a trip into the wall.
What a fitting present to Joey. :D

Are you celebrating because a driver broke his back?

I just love it when a Bully gets the tables turned on them and gets what is coming to them.
You notice Denny has laid off trying to bully people now. Lesson learned.

I dunno. He still seems like the same guy to me. Thinks he's the face of the garage. Constantly telling everyone else how to race. I can't wait for him to crown the next Cup superstar by prematurely calling them a bum.

Denny is one of the best in the business, but he's a grade A douchenozzle.

Denny was a track rambo last night after he and McMurray tangled. I didn't see anything happen and Denny had his chances. He was just wait until I catch up with you Hamlin nah. I think McMurray could take him anyway, Logano called him out a couple of times and he wouldn't quit running his mouth until he ate the wall.

I think it was more of Dale Junior sticking up for his buddy.

As for Kenseth going to Hendrick, I'm not sure how good of a fit that would be. He would obviously be an upgrade over Kahne, but Matt doesn't strike me as the type of person that will go somewhere as a one year "placeholder."

Damn I hope your right. I also hope no one offers him a ride.

Here's the bottom line - there are a few pretty good landing spots for Kenseth, but only if he's willing to take about 80% less salary. If he's looking for something close to what he's making now, he's as good as retired. Sponsorships no longer deliver ROI, which means teams need to slash their budgets, which means drivers won't be making as much money in the future. Once all of this levels out (operating budgets, which include all salaries), the sport will feel like it's thriving.

Make no mistake about it, NASCAR does NOT have a sponsorship problem. Teams have a pricing problem. Sponsors aren't leaving because they don't like NASCAR...they're leaving because while ratings & attendance (media impressions) continue to drop, the price teams are charging for sponsorship has remained the same.

Simple analogy - imagine walking down the street for a giant ice cream sundae. It's $10, but it's so much ice cream you can usually share it with someone, or save some for later. It's definitely your go-to place. As the years go by, you notice you've been getting less and less ice cream...until finally, you realize you're getting just as much ice cream as most people charge $4 for. Only your place is still charging $10. You still really like the ice cream...but if you need to spend $10, you'd rather go down the street to a new place where $10 now gets you twice as much pretty good ice cream. Make sense? It's not about the loyalty, or the taste, or the experience, or the desire to eat ice cream. It's really just about simple economics. At some point, the original ice cream shop better be able figure out how to survive for only $4 a sundae.

I think that is what decided Junior to retire. Not many sponsors want a share of 30 million dollar sponsor ship. JMO

I'm hearing Erik could be announced to the 20 as early as tomorrow. Methinks Matt's comments in Kentucky sped up many timetables.

Will Furniture Row continue to run the 77 next year, or was it just planned as a one year kind of thing?

I doubt it at this point, but not confirmed. It was not planned to be a one & done, but there's not enough funding to keep it going for a season for the sake of keeping it going. In other words, Kenseth for a season or two isn't worth Barney's & TRD's millions in support. I suspect it could return in a year or two (or three) if Christopher Bell (or some other TRD kid) is ready to jump in long term. I've heard Barney would keep all the employees on the payroll as a kind gesture since he promised them two seasons. Also allows time to plan a return.

How invested is Toyota in Bell? Is there plan to eventually get to 8 Top dog cars? I mean I just don't see Bell at Gibbs in the long run. I would imagine they want to run Kyle & Denny until retirement.

Hendrick didn't have any trouble recruiting Byron from the Toyota camp to drive for him. I would say Bell isn't that attached if the right offer came along in either Xfinity or cup. Who knows, he might be looking for a ride in the trucks. Bell could make a living driving sprints if the wheels fell off in Nascar.
