Silly Season 2023

Go through Marcus Lemonis’s ‘likes’ on his Twitter account and it’s very apparent he has some issues with the series right now.
What are his issues... or could you provide an example of a tweet he liked that gave you this impression?

As posted above, Ricky is back in the 47. I like him on this team.

I'm guessing next year will be his last then

Putting Hocevar in a cup car right now is thick? He hasn't won a truck race. :dunce:
I agree. I like the kid. But I would consider 22 Trucks, 23 Xfininty, 24 Cup to be fast-tracking him.

Butt on on the other hand I don't think doing 2023 Cup would be a guaranteed disaster. I dont think there is an exact recipe just better recommendations.

Well sorta, maybe I think.

It's a beautiful thing. Hunt Bros/KHI sponsored him for one of his off-week races in a modified a couple weeks ago... I'd say they're happy! 6 out of 10 races in the top 3 series this season have been top 10s. Also he's led laps in 6 of those races as well. His two Cup starts this season were disasters not of his own doing. Put him in the Smithfield SHR car and he'll run circles around Almirola, I promise.

I thought Ryan was a sim driver for SHR much like Bowman was for Hendrick while waiting for a shot. Ryan might be on that same plan

I thought Ryan Preece was underwhelming at JTG-D. I was hoping he would do well, but didn't see any signs of it. He certainly didn't "run circles around" teammates Chris Buescher or Ricky Stenhouse. I understand he is "your driver" and I'm cool with that, but winning in trucks or Xfinity in top-shelf equipment is not like winning in Cup. Is there an explanation for his lackluster performance at JTG-D that I've overlooked?

He really wasn't overly impressive, but Stewart and company believe in his ability.

I see him moving to the 10 car next year, but I would have liked to see Stenhouse in the 10. I think Ricky's in a really good spot right now with JTGD and honestly SHR is not what it once was a few years ago.

I have no inside info but do you think Smithfield is back without Aric?

I actually think Smithfield stays because the drag team, TSR, signed a nice deal to be a sponsor for the NHRA team.

I think Smithfield stays, but may not be involved with as many races with the 10 as we are accustomed to seeing.

Preece had 4 top 10s in 2021 compared to Ricky having 2. In 2020 Preece had something ridiculous like 8 dnfs, including 3 dead last finishes in a row, iirc. I think he performed at JTG's level, and was at similar performance levels as Buescher and Stenouse.

I don't think saying "xxxx driver has more talent than Almirola'" is a very high bar. Preece is not a generational talent. But I think he is good enough for a couple seasons in top tier Cup equipment to at least show his hand.

I think we can all agree to that part. For some reason I think Preece has a bit of a swagger/confidence lately and if he can fit in at SHR he could surprise a bunch of us. I think he knows there aren't too many cup chances left with decent teams also. It should be entertaining to see if he can pull it off.

JRM wants to move up to Cup:
Seems like Jr wanted to sign MTJ to get the Cup organization going.
I so hope Jr gets the right opportunity to bring his team up to Cup. I could really get behind an 8/88 JRM team. I would think they'd have a technical alliance with HMS obviously much like how JGR has one with 23XI.

I guess nascar wouldn't care anymore about JRM going cup racing with Rick owning some of JRM? Apparently not they changed the rules already for Denny and MJ already
