Silly Season For 2017

Bubba to cup? Seriously? I love the kid but he's been awful in xfinity, even Ryan reed has been more impressive then him this year. I'll say this as calmly as possible,

WHY THE **** WOULD THEY BRING BUBBA UP WHEN CHRIS BUESCHER IS UNDER CONTRACT

Yeah, I love the guy too. He's got great TV presence, but his on-track skills just aren't Cup-ready yet. Buescher having an X championship a lot more weight with me when we're talking about who gets a ride.

I think all the kids are great , but if you are trying to sell your brand to sponsors a veteran , even a Bobby Labonte or a Greg Biffle is an asset.

For whatever reason they can't get any money no sponsors going to Jack he apparently tells everybody to f off
Jack doesn't run the office nor does he work with the sponsors or higher drivers.
Jack may have input but all he does now is run the shop and cars at track with what ever budget they give him.
I wouldn't be surprised if he sells charters and races elsewhere.

I really want to see Bubba Wallace succeed and become a star and attract younger and more diverse fans to Nascar. But I'm not sure coming up to Cup next year, and doing so in an under-funded Roush car, is the way to success. I know hope springs eternal and all that, but what you report on Roush-Fenway Racing is not confidence inspiring, to say the least.

And leasing out a charter in 2017 is just a one-year solution, because charters can only be leased one year out of five. So the following year (2018), Roush would need to put that charter back on the track, or sell it (if they lease it out in 2017). Bad medicine for RFR.
If they have 3 charters, can they not rotate and lease a different charter each year.?

I though Jack would have been a good partner for Ford's return to sports car racing. Ford's decision to hook up with Ganassi says they apparently thought otherwise.

I haven't read that question from anyone else. You got a burr up your ass?
So instead of being sassy, just answer the question? Yes, No, Maybe or you could just scroll on past without making a smart alack reply.
Continue on.

The 'Oh, lovely' was sarcastic, trying to indicate the rotating charter leases could be a real mess NASCAR didn't foresee (as usual). The comment about whether anyone else had asked the question was intended as a compliment, that you had spotted something no one else had yet. The bit about giving the owners conniptions was also serious, as I haven't see anything that indicates they've thought of rotating leases either.

The whole thing was intended to indicate that not only can I not answer your question, I don't think anyone else (including NASCAR and the owners) has thought of it and as such, can't give you an answer either.

Lay your hackles back down. There was no offense intended, just a poorly delivered compliment. I'm as interested in seeing your question answered as you are.

Pardon my ignorance, my hackles were a bit high.
I am pretty sure that the owners do have legal advice on what their options are pertaining to leasing charters. At least in my mind they sure should have. I was also pondering the rule about a charter being in last place for 3 years in a row in which case they could lose it. The solution could be to lease that charter to a good team (Penske) for 1 yr for a dollar and I am sure it won't finish last the 3rd year. Saves your charter.

Penske will buy one before they rent a charter for a year.

Reed has signed on for 2 more seasons in Xfinity. He could potentially move up then, as he brings Lilly.

There's another good point I haven't seen raised. If your charter is leased out, can you still lose it for poor performance?

Adam Stern is reporting that Farmers won't renew with the #5 after 2017. Larson to the #5 confirmed?!?

Paul Menard to the 5.

His reaction to this news:

If Jr doesn't race next year then I would love to see Bowman stay in the 88. That would add another young gun to mix it up with Elliott and Blaney and help produce another future star for the series.

Great hire for RCR. Borland is a very smart guy.

I remember when he was with Penske, he and Newman had a lot of success with one another. I'm more shocked that they are not going to reunite, its interesting because Justin Alexander is a talented guy as a CC, but it just seems like since Slugger left Menard he has been more pedestrian than usual.

Looks like Roush and Advocare have renewed their contract for another three years, I think it was until 2017 with the agreement it will go until 2019-20.

He's such a fitness freak, it does not surprise me in the slightest. I really like Bayne, I just wish he showed more consistency and much needed stability for Roush.

This is really good news for a team that most on here seem to expect to vanish by 2020. I can't imagine advocate is dishing out more than 10 million a year but still something is better than nothing.

I thought it was some kinda nursing thing for old folks. Sorta like Gordon ‘n AARP. Wondered why they weren't on the 16.

Then I looked it up……..

When I read NBC Sports' article about Baldwin preparing to sell his charter, they briefly referenced the scenario surrounding the Premium Motorsports charter in such a way that it made it sound like the performance of the team that owns the leased out charter (the 98 in this case) plays some factor into the performance clause.

SHR has re-signed Busch beer to the #4 for 3 years.

Guess the InBev guys figured they want to stick around NASCAR. Since they will soon own SABMiller, this should bode well for the Miller Lite sponsorship of the #2.

Im starting to think the 14 is going to be sponsored in small portions by peak, visine, mobil, haas, and possibly outback and ditech.

I'll throw this term out for situations like this, maybe we call it "Platoon Sponsorship".

Discount Tire has renewed sponsorship of Penske's #22 XFINITY team for an unknown number of races. Keselowski, Logano, Blaney will drive.

As Expected. Penske has had to rebuild that program once they gutted the team to support
the 21 in Cup. The dis-advantage of only running 1 team. JGR has been able to promote their CC's to cup and continue to train others because they also use the Cup drivers to continue evaluating where the Xfinity teams are. JRM also uses cup drivers for evaluation such as Harvick and Stewart but IMO because of the drivers ego's the feed back is not as beneficial.

‏@ColeWhitt

For all asking I have no plans for cup the remainder of 2016 but looking to end the season on a strong note with some good news coming soon.

Looks like he left Premium and is looking for more, Whitt is a former Red Bull member and was at JRM for some time. The dude is talented, just I think he's not had the same opportunity since his year at JRM and I hope he gets something going for next year. He has money behind him as well, so I hope someone will look at him, but the sad thing is that there are only so many good seats available.

I have been wondering about this for a while. I am still a little confused about them moving the shop. Last year and this year I have been to the shop and it is my opinion that the cars that Ryan races are not prepared at the Wood Brothers shop, but at Penske. Notwithstanding, I think this is great news for Ryan Blaney until Roger finally goes with a third cup team.
...
If all goes as planned, Wood Brothers Racing will be moved into its new home by the middle of next week and driver Ryan Blaney will be back with the team in 2017.

In an exclusive interview with FOXSports.com, Wood Brothers co-owner Len Wood said Friday that the team is almost entirely moved out of its shop in Harrisburg, North Carolina, and will be moving about 45 minutes away to Mooresville.

Wood said the team is moving into a former HScott Motorsports shop K&N Series shop near Mooresville Dragway. The facility is in a business park filled with racing teams and more importantly is very close to Penske Racing, with whom the Woods have a close affiliation.

“Right now, we’re 40 to 45 minutes from Penske, depending on traffic,” Wood told FOXSports.com. “But we’ll be less than 10 minutes away. That’ll make it much easier.”

The Wood Brothers had been in Harrisburg since late 2005, sharing the shop in recent years with JTG Daugherty Racing, which Len Wood said purchased the Woods’ portion of the facility earlier this year.

“Within the next few days, we’ll be completely gone,” Wood said of the Harrisburg shop.

As for Blaney, who had a successful rookie season in the Wood Brothers first full season of racing since 2008, Wood said the team intends to have him drive the No. 21 Ford again in 2017.

“From what we understand, everything’s a go, basically the same as what we have now,” said Wood. “We’re expecting him back. We don’t have anything written on paper, but we’ve been told to make preparations.”

Sounds to me like they are just a management company. Roger could run 2 more in house teams and yet he favors outside support. Is this Ford doing this? Does Roger know something that Rick doesn't? Very interesting scenario and yet the 21 is running so good. I think Team Penske is smart in that they don't have 500 people for 4 cars. HMS hasn't IMO run more that 3 very good at the same time. As the sponsorship dollar tightens, I think HMS will be downsizing in the near future.

Does penske ever do anything wrong in your estimation? Lol
