SPEED relaunch as FOX Sports 1 looks destined to happen

New member from Cleveland, OH. Knew this was coming, but can anyone offer a suggestion as to where to go to find SPEED Channel, or more NASCAR coverage? (speaking in generalities) Like we need any more analysis of college football. Spent the weekend at MI with family: son and I had been before but my wife and 15 y/o daughter were rookies. My ladies were blown away by the entire experience. Now they are into it and we've got no local source for updates. Thanks!

fire....check out www.tvracer.com all tha networks are listed at top......just click on... ta find ya carrier/channel/etc

I've seen numerous stick and ball sports fans on my Facebook complaining about Fox Sports 1 airing "too much NASCAR" and "too many cars driving in circles".

This is exactly why NASCAR will continue to get the shaft from Fox Sports 1. They're trying to attract football, baseball and basketbore fans - and most of those fans hate NASCAR more than they love other sports. If there's 30 seconds of NASCAR coverage on a highlight show, it's 30 seconds too much. I have a feeling when 2015 comes around and the current contract expires, we're going to see even more NASCAR programming get cut from the FS1 lineup.

FS1's stick and ball sports coverage is great - much better than ESPN. Their NASCAR coverage, what little there is, is even worse than SPEED and Fox and even TNT for that matter. Time to just admit, FS1 won't adequately serve racing fans. It's going after ESPN's market and the only way to do that is to go all in for football, baseball, basketball and soccer. NBCSN and MavTV are our only hope.

As a motorsports fan, this is what the Fox Sports 1 logo looks like to me.

checkin schedule on tvracer---friday-sunday.
still plenty a' racin on....... just gotta find diff channels .
plus.....all them goofy ass speed shows are gone.
still pissed bout fox missin last restart last nite tho.

Nascar(and racing in general) is looked down on by most sports fans. If FS1 can find any other programming that will bring in similar ratings, Nascar will be shown the door asap.

They still have a lot of motorsports programming, but I can think of at least two things right now that are potential issues.

First thing is content being moved to FS2, a channel that's available in less than 40 million homes. Grand-Am at Kansas last weekend was live on FS2, Modified Series was live on FS2 yesterday, looks like many Continental Tire races are being moved to FS2, same with Lucas Oil Dirt LMs, and it's going to get really bad next weekend when college football starts up. Next Saturday there are three practices among Cup and Nationwide along with Nationwide qualifying and as of now none of them are listed to be on TV because FOX/ESPN are showing football on their major platforms all day, so chances are they all end up on FS2. If more providers don't start picking up FS2 most race fans are going to be SOL.

Second thing is production. I hope I'm wrong or premature but it looks like their broadcasts are getting lazy just like ESPN's turned a long time ago. ESPN has always had a penchant for missing a restart, a big wreck, or a decisive pass. FS1 missing the first lap and a half of the final restart last night to show their umpteenth Crowd Goes Wild promo is simply inexcusable.

The biggest problem IMO is that the fans FS1 is trying to attract don't like NASCAR. If they were trying to attract NASCAR fans, Fox wouldn't have pulled the plug on SPEED. Football, baseball, basketbore, golf and soccer fans do not like NASCAR. They're already complaining about too much NASCAR coverage.

I think NASCAR on FS1 is going to look a lot like NASCAR on ESPN does now. There's already been too much money invested in NASCAR for FS1 to completely ignore it - but I'd say come 2015, the coverage will be minimal and the exposure on their highlight shows and talk shows will be non-existent.

Also, regarding the missed restart, didn't Fox Sports 1 promise side-by-side coverage? Or can we add that to the long list of things they've promised NASCAR fans and haven't delivered?

So what you guys are getting at is that it's gonna be **** telecasts in all three series from here on out? God I hope not.

If that does then that means Fox has poor business sense. Yes lets wait for the bigger more expensive contract to kick in so we can just move the sport on the back burner. Actually I think it will be the opposite. I think it will be much like in 2001 when Nascar first aired on Fox. Fox, TNT, and NBC did everything to cater to new fans. Even having Larry Mac spout off the same ole Nascar lingo time after time, where it just sickening. I didn't need to know what loose and tight meant every damn week. With more money going into Nascar I think Fox and NBC will revert back to their lets attract new fans phase. By doing so I think we will see more Nascar 101 programming. Difference this time? Fox will have 3 networks to spread it across.

call me a liar, but you flipped on FS1 pretty quickly. I am almost starting to think you never were going to give FS1 a chance, I mean it isnt like your precious MSNBCSN who can't even broadcast the only 2 ARCA races they have live.

As far as the last restart on Wednesday night I am chalking that up as an honest mistake. It is funny that nobody complained about SPEED's broadcasts until it was moved/changed names to FS1. Same people running the truck broadcasts at FS1 that were doing it at SPEED. Difference? Logo change.

.

Now this will piss me off. I don't really mind the news shows being gone and all but the live content being shuffled off to Fs2 is bull****.. Fs2 is not in enough homes..

I assume/hope that FS2 gets picked up. In fact, Fox is no doubt putting some of this live content on FS2 on purpose so that the hardcore fans call up Comcast and others to complain and demand FS2.
That's one of the reasons Fox was willing to bid so much for Nascar, for leverage to get wider carriage for FS2.

comcast already carries fs2......in sports package.......an digital preferred package
they did drop fs1 into digital starter package tho.

Holy cr*p on their Sportscenter-style highlight show their graphics take up 40% of the screen and they have THREE different logos telling me I'm watching Fox Sports.

This can't last long.

Do practice sessions, qualifying, and Truck races move the needle enough to gain significantly wider distribution? I don't really think so. In all of the press releases I've read on the 2015 contract, Cup and Nationwide races were given specific numbers (7 and 14) for coverage on FS1 but no mention of Truck race specifics. I'm thinking some of those will get moved to FS2 eventually as well.

comcast bought maj chunk in nbc.
fs1.....nbcsn.....now both on low starter tier.
but fs2 now on dig pref higher tier.......just like speed used ta be. varies w/ region.
see a pattern here?

get ready ta pay extra fer fs2......regardless a' provider.

There was a large increase for cable/satellite providers to carry FS1 over Speed. Trust me, everyone will pay more. The providers are not going to eat that cost.

FS1 is still at $0.23. They dropped their asking price and said they'll discuss it during their renegotiation period for their RSNs, YES Network, etc. The only providers that have new deals with FS1 are Charter and Comcast.

comcast had special clause where they only paid incr if others did too. so now they are at 23 too.
charter ?

freaking best race the last time at NH is gonna be on FS2.. ugh. Honestly, I wish They started FS1 in January. Course, that's the time they'd have no programming but at least races wouldn't be moved..

A lot of live coverage starts moving over to FS2 this weekend. Going through the listings, it looks like soon some more content like Truck, Whelen, and K&N Pro Series coverage will be on FS2 as well.

fl....fs2 is gonna be tha new speed channel....at least down south here.
fs2=premium level....just like speed was......practice...qual.....truck....whelen..k/n....fs2 gets whatever don't fit in fs1 package......which went ta basic level.....just like espn. .....
same ho.......different wig !! ha!

So after two weeks, Fox Sports looked at the ratings and appears to be moving all the UFC extra stuff from FS2 to FS1 and all the Nascar extra stuff from FS1 to FS2. FS2 is the new Speed channel basically, while FS1 is all in on UFC. At least until Fox gets MLB, NBA, or NFL rights.

Fox had been airing the UFC prelims on Fuel TV, and then FS2. But after two weeks, Fox decided to move it all over to FS1.

Well I knew that would happen.. Fights > Nascar practices..in terms of ratings. I'm just annoyed about the lower series races..

They only have MLB rights going into next year and college stuff but I think practices will be almost exclusively on FS2

I'm all for it as long as they get into more homes. That's the problem right now. FS2 doesn't have even half the distribution FS1 does.

@Kenny_Wallace
Next 3 weeks @FOXSports1 #NASCAR #Raceday TV show will be 2 hours long and #VictoryLane TV show will be back
