Spencer “Party Like It’s 1989” Gallagher issued Substance Abuse Penalty

Hey. Hey. Hey. Don't bust on Kurt. He is NASCAR royalty. His little brother is an idiot though.

Base upon your post it appears that you thought my post was negative towards Kurt. Not the case. Everything I wrote was in reference to another driver. That driver's checkered past seems to get conveniently overlooked.

^ I think that is a good move for GMS and for HMS. I've been a bit surprised to not see the HMS boys (not talking about JJ) logging track miles in Xfinity cars this year.

How many races is JH Nemechek committed to Ganassi? I would put him in where possible.

The guy should give AJ a percentage of his earnings for life. Penske was the only team willing to take a chance on Joey and that seat isn't open without AJ being an idiot.
I would like to know your source for this information. I believe a lot of teams would have been willing to put Joey in a car. Joey did a lot of winning as long as he didn't have his Cup CC. I firmly believe that was his problem and as we all know that CC soon left JGR to work for his buddy Stewart. Coincidence ???

I didn't realize so many Ned Flanders types are on here. Many of you guys on here grew up in the 60s 70s and 80s. Let he who is without sin get the first stoned.

Well, when it comes to the use of illegal substances, or the abuse of legal drugs, I AM without sin. When you get a chance to have the kind of job Spencer has, you have to conduct yourself to a higher standard than the masses, or pay the consequences. I don't care one way or another whether he ruins his racing career or not, but since he chose to put it in jeopardy by being stupid, I for one am not going to cut him the least bit of slack for it. For most of my life, a big part of my job was dependent on having a driver's license. That means I have avoided behavior that might cause me to lose it, no matter HOW tempting. That's called putting your big boy pants on and being a responsible adult, not a child.

From the time I was 15-21 I thought I was the red neck wiz Khalifa.

And then reality hit and I had to grow up. If I could smoke today I would, but I can’t because of responsibilities. Spencer is living the dream. Time to grow up.

Also let me add again I’ve never liked the kid to begin with. Seems like a punk ass spoiled brat.

I could go to prison for years being under any substance legal or not in my profession. Been clean and sober for over 25 years, had to if I wanted to work. I give Spenser a break, plenty of young guys who aren't in the limelight are losing jobs everyday. I have seen a bunch being in the job I was in. I almost was terminated if I didn't come up with the prescription from the cough medicine I took when I was sick. I didn't give it a thought until the drug testing place called me. It is that easy today, so many things they test for now days.

I may not be without sin, but I'm without this particular violation of the law. And yes, I grew up in the '60s and '70s. Recreational drug use was more prevalent then but was never practiced by a majority.

None of us know what substance was detected. Regardless of its legality, it's a violation of work place rules. Those have nothing to do with legality; they're entirely up to the employer to impose. If you don't like the rules at your work place, find another job.

What is being debated at this point? Mr. Gallagher tested positive for a banned substance, was suspended, accepted responsibility and admitted fault, and is apparently committed to the disciplinary and rehabilitation program NASCAR uses in such cases. What is left to do? Wag your finger and boast about how you don't have a substance abuse problem? Congrats, well done.

some guy refereed to a cartoon character to esplain why anybody who has been drunk or high shouldn't say anything. Even went backhanded Biblical. :D:p Might have been the cartoon character saying that though. IDK, I don't watch cartoons Had to Google who ol Ned was.

My High School years was in the late 70s. Drugs and pills was everywhere.
I saw what it did to my friends, a tombstone in one case.
I hated the stuff then including alcohol, and I still do (don't give a damn about Ned Flanders either).

So I am without sin, and gotta my stones. Put a kid in the car that isn't a dumbass.

God knows we wouldn't want to hurt his feelings........ Personally, I'd be a LOT more inclined to go easy on him if he told us what he used, how much he used, when he used it and why he used it. Until then, what he HAS said reads like a standard issue press release which impresses me not one iota.

That would be nice I guess, but I don't think it would help anything.

It would indicate to me that just maybe he MIGHT be honest and sincere about his mistake instead of just going through the perfunctory motions. Why not use the episode as a TEACHING experience for others who might be tempted to follow the same path? NASCAR might as well have wrote his statement to the press, and it wouldn't shock me if they DID.

As far as I'm concerned it's his and Nascar's business not mine. And I'm sure that he's been advised by council on what to say. Everyone I had aboard ship that failed one was advised to do the same. I just hope he learned his lesson and straightens out.

I'm neither impressed nor whatever the opposite of impressed would be. It's not my business, and I have no idea why one would care about those details and consider it essential to know. Both relevant parties prefer to handle the situation privately. Your need to reach a personal verdict is supposed to override that?

If you want the total trust of those that you compete against at 200 MPH, , If you want the support of a fan base that can chose or not chose to support you, and if you are going to ask major companies to write large checks to pay for your profession/hobby , then the answer should be YES it DOES matter. Once again, if you chose to live your life in spotlight of public scrutiny, then you must conduct your affairs to a higher standard or be prepared to answer uncomfortable questions.
