Sprint Cup Race - Darlington

And speaking of Darlington, one thing I miss is when teams would start running out of tires and start getting tires from other teams, so you'd have yellow tires on blue car. (I distinctly remember Rusty Wallace runnin yellow rims from the MW #30 car one year towards the end of the race)

I recall that too! If a car fell out of the race their pit box would be swarming with members of other teams waving fistfulls of hundred dollar bills, yo!

I just read that Danica Patrick will have Tab Boyd, Juan Pablo Montoya's former spotter, as her Sprint Cup spotter for Southern 500 at Darlington.

I sure hope it doesn't rain.

Not sure what you mean there Fender . Do you know this guys work ethic and abilities or are you just referring to Juan's accident .

Juan has run into a lot of things in his career. It just seems Danica has worked with her NW spotter for quite a few races, so why ask her to get used to a new spotter at Darlington? I'm sure it's a good choice, but it surprises me.

Do you know if any of the sites list the spotters name that is working with each driver ?

Did you know? Darlington opened in 1950, 62 yrs ago Pole speed in 1950 82 mph/Curtis Turner Last Year's pole 181 mph/Kasey Kahne.

I did listen to him during one race on the internet and found him to be very even tempered and helpful to her . He seemed excellent .

I agree. As with any driver, she gets flustered when her car is not handling well but TJ is a very calming presence for her. Tony Jr does a great job in that regard as well. It's fun listening to her scanner each week because it's rare to have a chance to listen in on someone who is still learning how to drive stock cars.

Danica said yesterday in her interview @ Charlotte that she needs someone up there spotting for her that can tell her how to drive the track, not someone just to tell her who is around her. Apparently Tab Boyd fits that need.

I was wondering about this and now I don't need to. Thanks.

Tab Boyd is a Very good spotter and has a great approach to handling new/young drivers. Don't blame Juans Daytona incident on him.

As expected Danica is the slowest. If she can just keep it pointed in the right direction with all fenders intact she can write it off as a good night.

I Love Darlinton :D

After first Cup Practice:
Drivers with Darlington stripes: #48-Johnson, #33-Leicht, #38-Gilliland, #56-Truex, Jr, #43-Almirola, #10-Patrick.
