Talladega RACE thread

I love short track, love road courses, love restrictor plate racing , love the variety

And the caution didn't initially come out for that. The caution didn't come out until they were on the back stretch, and, again, there were parts laying in the middle of the track.
No ****.

They wrecked way before they took the white. That's the problem.

The wreck STARTED just before the 11 took the white flag. Like a few seconds before.

Why should nascar throw a caution before they know for sure the track is going to be blocked with debris or wrecked cars?

No way nascar should throw a caution the moment a car gets sideways with just one lap to go. They could have spun off the track and there would have been no reason for a caution.

Well "way" might be pushing it but yeah, you are right. Still, the flag man was holding the white flag and the guy who pushes the yellow button was probably sipping his Pabst Blue Ribbon...they just weren't quick enough.
White flag was out, as much as I hate the douche Denny Hamlin and the finish it was the right call, nothing they could do.

Yeah, it was close but they had to eventually throw the caution. When the announcers were talking about that bumper laying in the middle of the frontstretch I was like "dude, they better not let this thing end under green."

A plastic bumper in the middle of the racing groove on the front stretch wouldn't be much of a problem for the cars, but maybe a real big problem when it goes flying into the grandstands .

I've ALWAYS hated the rule if the caution flys on the final lap the race is over. That's bull****. Do another GWC till we finish under green. I thought the whole point of GWC was to eliminate yellow/checkards finish, not give another excuse to have one.

I just have this vision of a bunch of old heavy set NASCAR "Officials" in the scorer's booth. One says: "Well this here race is about over...Bar-B-Que tonight! Then (spills beer) hold it...A SPIN!...push the button! No the other damn button!...too late...who's winning...Hamlin?!!...leave it green...who's bumper is that?...awe sh!t...throw the yellow."

Jeff Gordon on Brad

WHAT DID YOU SEE IN THAT ACCIDENT?

“Not much I just saw the No. 2 (Brad Keselowski) get turned. I had seen him for several laps driving over his head being pretty aggressive I guess trying to get his lap back. I knew he was laps down, but he wasn’t doing anybody any favors, nor himself. Then ultimately that was a wreck. I would like to see the video to know exactly what happened. Somebody might not have given him an inch there, but he was certainly taking probably more than he should have been in the situation he was in. I’m disappointed myself that we have all talked that we needed to get further to the front for that next pit stop. I don’t know if I had of waited a couple of more laps we might not have been in that one. We were making our way up there so I was pretty happy the progress we were making. Of course all it takes is one little incident like that and then you are in it.”

The big boys actually start racing instead of playing follow the leader, and Danica falls to the back. :idunno:
I guess Brad wasn't racing very hard when she was leading.:D You can only run as good as your overheating engine will allow you too.;)

How dega's advertisements should read next year:
In 2007- 2012 we had tandem racing. The racing was great, never a dull moment, the finishes were thrilling, the # of lead changes for a race was shattered, underdogs were racing up there with the weekly contenders, and we STILL produced the wrecks some of you fans wanted to see.
But dont worry, we changed all that.
Now, we have pack racing. No one is able to pass, cars run single file half the race, lead changes are at an all time low, and douche bag cautions are thrown whenever we feel like throwing them, which is usually too early to late or just unnecessary.
So, come to Dega and sleep through 499 miles of the most boring spectacle in sports! Tickets start at $99.

I completely disagree with your assessment. I hated tandem racing, thought it was boring. Sure, there were record "lead changes," but 90% of those lead changes were pre-orchestrated lead changes so the guy in the back could get air to his radiator. Certainly wasn't racing. It was synchronized swimming.

Did anyone hear JJ say before the race that he is locked into the chase as things stood right now?

Someone needs to explain the concept of being 'locked in' to the chase... AKA you are in no matter what happens in the future races.

I suppose his point is that if he's going to be questioned about the Chase now, than he is in the Chase as of now. Maybe...I don't know :idunno:

The race never broke open and just flat lined it till the end. Then again having Kosheslouski wrecking everyone didn't help.

Is it just me, or has the Chad/Jimmie combination been just a little "off" this year.
