Talladega RACE thread

Did I imagine it or did the car that tangled with Johnson slam the outside wall and stay on track, with the announcers completely missing it? I thought I saw it coming in on the hook during interviews.

Hope someone can help me. Jr was about 30th and I went outside to help my wife with groceries. Came back in and he was 8th. Was there a caution and he stayed out? Curious how he got all that track position and wondering if that's why he pitted while in the front after Gillian blew a tire. Frustrating finish after leading several laps. Thanks for any info.

Dale Junior's explanation ---

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...r-aarons-499-talladega-superspeedway/8701261/

TALLADEGA, Ala. — Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s track position was gone and there was a thick pack of cars in front of him spread three-wide across Talladega Superspeedway during Sunday's Aaron's 499.

He looked at the situation, figured all those cars would crash soon enough and decided it wasn't worth it to be part of the mess.

"You know they're going to crash and I can't afford to wreck anymore here," said Earnhardt, who sustained a concussion in a multi-car crash at Talladega in October 2012. "You've just got to pick your battles, and I felt like we were better off not getting in a wreck and trying to stay back there."

I still want to see a race at Dega live some day.. Still an experience.

For all the hate people give these races, was there ever a time when SS tracks like Dega and Daytona were worth watching?

I think they are still worth watching, but before the restrictor plates in 88 it was better racing imo.

Probably before restrictor plates, when there weren't big packs but you could still utilize the slingshot to pass, when attrition was through mechanical failures rather than 15-car wrecks, and when the surfaces were still bumpy and the cars weren't sucked to ground.

I dont blame him one bit, the superspeedway racing took his fathers life and injured Junior too. It doesnt seem worth it to take that much risk for a few races a year. I applaud Junior for coming out and saying the truth
Me2, good strategy in that position. Still curious why they pitted after the 38 blew a tire though. Not sure if he was low on fuel or what. Cost him a chance for a good finish.

It was Denny Hamlin for goodness sakes, there is no joy there for me Rev

I understand that. Kyle's car was good all day! You've got that!!!!!! TRD was kind enough to give him a fresh motor before all of it! ;)

A splash of fuel if I remember correctly. I dont think Junior wanted to be part of the ignorant mess he saw in front of him anyway

Gibbs looked fine today but its going to be back to normal next Sunday, they gained little today except for getting d-bag a win

Thanks for the info, missed that explanation during the race. Don't blame him at the end for hanging back.

They tested their asses off last week. They feel they are getting closer. Maybe a little momentum? Let's hope.

Well they didnt blow any engines today so thats a plus

1 TRD failure to date. Clint in Daytona. That's it. Kyle 3rd in points. Will be first with his next win, and driver, team, and manufacturer aren't even at their potential. We comin'!

And a winless Matt Kenseth, life is good :D

I didn't see the race, but watched all the low lights on YouTube, it seems apparent that Nascar needs to make the cars more stable by giving them back the full rear spoiler. I still don't know why they took it away in the first place, these cars are already so hard to handle when they are in a pack, taking away the spoiler just made it worse IMO.

I see we have some fresh faces on the forum. Welcome aboard @Wade
and @DixonMason

Let's try to make a good first impression for the FNGs shall we? :D

Lol please, like him or not, denny is a wheelman, 24 wins and counting. I'm a Kyle Busch fan first and foremost, but I still pull for all the Gibbs guys

He was handed a win with what looks to be a semi controversial finish, I'm just having a bit of fun with it. I do believe it's just more egg on the face of NASCAR than anything else.

Hamlin's win marks the third straight year a driver won their 300th Cup start. Kyle Busch did it at Texas last year and Kasey Kahne at Charlotte in 2012.
