Texas RACE thread

Jimmie's success is the product of a winning combination. Probably the best equipment available. The best crew chief. Jeff Gordon's pit crew. Good driver/crew chief communication.
Best driver? IMO, no.
When I think of best current driver regardless of equipment or personnel, Kurt Busch is probably the top of my list.

Five championships. Enough said. I don't care if Richard Petty has 20 championships - NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing is a different thing. Richard ran 100 lap races in 15 car fields 70 times a year. And even then, the only reason he won most of his championships was because he was the only driver to run even close to every single race most years.

>Jimmie Johnson wins 5 in a row
>Doesn't crack the top 5 in terms of legendary drivers

May I have what you're smoking, it must be some good ****.

Winning 5 straight doesn't make a difference. They still count as one per year.

You look at the old guys with 7 championships, 200 wins, 105 wins and so on and you begin to see things in perspective.

I wonder how many wins JJ would have if the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series raced 70 times a year. #perspective

You're making too much sense. GET OUT OF HERE.

Personally I like Jimmie on and off the track so this isn't hating on him or whatever Jimmie fans want to call it.

I'm merely just looking at the overall picture. Not just current.

In this sport, there are multiple greatest ever. Jimmie is the king of the current era. Hard to figured out?
Not as hard as it is for you to spell "figure".
Actually, I wanted to check myself as soon as I posted. It should probably be Greatest Of All Time (So Far).

That's all BS. First off Petty averaged 32 starts per year in 25 full seasons. He also averaged 8 DNF's due to mechanical failure each year. He built the cars and hauled them to the track, raced on dirt and torn up local tracks while dodging the local yokels. It wasn't any easier back then.

You can't compare Johnson to Earnhardt Sr or to Petty or to any of the other greats. They were great drivers in their own respective eras. In THIS era of NASCAR, Jimmie Johnson is the Greatness, DWI.

Jimmie reporting engine issue vibration. Says it's intermittent.

Are you about to become a JJ fan?;):D

Duide you're comparing two different eras.

You put Jimmie in Richard Petty's era and he'd probably doesn't win a championship, or perhaps he does but not as many for sure.

No, but there would be less hate if he weren't such a robot. Dale never would have had as many fans without his personality.

*shrugs* Different strokes for different folks. So Johnson isn't a "Good Ol' Boy" and doesn't act like it, doesn't detract from his accomplishment and it shouldn't.

He also had a huge corporate sponsor helping him financially, a luxury most drivers didn't have back then.

60 wins in NASCAR's "Modern Era" and four championships - still greatness. Not as good as Jimmie.

Seriously ask yourselves if Jimmie could drive the 78 into The Chase. If you are an honest man, your answer will be no.

No question JJ is with the best organization and the best CC. Kurt flat out wheeled that car into the chase, but he seems to lack the communication skills to get the car right so he doesn't have to drive so hard. Even at Penske, he lacked that part of the equation.
