The 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race

Haven't been able to watch qualifying today, but following along on Twitter. Glad to see Honda has found some speed.

The 1982 500 my favorite.
Gordy's last pit stop was beautiful and badass. And needed to steal one from a faster Rick Mears. I still love watching it.

That was awesome! Thanks for the reminder.

So damn close to having a Tennessean sitting on the pole of the Indy 500. ****** Canadian.

Only one criticism, Tags is in with no time, the 31rst and 32nd cars at 222, it may be time to shrink the field down to 27 cars.
Or it might be time for the slowest 6 cars to step up their game.

I only caught the fast 9 (fishing weekend). I was surprised to see a lot of the usual suspects hadn't made it into the the top 9, I wonder what happened. I noticed Townsend Bell made it and has a good starting position; I become a fan of his based on a good finish in the 500 while not being a regular in the series.

Does anyone know how much horsepower these motors have? I've been surprised to see them scrubbing off 12 to 15 mph or more in the corners. I guess that is just the way it is when you are tapped out with high gearing and low power.

I'd guess ~ 600 or so when they run race setup boost pressure here.

Driving a modified Corvette Z06, quadriplegic former IndyCar driver Sam Schmidt hit 152 MPH and set a new record - beating out his previous top speed of 97 MPH set two years ago
That is wild. I wonder what kind of controls they created?

Thing is - if they went with the old rules on horsepower and ground effects and everything else on these cars - today - and there was a crash - they would be finding car parts in the Wabash river.:D

Looks like 16 cars for the Indy Lights race. Don't have a clue who they are but it's always a fun race to watch.

Mafkn Carb Day everybody!!!!!

This is the biggest Carb Day crowd I've seen.
Yep.

This practice has been better than a lot of races I've seen. Guys trying to go into the turns three wide during practice is insane. I really hope that the weather cooperates for Sunday. This has the makings of being a great race.

It's nuts. These guys are racy as hell.

When I wads in my 20s and 30s what I liked most about the 500 was the inovation aspect of the cars running the race. Now the indy league has taken that all away from the race this is why I don't watch this racer and instead I watch F1.

That pennzoil paint scheme just looks bad ass on those Indy Cars.
