Kyle Busch wins final NASCAR Cup race on two-mile oval at Auto Club Speedway
Kyle Busch wins for Richard Childress Racing in a dominant showing that could mark the final Super Speedway NASCAR race in Southern California.www.latimes.com
…and they’re getting rid of one of the tracks.100k fans across two races in four weeks in SoCal.
More like 40%, but look for 80-90% full in SeptemberI've been there several times, and can say it's nowhere near 60% full in attendance tonight.
Slightly better than the last non-Covid spring race not on dirt.Attendance still looks better than some of the spring races
Looked like a decent turnout all things considered, and it looked like they all stayed until they dropped the checkered flag.Attendance still looks better than some of the spring races
I wondered that too. If they do this again next year, it needs to be a Saturday night on a non-Easter weekend. If the attendance doesn't improve, time to move on.I wonder what attendance would be if it wasn't Easter Sunday.
Easter Sunday is as big as Christmas in the south.

What about 3 Bristols lol.Maybe it’s time to knock Bristol down to one race and put another new track on the schedule?
That is probably going to be the move.If dirt is the only thing really keeping spring Bristol on the schedule I wouldn’t mind just switching it out for North Wilkesboro or the Nashville Fairgrounds, if/when the latter’s renovation ever happens.
+7.5 million viewers in two years, It's a gimmick.More TV viewers than Atlanta and COTA but let’s take if off the schedule.
Road courses typically rate lowest of all anyways.More TV viewers than Atlanta and COTA but let’s take if off the schedule.
Third Sunday of the month on a leap yearAll true, I’m sure. The broadcasters don’t care. They invoice each advertising minute based upon eyeball count ... more viewers bring a higher multiplication factor.
It’s not a matter of want. There are circumstances that led to them covering it with dirt in the first place.I never thought I'd see the day where fans were even thinking of being okay with having only one Bristol race a year. Holy moly. Its the coolest damn track on the schedule and we only want one? Fine, Ill compromise give me the gimmick dirt race then if it means they race there twice a year.
I dont know of the how and why Bristol was covered with dirt, at this point I dont care either. The racing was good on Sunday, I admit that. If it takes the dirt to keep two dates, then fine. I think it'd be a huge mistake to take a date from Bristol, it'd be really demoralizing for me personally as a fan if that happened. It’s not a matter of want. Bristol has only had one race a year for the last three now.I never thought I'd see the day where fans were even thinking of being okay with having only one Bristol race a year. Holy moly. Fair enough. I guess what I am trying to say is I hope both dates of racing are kept for there.Bristol has only had one race a year for the last three now.
Sunday night had 73 laps of caution; last year had 82, although some of those were in the rain. Those were 250 lap races.
The last five concrete races there averaged 73 laps of caution for a 500 lap race. If nothing else, this format eliminates half a race even before cautions occur. Toss in the lack of competitive pit stops.
What happened to the heat races?Bristol has only had one race a year for the last three now.

I'm tempted to say if NASCAR didn't count the caution laps in the heats, there's no reason to include the green ones in the total either. What happened to the heat races?
Well, it's been interesting reading about the efforts of somebody that watched the race trying to justify why he doesn't like the dirt race at Bristol. Counting cautions is a new one on me. Kinda a one man band kinda thing. lol. I enjoyed the hell out of the race and by the numbers it was a success. It will be interesting to see what happens for next years schedule.I'm tempted to say if NASCAR didn't count the caution laps in the heats, there's no reason to include the green ones in the total either.
But okay, 73 / 82 laps of caution out of 310. That's still around 25%, if you consider 15 laps to be a race. I don't.
I didn't count them. Racing Reference.Well, it's been interesting reading about the efforts of somebody that watched the race trying to justify why he doesn't like the dirt race at Bristol. How many cars can and do race on dirt, road races, short tracks, mile and a half's, super speedways and a coliseum? How many 5 speed dirt cars are there these days. I see why the drivers don’t like it, as a fan it’s been decent
