NASCAR boat races on wheels with sails in dry lake beds during tsunami seasons at night ...
Too gimmicky?..

If a car could walk water I would agree lol. I dunno I think they cancelled that NASCAR Euro exhibition.

Ice racing has been around awhile I think a TV network in the US should do a live ice race.

Maybe they can try ice eventually, bring some Cup stars and have it live on FS1 or USA or FS2. TV ratings in general are down.

I wasn’t disagreeing with you I think the Cup Series should be on dirt, I’m not sure the dirt package is the best.
I thought they did pretty well this year. I don't think they are going to completely re-design the car for only one race though. They didn't years ago.

I went to cota and saturday's attendance was way down where I sat compare to last year. Last year was hot and the temperature was similar so I don't know if it scared people away. On Sunday the crowd looked to be the same or maybe 1 or 2% down.

There was ice racing in NASCAR Thunder?? I played the hell out of those games growing up and never saw that. Sounds fun as hell.

Nah I’m just saying they should make it an exhibition or something in the winter with EuroSeries drivers and drivers like Larson, Busch, Elliott, Bubba Wallace, Hamlin, Reddick, Bell, Briscoe, maybe a few Xfinity or Truck drivers that can bring $, maybe Paul Menard out of retirement. Like an 18-30 car entry list.

You could literally give free tickets away to everyone for the Bristol spring race.... concrete, dirt, asphalt, ice, fill it with water and run boats... whatever.... you still would not fill the place. The Summer night race at Bristol is still THE ticket in NASCAR. Has been for 50 years, still is today. The track can't support 2 races if you're looking at attendance.

I think too many people are worried about counting seats for the spring race myself. Idk the attendance but it didn’t look any worse than the spring concrete races.

Yeah, and I really don't get it. Bristol is one of the most popular tracks in NASCAR. You'd think they could have THREE races a year there and have good turnouts for all of them.

What if both races were run at night? Move the spring race to May, and keep the other date in August. I would be curious to see how it works out.

I think the night race became too popular/hyped (and frankly, deservingly so) and any other event you attend at Bristol is a "watered-down" version.
And as others have said, the track is pretty remote, not enough hotels, etc.

THANK YOU! Honestly people don’t understand, you can’t “casually” attend Bristol. It’s pretty remote in East TN, far from any big cities with almost no lodging. Awesome place but you absolutely have to camp

I always stayed in Asheville. It's about 75 minutes down I-26, a bit twisty around the state line. The hotel rates were reasonable and plenty of decent places to eat.

Hotel or camping, for most fans attending will require a bit of planning, especially in August. If possible, make a couple of extra days and catch some white water rafting.

What if? They are both run at night this year.

A short track somewhere
I dont know of the how and why Bristol was covered with dirt, at this point I dont care either. The racing was good on Sunday, I admit that. If it takes the dirt to keep two dates, then fine. I think it'd be a huge mistake to take a date from Bristol, it'd be really demoralizing for me personally as a fan if that happened.
The problem is that they essentially took a date from Bristol for this race. That's how people see it anyway.

I've always felt that these short track races should be more spread out instead of all being run in the spring months when the weather is unpredictable. Granted, April is better than March, but still.

On top of the weather being iffy for these races, we follow Bristol and Martinsville up with months of races at tracks that just don't entertain fans.

According to what Richard Childress said in his interview, the Talladega crowd was the largest since 08 when Jr. won.

No way. There are empty seats in that photo in the upper section and they’ve taken out the backstretch and some of the frontstretch since then.

Several times in recent years the TV announcers said a race was a sellout when a lot of empty seats were visible in the grandstands.
And several times others have said the event can be sold out and some don't show up after they bought tickets. There isn't a law that says you have to attend or else last time I looked

It all comes down to what they define as a sell out. Most people would think that means no more tickets are available. Some venues consider it as low as 80% of available tickets sold.

Kind of like is a full field 36 or 40 cars?

Some were Booing the removal of the old victory tower which was in need of a total renovation with the replacements of much larger fan friendly viewing decks that not only increased the capacity in the infield but provided better access for the fans. Good move Pocono.

No. Its one of those take it for what its worth.
I noticed a lot of elbow room in some of those announced sellouts.
The direction is better than what it was a few years ago. Brian F.
almost augered this sanction a mile deep imo.

I was thinking about Brian and the NASCAR leadership a while back ago. Imagine being Jim France and Mike Helton 2008 or so til Brian's ousting. Money within the sport is drying up, there's an economic recession, TV viewership and attendance are dropping 10% y-o-y year after year, there's almost nothing you can change regarding the tracks/schedule, and the CEO of the company is totally incompetent and a druggie/alcoholic. I am hoping 10 years from now we'll get some more stories about what it was like in the C-suite during that time. I would think that total chaos is an understatement.

Of course you will never convince a seat counter, they will invent any excuse, but what the hell. This was at last weeks Martinsville.

Note: they younger people are paid plants, to make it look like young people actually care about Nascar racing.
