Again this year, I am bumping this thread. I hope new members (and some old members as well) will spend a few moments to read the original post and ponder the issues involved. (

I believe a civilized society should decide it can no longer abide the river of fatalities and severe debilitating injuries that flow from the Isle of Man TT, in light of the alternatives that deliver all of the good parts of motorcycle racing with only a small fraction of the bad parts. Others disagree, and their thoughts are valued here as well.
The Isle of Man TT is a perpetual killing machine. Just since 2000, the total loss is 60 racing deaths in a period of 18 years on the Snaefell Mountain Course. In the two years since this thread began, eight riders have died in eight separate crashes. As an old school motorcycle racer from way back, I can't imagine organizing such an event and selling it for profit. The TT should be stopped, now and forever, in favor of responsible closed circuit racing.
In the 72 years of racing since WW2, the Isle of Man has escaped rider fatalities in only two years... 1982 and 2001. I pray that we can add 2018 to that short list.
