WNBA 2025

Okay, I'm finally starting to see what you guys have seen in DiJonai Carrington all along. There's a clear pattern that has become much more apparent to me this season. Too many hard hits on players going up to the basket, too many reckless closeouts, etc. It's not cool.

This is an old clip from the beginning of June, but what is this? Come on, man.



I see DiJonai as the WNBA's Bruce Bowen. She's a great defensive player with a really unfortunate habit of doing dirty stuff. Even if it's all unintentional as she often claims, the girl is just outta control. She's gotta chill.
 
Sophie Cunningham had some big moments that killed any momentum Dallas had going in the final minutes.

Aliyah Boston has been a beast these past few games. Even in losses, it’s nice that there’s always someone who comes up with a big game.

It’s nice they held on in the fourth quarter but Dallas isn’t that good.

Caitlin needs to get healthy and get her groove back. Stephanie White needs to get her head cleared.

I really like Aari McDonald. She reminds me of Maurice Jones-Drew, aka Pocket Hercules.

Kelsey and Howard, enough said. We knew they’d both be great and they have been.
 
I haven't watched a Phoenix game yet this year but have been quietly keeping my eye on them via stat sheets. They're 12-4 after beating NY yesterday. AT just missed a triple-double with 17 points, 9 boards, and 15 assists. I'm definitely gonna have to check that game out.

I was ready to watch on ION and they switched games on me
in my area in favor of our local team the Dream. I had Fever
withdrawals for 2 1/2 hours. Glad the Fever got the dub.
 
Caught up on the recording this afternoon. It’s actually nuts how good Bueckers is this early into her rookie season. Just a phenomenal two-way talent.

Mitchell has finally come alive these last few games and reasserted herself as the best pure scorer in the league. She can score from all three levels. For the time being, Indiana’s success will be dictated by how consistently she can play.

I think they deserve some grace in that they’re still very shorthanded (Dantas is also playing internationally now), just had a long road trip, and had to play a back-to-back the past two nights. They came out with a very strong defensive intensity last night but that wasn’t really sustainable with all that in mind.

Paige is having a better rookie season than Clark was at this point last year. Obviously she and Indiana didn’t really get into a groove until the second half last year, but it’s scary to think of just how good Paige can be.

It’s so hard to take this league seriously when you have players and coaches taking time off for personal reasons, leaving to play internationally and what not.

I’d understand more if the season was nine months like the NBA or other sports.

There's some serious talent on this team. They've just got to be able to play basketball without drama.
 
That Phoenix/New York game was crazy. New York was missing a couple of key players - Jonquel Jones will be out for the next several weeks with an ankle injury, and Leonie Fiebich is playing for Germany in Eurobasket.

It's crazy to see how nasty Phoenix has gotten in such short time this season. They're really good on both ends of the floor, almost like Minnesota. It's AT, Satou Sabally, Kah Copper, and a crew of snipers like Sami Whitcomb, who set a WNBA record in that game with 15 made threes over two games.

As a team, they broke a couple of franchise records that night - most threes made in a game (18) and most assists in a game (30). AT's 15 assists, which she had for the second time this season, tied the franchise record for assists by a individual player. They also broke the WNBA record for most threes over two consecutive games (35).

I could watch AT play all day. The woman is a complete anomaly. I've never seen a basketball player like her before, a pure playmaker in a power forward's body who also does the traditional power forward things. She's leading the league in assists per game, she's a triple-double threat every time she steps on the court, and she does it all with two torn labrums. That's just insane. She's phenomenal.
 
Speaking of monster games, A'ja Wilson did A'ja Wilson things and had 26 points, 18 boards, and 7 assists in a 3 point win on the road against Phoenix yesterday. Also, The Little Valkyries That Could crushed Seattle. If you would have told me before the season started that they would have a better record than Vegas right now, and Vegas would be sitting at .500, I would've thought you were trolling.

I've watched Golden State a few times now, a couple times during the early, extra sloppy learning days and a time or two more recently. I knew Coach Nakase had them playing good D, but I was shocked to see that they're actually second in defensive rating right now behind Minnesota.

They are just the epitome of hustle, too. Win or lose, they never quit. It's been really nice to see the way those passionate Bay Area hoops fans have totally embraced them.

On paper, good move by Vegas in the short term. They desperately need depth down low with both Cheyenne Parker-Tyus and the captain of my All-Hustle Team, Megan Gustafson, out for the foreseeable future.

It’s a consequence of the W being off sequence from the rest of the club basketball world. I think at a minimum they should have some more allowances for teams to advantage of when their players leave in the middle of the season.

I suppose there’s no better time to expand than now, but going from 12 to 18 teams in such a short period of time is really aggressive. I’m not sure the talent pool is big enough for that, and the workload is probably set to get even harder, assuming 50% more teams means a lot more games. Players are already complaining about the cadence of the expanded schedule this year and there’s only so many days in either direction you can expand the calendar.

I hear ya. Given the choice, I'd rather there be too many spots for good players seeking to join the W than the current situation where there aren't enough spots. I also selfishly really want that Philly team. A Jersey team would be even better, but I'm definitely not gonna complain.

Yes, just let her rest up and get better. As long as Indiana makes the playoffs, which should be quite doable with the roster they have, they'll have as good a shot as anyone else.

Seems like they’re going all-in on the West Coast and Midwest as well. I understand there are a lot of reasons why the South is not a good fit right now, but Tampa Bay and Orlando have proven good homes for women’s sports. I’m a little bummed. Happy for everyone who got a team and wanted one though. The biggest upside is that all of those areas have existing infrastructure in place via the NBA to support a women’s team.

As big as basketball is in North Carolina, Raleigh (or Charlotte) should've been considered before Cleveland and Detroit. And Nashville should be considered before any midwest city.

I get being all in on the west coast. There's money out there and a lot of it.

I frequently see random headlines about this group and that group wanting to start a WNBA team in this city and that city. If this explosive growth continues, you guys will get teams eventually, too.
 
Good trade for Dallas, bad trade for Vegas. Vegas isn't going anywhere with or without Nalyssa Smith.

Agree, I believe the expansion is too fast for that many teams. would they have even considered expansion from 12 to 18 prior to the Caitlin Clark era. I think not.

Depth. Vegas desperately needed another big. They were pretty much down to just A'ja and Kiah Stokes with Megan Gustafson and Cheyenne Parker-Tyus both out.

South Carolina women also regularly get the highest attendance in the country and put out pro players every year. No question the Carolinas could support a team really well.
