NFL 2017-2018

Interests change I guess. Me, I'm good with the way it is and has been for a long, long time. I've got the Red Zone Channel that I play alongside whatever full game(s) I'm watching at the time. I'm good with watching full, out of market, games. Dish Network provided me with a pretty sweet setup. I can have as many as four channels on the screen at once. It works perfect for multiple sporting events especially when NASCAR and the NFL overlap.

For reasons I can't quite explain and are sort of baffling to me, I'm suddenly not into the NFL as much anymore. A post on why that might be

As awesome as the Red Zone channel is, its made watching a non-Skins game unappealing for me. And if you have removed that option, it makes sense to wonder.

Maybe the networks in the next TV deal should do a Red Zone thing instead of normal games. Like CBS gets morning one week and FOX gets afternoon, then they switch. Idk. But you’re right, it’s ruined regular games for me.

I found Jeff's article interesting because it sort of parallels my own letting go of football. And I was a huge fan.
It doesn't help that the league, and the networks, are still stuck in the 20th century. Local blackouts are terrible. Both networks not having doubleheaders all year long - terrible. We switched from a different TV provider this year (not my decision) and no longer have RedZone, and no one should pay out the ass for Sunday Ticket. Two of the three afternoon games I got OTA were TB @ GB and CLE @ LAC. I wonder why fewer people are watching? And I have to put up with the Bucs all ******* year, every year. The national TV games - terrible. A quarter of the league, that doesn't even include many of the real contenders, makes up most of the big 4:25 and SNF games. And the league keeps giving ESPN a ****** MNF package out of spite for something that happened over a decade ago.

Redzone channel is awesome. No commercials, no delays, no time devoted to annoying referees that throw a flag for no reason.

There are way too many delays during a game of football. Too many TV timeouts, too many penalties, too many replays. It completely disrupts the natural flow of the game. Most people like instant replay, but I absolutely despise it. I feel like the games are more about the referees than the players nowadays.

Maybe it's because I use it through Sling rather than traditional cable, but I've found there is a delay. It's only maybe a 15-25 second delay, but I assumed it'd be live as it happened.

Also, you can't hit anyone now without getting flagged/fined/suspended. For example.....

In college they would call that "targeting" (dumbest penalty in sports history) and he would be ejected. SMH
I'm happy with that. Better get ejected than have players who can't remember their address in 10 years or are in so much pain they become addicted to pain killers. A game doesn't have to be savage to be fun.

The NFL flexed the Jacksonville Jaguars game against the Seattle Seahawks to 4pm so they could show the Cowboys/Giants game at 1pm virtually nationwide on Fox. JFC.

Local blackouts are terrible.

These don't exist anymore.

The television stuff is a problem though. This weekend and next are a prime example. The NFL is putting games that have major playoff implications on the back burner to air the Dallas Cowboys nationally ... every single week. Honestly, this weekend, Fox should have the option of putting the Seattle/Jacksonville game on FS1.

When my year is up and my Sunday Ticket is up for renewal, I'm gonna find something to bitch about and call DIRECTV so they'll give me some discount on it. :growl:

I had to call them a few weeks ago because they started charging me like $16 for STARZ and added some package I didn't order to my account and charged me like $6 for it. I bitched about it and got an upgraded package that includes Olympic Channel and BBC News, and another package that includes Smithsonian for almost no charge.

I forgot that it was on the same weekend as Eagles @ Rams, and thought they were flexing it so they could show it nationwide. LOL, Silly me. Can't have a week where Dallas isn't shown to most of the country.

Not the blackouts where you can't see your home team but there's a rule where if your home team is playing a home game you can't see a game on the opposite network at the same time. So, with the Lions @ Bucs on FOX at 1 this weekend I can't watch Vikings @ Panthers on CBS at the same time, and instead get stuck with Redskins @ Chargers later in the day. And there are weeks where this results in only being able to see two afternoon games on a particular Sunday. It sucks.

They really should have the ability to use their cable networks as overflow channels.

There's really no excuse for Seattle/Jacksonville not being national. Dallas could go 4-12 and they'd still be nationally televised every week.

I'd be OK with Fox Sports 2 and CBS Sports Network being able to carry one regional game in the early afternoon as an overflow to the national one. But I suppose that almost kinda gets rid of the point of Sunday Ticket.

Give me a break. He hit the guy hard to force an incompletion. What should he have done differently in that situation? There was no headhunting, no intent to injure. Defenseless receiver? What a bunch of BS. There are times when they will literally throw a flag because the defender hit the offensive player too hard.

Leading with your helmet is bad, and headshots should be punished. Leading with your shoulder and jarring the ball loose is the defender's job. That's football.

Kinda sucks considering both Seattle and Jacksonville have as many wins as the Cowboys and Giants have combined.

As a Sunday Ticket subscriber, don't you already get every single Jacksonville game? I dropped DirecTV several years ago for Dish Network. When I did have DirecTV, I also had the Sunday Ticket package. They used to broadcast every out of market game. Now, I throw the RedZone channel up on the split screen or another TV to catch the action from every game. Not a moment of importance is missed.

Despite them not being anywhere close to the most popular team.....
I don't have a clue how popular any of the teams are. They've always designated the Cowboys as America's Team. I don't see even a hint of that around this Pittsburgh market. :D

Cincinnati is dirty. I don't think there's a team I dislike more than the Bengals right now.

Pittsburgh is gritty.
This past Monday night was a rare instance the the national audience get to see one of the twice a year Cincinnati/Pittsburgh match-ups. These two teams simply hate each other and each game mayhem ensues. This past Monday was especially costly.

Not sure about the team being 'dirty' but the sport would not be at a loss at all if Vontaze Burfict were to be gone from the sport. I don't know that there's a 'dirtier' player in the league. His main goal is to inflict injury on selected opponents. There are probably many that celebrate that type of play. I'm not one of them.

my dad always said the "spitter" romanski (sp) was the dirtiest player

Denver's Bill Romanowski.
yes. Im sorry u were talking about pitsburg.

on that subject....DPK..hbow do u feel about big ben? hes kinda a dirtbag with respect to how he treats women, etc but do you separate that from his football play?

Nope, I think he's an ahole but there's not a lot I can do about that. It looks like this is going to be his last season so he'll soon be a distant memory.

Ours is tonight. Saints @ Falcons tonight and Falcons @ Saints in two weeks. That's kinda strange being so close together. I hope the game is as good as it usually is. Geaux Saints. :D

Yeah, we'll be watching through half time or so. We've got our own night game again this Sunday. Fourth night game in a row for the Steelers. Once and a while is fine but week after week gets old, real quick.

Hue Jackson is 1-27 as the Browns head coach and Cleveland just announced he will return as the head coach next year.

:XXROFL:

He's done. Didn't take long to find another one.
The Steelers on Wednesday announced that they've signed linebacker Sean Spence to add depth at the position after Shazier's injury.

It’s not good,” Alessi said. “We’re not going to see him this season. He may not play football again.”

Although reports on Monday night indicated that Shazier suffered a spinal contusion, Alessi said the surgery means that’s not the case.

“This is a much more severe situation on our hands than we thought,” Alessi said.

The Steelers have not said whether Shazier has any movement in his legs, or whether they expect him to recover from his injury.

Well, the schedule isn’t on hold and the team is playoff bound. You can’t find it that surprising that the void had to be filled. Let’s just hope that Shazier can get back to leading a normal life outside football. That would a huge plus. Knowing the Steelers organization, Shazier will always have a place with them. The Rooney’s are good people. I think they’ll do whatever they can for Shazier and family.

:XXROFL:

Its actually smart, keep some type of consistency for the organization is a small step in the right direction.

The players love Hue, so it will keep the moral of the team up. The Browns play hard, they just lack talent and finally addressing the front office is the right move.

Still trying to figure out why our Fox station is showing Cowboys-Giants when Vikings-Panthers is such a bigger game.
