NASCAR announces 2019 MENCS rules

I think this is going to be one of the longest off seasons of recent memory. Probably since the announcement of the Chase concept. That too was an unknown heading into that 2004 season. It proved to be a great idea to some and a complete undermining of the sport to others. We got our little taste last May of a version of the upcoming changes. It seemed that a majority of the fans viewed what they saw favorably. That's the way our in-house thread leaned and it also seemed to be the way outside sources reported. Whatever it ends up being, it is what it is..... until it isn't again. Things change. Things in this sport change all the time. It's kind of like the weather..... You don't like what you see today but chances are you'll like what's around the corner.

People here and elsewhere love to trash the Nascar Fan Council. They say that it's a waste of time because Nascar doesn't listen to the fans. They're under the impression that the powers that be @ Nascar are hell-bent on driving this sport into the ground. The thing is, many of these changes that we are seeing are all things that have been proposed or asked about in a roundabout sort of way. Each and every week, Nascar Fan Council members are asked about their thoughts on the previous race. Subjects such as the satisfaction of lead changes, passing, overall enjoyment of the event and numerous other things. Think about it for a second..... If you've got fans stating that they aren't satisfied with those sorts of things, it's bound to change. A changin it is. They are listening and that could just be the problem.

Just wait though..... There are a lot of other changes that will soon take place. Some we're going to like. Others we won't so much. Shorter races, schedule shakeups, a weeknight race or two. They're all around the corner. How do I know this? I don't really. Just a prediction as the questions are being steered in that direction.

In any event, if you have overwhelming discontent in a product, you'll have change. If there's one thing in Nascar that remains consistent, it's change. Get used to it.
Bravo. :booya:

You all act like this car is new, it has a different grill, that's it.
I think you are a bit confused. Look who wrote the tweet. Last time I heard Rodney Childers is the crew chief for Kevin Harvick. He thinks it is new even if you and who ever think it isn't. I do think I will go with Rodney's assessment.

he won't know that.
Ummm yeh I know that, but look at the car, if you didn't know it was a Mustang and compared it to this seasons car looking at it from the side, you could not tell them apart. You all make a big deal about a supposedly "new" car, it's new in name ....pretty much everything else isn't.

I knew it, you don't have a clue. :p

That is the same for every manufacturer. Even when Toy came out with their new car, all they
had to do was change the front clip, the rest of the car is the same.
Change manufactures and you change the front clip and engine.

This is the last I am going to say about the Mustang in the Rules package for next years thread. The both of ya who think the car is the same from the front clip back I would suggest that you look at the rear facia and the three taillight treatment and the concave facia the light treatment is moulded to. Of course it probably won't define different to those of the trollish nature even though it is. I really don't care. Childers who has a different car with completely different characteristics and a completely different rules package is liking the car and the challenge of the new rules package which was the intent of the post. I hope that doesn't go completely over the heads of those with an agendas. BTW the picture of the new Mustang is in the Penske thread.

When everyone in the garage has to deal with all the changes, I put my money on Childers and Pearn to get it right the soonest. Now they have to convince the driver it is right. Again those 2 CC's are the best at handling the driver.

I would put Stevens in there also. I really think Busch although he will probably be whining, is going to be tough driving the larger track package.

Boy, that's a real stretch....given that the guy is fast in everything he drives.

About as different as Chevy going from the SS to the Camaro, and we all know how much the Chevy teams struggled with THAT.

The Mustang will have new headlight and exhaust decals and we don’t know how that will impact setups

Did they struggle or was Toyota and Ford on their game?

I don't think you can attribute the lack of success by Chevy to just Toyota and Ford running good. Other than the fluke Dillon win in the 500, they didn't win a race until August.

Thst fluke win was not a win, he crashed his way to victory. Two things here, Toyota was strong before the Camaro, SHR was also very strong. Chevy fell behind the learning curve.

No question that Chevy was somewhat behind going into 2018, but the Camaro, for whatever reason just buried them. The 24/9 team ended 2017 as hot as ANY team out there with the possible exception of Truex, and the first 2/3 of 2018 they couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat. The ONLY thing that changed was the car.

On the track, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will be going to a new rules package. Using aero ducts and tapered spacers along with a bigger spoiler and splitter, officials are looking to deliver better racing. In doing so, the expectation is the field will be closer.
“I think the racing will be better at the larger racetracks,” said Hamlin. “I can think of the two-mile racetracks in particular that it’s going to be substantially better. Some of the short tracks, it could be a challenge simply because of the aero. You’re going to be punching a bigger hole in the air. It’s tough to judge it until you see it, but I got to drive it a little bit and seemed pretty fun.”

Sounds like what Goodyear, drivers and forum members have been saying. Pack racing, flat footing and markedly less power. Oh goody!

I am not a Kyle fan, mainly because I dislike Pius Joe. However with 50+ wins, I put Kyle in the same league as Dale E. Both drivers dump CC's at will and are capable of winning with a top 10 car. Harvick NEEDS Childers, Truex NEEDS Pearn.

Interesting take. I agree on Truex, and I history tells us that you are right on Harvick, but I had never thought of it that way....

I am an old DE fan and his abilities was what made me a Nascar Fan. With a small attitude change Kyle could be the next DE.

God I hope not. Loved Earnhardt. There will never be another. I love KB. Don't want him to change anything. About time someone stayed true to who he is.

I like most of NASCAR Nation always hold my breath for Hamlin's insights. Said no one ever.

Now more than ever it'd be nice to bring back winter testing. Too much sitting around waiting and speculating for such a big change.

Life itself will change him and how he handles set backs.

It would make all the sense in the world, but NASCAR probably wants to limit the amount of time the engineers have to science this thing out. Wonder if they aren't buying a month or so before they string out again.

It's interesting to think about what impact the testing ban has had on the young guns.

I think the high down force cars on the shorter tracks will help them. That is what they grew up racing. I think it was Jones that said something like that.

I agree. This is going to be fun. Can't wait for Kyle to win his first, and say the car sucks. It will bring back wonderful memories, and provide many, many enduring posts.

I can’t wait for Kyle to call this new horsepower robbing dumbed down fiasco what it is. Watching heads explode will be hilarious

After he wins a bunch of races. That really pisses NASCAR off. :partytime
