Also, NASCAR has completely lost touch with the concept of qualifying. Mini heat races and drafting is not an accurate measure of individual speed. They might as well make them do a random draw every week like they do for the clash and skip qualifying altogether. Cuts on tire costs, fuel, etc., and still gives you a little bit of that circus feel that they're longing for.

Change happens, they dont race alone so why qualify alone.

The Czech track is less than 2 hours away from me. I seriously should go there, NASCAR won't come closer to me.

I didn't say it would be.....I just said that this would be the deal breaker for me....and I also said that it was my hope that MY TRD powered Toyota Camrys would be built with 6 inches of tolerance. I want them looking like those bagged cars hopping up and down the straight and a last place finish before I want a DQ.

I need some more TRD powered Toyotas to line up, or I won't be celebrating many poles. So be it. The more the merrier.

Other than announcing spec engine availability I think NASCAR has pushed a bunch of chips to the middle of the table. Will it work or will we be doing this same thing next year.

I suspect there will be a couple of DQs in the first half of the season and the teams will quickly learn NASCAR means business (assuming they really do). After that, the problem will pretty much go away.

Come on Rev, you are projecting defeat before we hit the track. If they truly need to draft I think Busch, Truex, Hamlin,Jones will be plenty.

Not as far as on-track, in-race performance goes, no.

There are plenty of ways to determine how starting lineups and / or pit assignments are determined. Current point standings, previous race finishing order, fastest or highest average practice speed, fastest single-lap qualifying session. All are equally valid. I favor the ones that are the best predictors of performance for that weekend's race. Single car, single lap doesn't seem to be the best predictor to me since they don't race that way. Personally, I favor doing away with Q entirely, basing starting order on 10-lap average in final practice, then 9-lap for those cars who didn't run 10, etc. If you can't crank out a top 10 average over multiple laps, you don't have any bidness being up front no matter how you've tricked out the car for single-lap speed. Scrap all that taped-over grill and cooling the engine down between runs and all that crap that won't be done under actual race conditions.

Some good changes being made for 2019, and I do like that wins and points will be stripped from the winner if found they cheated, thats something that has been needed to happen for a long time now, so props to NASCAR for finally making that change.

I think JJ Yeley or Timmy Hill would be great DQ candidates. Maybe NASCAR will prearrange some DQ’s to keep things looking kosher.

I am okay with it man! David Wilson agrees with me that we need more TRD Toyotas out there. Indeed, they could find each other, but we have seen time and again at Daytona that if you get split up, it is hell finding each other again. Might be a different deal in qualifying. In fact, I kind of like lining up by manufacturer!

I'm a little confused on this one. Hasn't this already happened in the past where they've been stripped of the win? Logano when he missed the playoffs? or Harvick back window thing? I forget what they called it technically.

Not necessarily. Miller said that the engines will be inspected at R&D after their duty cycle. Could be two weeks or more in my mind.

yep, but they got to keep the money..especially means something to the lower series when a certain cupper won last year and had an illegal car. Not any more..and that goes for any car they find in any position.
