2019 Las Vegas -- Pennzoil 400 -- Pre-Race Thread

So you think watching the trucks and cup cars at places like Dega look identical? I just want to understand. Lol.
Other than the way they'll race yes.. absolutely cannot tell the difference between the speeds on TV.. theres not that big of a difference from 170-200.. they're both extremely fast and with a camera following them the difference is just not noticeable.

It sounds like I made the right choice to watch The Grand Tour and Top Gear instead of watching the Kyle 2 hour practice session.

Like qualifying has mattered? How many times has a last place car from a top team make it back to the front pack? Yawn. Now instead of one or two, there will be a handful coming to the front. Ho hum. 1st stage is going to be wild.

I agree also. I don't think it will stay that way all year

“I’ll leave that up to you guys on how to wrap your arms around it,” Kevin Harvick said after winning the pole.

Personally, I’m OK with embracing it. But I certainly understand if others don’t.

NASCAR's qualifying dilemma is, if they went back to single car qualifying for cup, the lap times would be about the same as the trucks. That wouldn't look good. Can you imagine a Dartfish overlay comparison between the Cup pole winner and teenage beginners in trucks? Thus, drafting for the Cup guys... to elevate the pole speed above the truck pole.

Wow, two hole pages in the pre-race thread dedicated to qualifying. NASCAR must be on the right track to get everyone to take notice of what is happening on qualifying day!

I am at a loss. I didn't have a problem with qualifying. It was like a mini-race really. Matter of fact, I rather enjoyed it. I have absolutely no idea what people want, but this was okay. I felt like they qualified the way they are likely to race. Makes sense. BTW--I am very much filled with anticipation for Fontana as you are. I think that this might be epic. Seriously. As I posted somewhere else, I am anticipating a full house. Hotels sold out that usually aren't. Good stuff.

Under these rules it's not a bad idea.. I think the problem is they dont want it to take so long.

...about Kyle Busch's criticism of the new package at the Vegas test.........Where is the horror over this? Never mind, I know.

Honestly I think were in for either a great race or a wreckfest. Maybe both. The runs they get are pretty big.

I give it about a 15% chance of a game of follow the leader but I doubt it

Me too. It will be interesting for sure.

It's been a full house for the last 3 years. Do not attribute a sell out this year to mini-dega. ACS is the raciest track on the calendar and has been for the past few years.

Eh, kind of a sell out. I mean announced, but not real. I've seen it. Regardless, I think that the momentum is different this year. BTW--there have been more than a few who have been asking for a mini-Dega at Fontana for a few years. Less so because the racing has been good until last year where the perception was that it was bad due to Martin's domination. I believe that there is curiosity.

They might as well use the pace car and give them two laps to get their best time - kinda like qualifying heats. Parking on pit road isn't entertaining.

Yes Talladega everywhere. That's racin.....

Then they definitely got their wish. One hour of TV coverage for maybe 12 minutes of action - 2.5 minutes at the beginning and end of each of the first two rounds, and 2 minutes at the end of the last one.

Taking notice for all the wrong reasons.

Whoever came up with this idea of qualifying should be fined under Rule #62, subsection #12, line #17... Actions detrimental to entertainment.

I dont what the problem is, we had a blast watching it last night. Fun watching drivers shoot up the board and seeing different ones come and go over the run. Should be a great race.
