Daytona Firecracker Cup Series Night Pre-Race thread

The 2/24 issue is not an issue of blocking or not blocking... it’s an issue with this passive agressive stuff where the leader runs 7/10ths of a lane up from the bottom and relies on the cars behind him to lay off and not shoot the gap going into the corner when they have a run.

Kes got run over when he lifted during a run on the 24... he paid it back. Let the 24 know that if he’s gonna block 7/10ths of the low line, he’s gonna get 3/10ths of his car driven through if the choice is to wreck or be wrecked. Maybe next time the 24 goes all the way down to the yellow line before the 2 gets there, instead of playing chicken in the rear view mirror. Maybe Kes lifts. Who knows who learned what.

Total D-Bag move on Kes, I agree. But if it saves a 20 car wreck on the last lap because somebody learned something, then i’m all for it.

Byron went to talk to Kes about it. They hashed it out, Kes even apologized. They still disagree, but at least they both talked it out before it boils over again and 16 teams pay for it.

BK is forgetting to include the qualifier “bad” blocking like he said last year when he said he needed to wreck more people. Yup, blocking happens every plate race and BK does it as good as anyone. But the way I understand it, you better make your move well in advance, not right when the car is about to reach your bumper.
 
Thing is, Brad better not do anything like that himself tonight, and if he does and gets wrecked he better just accept it. Because if he blocks, he's going to get wrecked trust me.
 
Watch the video. It's clear that Byron came down and tried to run his car covering two lines to block. Look at the yellow lines as a reference.

I watched it in slow mo, I don't see anything to bad. I've seen way way worse. Brad's done way worse lol.
 
This might be good news for Logano and Blaney -- if Team Penske brings competitive cars, Kez is likely going to be the bumper magnet for both ends from having declared "open war" on the field (or karma)...
 
If everyone decides not to lift when someone throws a block, there will be no cars left.
Brad is as bad as anyone when blocking out front.

You guys are confusing racing with blocking, bottom line, the 24 had the perferred line, the 2 was NOT inside and hit him in the left rear. Thats wrecking someone by every racing definition. Anyway, you guys have at it
 
This stigma of NASCAR being dead is wild. Infield has had a nice chunk of folk. Got an autograph from Saurez, Hemric got canccelled. Got to see Blaney, Tony Stewart, and Bubba give interviews. Great stuff.

Having a blast, I need to be back for the 500.

You cant use that comment against me I took it back lol.. really though I dont think it was necessary for Brad to do that in practice.. but he made it clear last year he's done lifting and used that opportunity to remind people. If it had been a big wreck I'd have an issue but it wasnt.. so it's a non issue imo.. it may not have been the kind of block you'll see in the race but he definitely came down in front of a fast approaching car and had Brad lifted it may have been worse for more cars

That is factually incorrect. Byron was low, Brad was high with a run, Byron moved up to block, Brad juked low to pass, then Byron moved down to block again. The video is here...

And practice is the perfect time for Kez to deliver his message. Even Byron himself said, "No harm, no foul." Yeah, Chad Knaus later decided to go to the backup car, but starting at the rear is far better than receiving Brad's "lesson" during the actual race.

The 2 never had position on the 24 and turned him. Thats the fact. You guys can spin it all you want. Your partisanship not withstanding. And I mean that in the nicest way ;)

That's a completely different statement from what you've been saying over and over. Sure, the 2 was not *alongside* the 24, but so what? Blocking is allowed in Nascar, and so is retaliation against the one who blocks. And a late block is going to attract retaliation more often than one that is executed timely.

You can go back and read my posts, Ive stated over and over that the 2 never had position, if you are the lead car you have every right to choose your lane. Thats racing 101 and Brad knows that. I know he's your driver but Im really surprised you thought this was ok to do in practice, bush league move.
 
To think that next year, the Cup Race this weekend will be a 400 mile parade at Indy, who the **** thought THAT was a good idea? Seriously, all of the fellow fans I personally know hate Indy for stock cars
 
I can't stand Kes, but I can't see how he's in the wrong. Looked to me like Byron was trying to have his cake and eat it too by blocking both Kes and Logano, and Kes wasn't going to just lift him out of the kindness of his heart and lose the momentum of his lane.
 
Calling it right now. Daytona 2 will be back where it belongs in 2021, and Indy will be off the schedule entirely (good riddance, I say)
 
Oh well at least it looks like I can make it home from work before the race starts.
Have beer in the fridge .... Perfect Sunday afternoon.
