2021 Silly Season

Unless you're RWR I don't see any team expanding given this economy

Well if they go after Bubba then Ross does another year of Xfinity or maybe wont be racing for CGR after all because I believe I read Kurt Busch has another year left on his contract. RWR pulling in those sponsorship dollars!

If McDonalds want to pay to have Bubba in the car, I can't see any reason for CGR
being against it. They could always put Ross in the #43 car.

I still have a gut feeling that he is going to stay at RPM. I'm wondering would CashApp and World Wide Technology follow Bubba if he did leave RPM.
I agree he'll stay at RPM. I didn't make that clear in my previous post.
Pure speculation for what its worth but.... what if CGR with Bubba's sponsors (WWT and Cash App) from the 43 with some help from McDonalds can expand to three cars? Then you could have Ross, Kurt Busch and Bubba all on the same team. Pretty nice little team you have there. Would I wager on it happening.... no of course not. But it'd be nice to see a new car on the grid from one of the higher up teams in the sport.
Any wild guess where the charter would come from? Rick Ware's using his to print money.
To be honest, I was half of sleep when I created this account lol Yep, I totally misspelled his first name.
You might contact the mods and see if the can fix it for you.

At this point, you don't have any brand equity in the account. You could start another one and ask the mods to close the misspelled one.

Or not. ;)
... Ross could go rogue to the 6 or 48. Silly season guessing game.
I don't see Ross getting an offer for the #48 unless half the existing driver field gets COVID.

I agree, yet weirder things have happened, originally he was the front runner named in the who gets the 48 next thread.

based on the Xfinity season he's having this year though, it hasn't been a glowing endorsement, Gragson has outdone him.

I don’t think there should be much concern over openings for some of the young drivers... I’m looking at harvick, Kurt to soon step aside and honestly in 2-3 years Truex and Hamlin could also decide they’ve done what they hoped, and step aside...

Absolutely. I've been pretty disappointed in his performance in both trucks and Xfinity this year. He's never really been in contention to win races except for maybe the trucks race at Charlotte.

You realize he is 4th in Xfinity points right now? That's ahead of 3 JGR cars that no one can deny have superior equipment

Not really Gragson has two wins, one at a plate track and one where he wrecked a teammate. I'd say Ross has impressed in equipment that is less consistently fast than JRM/Penske/SHR.

good news for Preece fans: heard whispers that he'll be FT in a lower series ride. I'd think you might be able to draw some conclusions from some talk on DBC a few months ago...

The JGR drivers (except for Burton) are not all that talented. I expected Chastain to be in contention to win races, but he is almost never in contention to win at the end of the race.

Ricky Rudd, Darrell Waltrip, Bill Elliott, Geoff Bodine are among the group that have played in that world as well...

Offering a hand in ownership is definitely worth raising an eyebrow... didn’t see that coming

Team Owner Bubba Wallace?
Easy on the Bubba team owner statements. If this is anything like how most offers like this are made in he corporate world its likely in minority, non-voting shares in the company.

Companies do this because it really doesn't cost them anything up front. Typically they come with some language that if you leave (by your choice or theirs) at that time they purchase the shares from you at the current value of the company. Only other benefit is dividends on profits, but I can't imagine RPM is running at significant profit that it would be of much value. So basically what they offer really has no value until you leave.

Agreed. As a huge Hendrick fan the idea of downsizing scares me. I’m nervous that Hendrick might be going in the same direction as Roush.

I don't think they are downsizing. I think it's just a matter of time before they are back on top, or at least at the same level as JGR and Penske and SHR.

As far as silly season, here's how I see things shaking out...

Kez stays in the 2
Jones to the 5 (renumbered 48)
Bell to the 20
Briscoe to the 6
Chastain to the 42
Reddick stays in the 8
Bubba stays in the 43
Newman/Haley split time in the 37 (very unlikely, but I need something bold lol)
Larson to the 14, but not until '22

Bowyer moves into the Fox booth in '22 replacing Jeff Gordon, who moves into a bigger role at HMS

Did any of these gentlemen do a Polish Victory Lap in celebration of their owner / driver’s Cup Championship?

no.

I didn’t forget Alan... since you mentioned him in a reply, I left him out when I listed a few others ‘from that world’ who owned/drove...

Alan is definitely the first one to think about

There have been many owner/drivers in Nascar, but a much smaller subset would be drivers who are granted team ownership to drive. David Smith mentioned Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart in addition to the potential deal Bubba Wallace being discussed. (I don't recall the particulars of the Rusty Wallace/Roger Penske deal.)

I used the term owner loosely in my post. And a question mark, which one can decipher that I didn’t take the term “owner” and Bubba Wallace as serious as “owner” and Alan Kulwicki. I hope this statement is easier to take.

If RPM is making this offer, bubba must be getting serious interest from the 42. Supposedly McDonald's want him in the car. If they lose him I'd take a flier on a guy like Justin Haley or Corey Lajoie over Bowyer
Same in my opinion Bowyer is massively overrated 8 wins over almost 15 years

Has Kenseth made any statements about continuing his career?

It's clear is a Top 2 talent in the series with Briscoe. His cars have just not consistently had race winning speed.

He lost all momentum after Gordon wrecked him and SpinGate. Got back to winning with SHR, but has been mostly meh. Larson is championship contender, but Bowyer is just a borderline Chade driver at this point.
