2021 Silly Season

"That Jones Boy" is officially family...

I'm not sure he has much say in what happens as I fell Toyota pulls the strings around there more than anyone. But it was either him or Bell. You can't get rid of Denny, MTJ or Kyle at this point

Oh sure Toyota pulled the strings but Gibbs ran out of teams to stash his drivers at and now the chickens have come home to roost, he’s losing a talented driver and getting a really talented one in return but...these fellas don’t grow on trees. Later on down the road this one might hurt a bit for JGR

Everyone says Jones to the 48....I’m really intrigued at Jones at CGR in the 42. Gives Ganassi someone younger than he had in Larson to build around and has good talent

I feel bad for Jones. Just getting kicked to the curb for Toyota's darling boy Bell in a total panic move. I would have been curious to see this all unfold without Leavine closing up. Jones is a multi time winner (won a major) and brings his own sponsorship, he's not some scrub that would have made this a no brainer decision in a normal landscape.
I agree with your sentiments on Erik Jones, but am surprised by your comment on sponsorship. What sponsorship does Jones bring? There is no family money, AFAIK. I thought all the #20 sponsors were JGR sponsors of long standing. Did I miss something important?

I think that might be harder than one thinks. He's not really bring any sponsorship along....

I was under the assumption that Dewalt and Recers were "his" sponsors and would follow him to another car. I openly admit that that was my assumption though, just something a buddy had mentioned on why JGR may keep him longer term.

he’s the most mentioned suspect to get put into the 48, but if it’s not Jones... If y’all were bettin’ folks, who else would you guys put coin on getting that ride?

Anyone seriously considering Larson or Bubba for that seat? Who else?

brad is off the table... he was the only other name after jones I would read...

they were there while Kenseth had the keys to the 20, honestly there wasn’t really much of an addition in the primary sponsors when jones drove the 20 cup car

Stanley got moved onto the 20 for some races while Jones had the keys... BUT we all know that it’s black n decker who controls that, and they were already with Gibbs cup operation before going onto the #20.

that’s really the only additional #20 that has shown up since Erik got behind the wheel.

I just hate this for him. He deserved a better ‘go’ this season. that team was in dire need of some personnel refreshments... but it wasn’t gonna happen with the plans which everyone knew of after this year.

jones ends up wasting a season because it got off on the wrong foot and no one was willing to repair what needed repaired for the last few months.

I think hendrick locked Ally in through 2023, if I have that right???

so I don’t think there’s much concern on whoever is considered for the 48 seat

Obviously I have no inside info on HMS but they also have a few in the Chevy pipeline. Noah, Reddick, I guess even allgaier.

It has not been a good week for either Erik Jones or Bob Leavine. Here's what I posted a year ago, when LFR was eagerly signing up to be the fifth Gibbs car for 2020...

Gibbs won't need a 5th seat after 2020. Gibbs will use LFR for one year like Gibbs used the Barney Visser #77 for one year... to solve his immediate short-term problem. Gibbs left Visser holding the bag on #77 personnel and other infrastructure.

I hope Leavine enjoys his full factory support in 2020 with a rookie driver on a one-year deal, because 2021 will be like starting over again.

Probably true Jesus how sad is it that quality drivers are getting **** on while subpar guys with money get their rides

I think Childress would do anything ($$$) to keep Reddick. He's not letting him get away without one hell of a fight.
Drivers like Reddick need championship equipment. Richard will never let go of him, Tyler would need to make that call on his own. It’s easier when they understand its all a business and don’t get their emotions and guilt wrapped into it. ie Kyle Larson and Carl Edwards. Look at the leap Harvick made once he jumped ship.

He said he has him 1 more year, but we all know what a contract is worth these days

Exactly look at Harvick

Joey Logano 2.0

JGR and Toyota never learn

Honestly, that was probably a good move. Sometimes people just aren't fit for a team. Who's to say that Joey would have did as good at JGR as he is at Penske? We honestly will never know. Same here with Jones, he could go to another team, light the world on fire, but may have never done that at JGR. Hell, Kyle wasn't exactly doing much at HMS, he goes to JGR and becomes one of the best ever. I hope this works out well for Jones.

Man at this point if I was a young driver and offered a Gibbs ride it almost feel like a bad idea the only young driver they have really brought in themselves long term in the last 20 years is Hamlin.
