2021 Silly Season

Jones to the 43 would be the best thing to happen to RPM since Adam Petty

Since Hamilton and Andretti, if we're being honest.

That 43 car had good runs with both Almirola and Wallace, and Jones is a much better driver than both of them. They not only will be a top-20 team with Jones, they have a shot at the playoffs with him.

IMO the Jones/Toyota ship has sailed. He's spent 4 full time seasons in cup, 3 with the mothership and his results are not even in the same ballpark compare to the guys running the same equipment.

Not saying he's a bad driver, but in order to be successful I think he needs a complete change in the way things are run
Did you figure in the time in the series?

Is he? I mean he was arguably in better equipment. To me its not apples to apples

You are probably right. Although besides Denny, the mothership hasn't had a great year. Maybe a change of scenery will do him some good. I feel he is closer to a Logano talent, than say a Suarez.

my math might be wrong but for 18-20 Kyle had 13 wins, Denny has 13 wins and in 2 seasons MTJ has 8. Jones has 2 wins in 3 seasons with JGR equipment. So in the same time, with same equipment he's underachieving. Lets not he did run a full season in the 77 car with good equipment before coming to JGR

I've said this a lot but I really don't understand investing years of sub optimal performance for a team with a young guy just to kick them out before they're anywhere near their prime. Also Jones is younger than Bell.

You'd think with the millions Toyota invested into Bell's development they'd work just as hard to have a seat for him that doesn't come at the cost of another one of their development projects. They got pinched but it's kindof dumbfounding regardless.

I don't think Toyota does too bad a job of driver development but they have too many in the pipeline. With their 'quality over quantity' decision to limit their number of teams, they just don't have anywhere to put them. Two development cars for five Cup seats is too many, based on their sluggish turnover. I understand it's good business to bring Bubba in from outside but that's a new Toyota seat that could have gone to someone already on board. They should have replaced MWR ASAP.

Let’s goooooo. I want to see AJ in a cup car once again

I listened to that interview, he said he wants a chance to win the races not just to run a race, but I think Kaulig is by far his best option.

Allmendinger has done well as an Xfinity ringer. Probably do ok in that capacity in cup, maybe run top 5 in the road courses, but I don't think a full time ride is in the works. not a top ride anyway. He would need more road courses than what they have.

Except, as of late, Erik Jones is the best performing JGR car - with the exception of Hamlin's gifted win at Talladega.

Aric Almirola raced with Joe Gibbs in Xfinity and never lit the world on fire. His only win with JGR was the infamous Milwaukee race.

Erik Jones has won the Snowball Derby twice and the Winchester 400 three times. He's a Truck Series champion and has nine wins in Xfinity and two wins in Cup and he's only 24. That's a very damn impressive career to date.

Anyone who thinks Erik Jones isn't a top-tier talent is a racing illiterate. It's a no-brainer for RPM to sign him.

Jones and Allmendinger would be the two best options - and I say Allmendinger because, with six road courses, he'd stand a damn good chance at making the playoffs.

Hard to doubt it now that it is being reported by multiple unaffiliated outlets. It's the best seat remaining for Jones if Hendrick wasn't interested. The #43 would get the best driver they have had since...well, I don't know, but a long time. I hope they can provide him equipment to contend in, if not next year, then the year after that.

Agree 100%. I’m glad he’s still in Cup but bummed he’s not at SHR or HMS, he’s probably going to be Richards most talented driver with a vast potential in just about ever. If true, this all but confirms Larson to HMS

I have saw many people say how they hope he doesn't go there etc because of it being "bad" equipment. My thoughts are that if he is as good and some people say he is, and if the new car in '22 "levels the playing field" as much as a lot of people seem to believe, then this could actually be a great move for him.

Also I've never really understood how someone with the accomplishments and influence etc of Richard Petty cannot get more resources and/or support (even from the manufacturer).

It's a name. DEI failed with Sr.'s name attached to it. Wood Brother's is the holiest name our sport has and they have 3 wins in this millennium.

I understand your point and somewhat agree, however the same could be said about MJ and his new team, just for example. Also the wood Brothers still seemingly have a lot better equipment than RPM.
also I strongly believe Dale's death had a lot to do with DEI's downfall.

1) Richard's accomplishments as a driver are 25+ years in the past, and his accomplishments as an owner never equaled them.
2) Richard's day-to-day involvement with the team is minimal.
3) It's difficult to maintain influence with a manufacturer when you switch between them every few years, and when those you may have had leverage with have also been easing out of the sport for years.

The Woods have better equipment because their alliance is with Penske, a better team than the Childress team that RPM works with.

Wood brothers were part timing it and in pretty dire straights when Penske came in and rescued them. Petty hasn't been as fortunate, but they continue to scrape along and survive.

You’re missing some key points:
1.) MJ and Denny have Toyota support with what appears to be a JGR alliance. That’s huge for a start up team
2.) Wood Brothers are a satellite Penske team, sure it’s Wood Brothers in name still but they get technical info and chassis support from The Captain
3.) Richard Petty is just a figure head at RPM, this isnt the Petty Enterprises we are all familiar with.

I’m thinking my avatar will be updated soon, wonder if STP will come back?

Erik Jones would be the best driver they've had in decades. Bubba did very well this year though.

Kyle Larson appeared on Friday’s CBS This Morning. Sportscaster James Brown conducted an interview that was frank and pulled no punches. After the interview, Brown offered his opinion that Kyle is "the real deal" in terms of the sincerity of his efforts to learn about racial issues and improve himself as a man...

What everyone has been waiting on:

So the day Nascar has been dreading all season has finally come. Actually I figured they already had a deal worked out that he would wouldn't ask until after Phoenix.

So do we want to let him back in and be accused of allowing a racist (at least public perception in this society) to participate in our sport or to we deny him and get accused of having different rules for different drivers?

Dreading?

I wouldn't really say dreading, NASCAR PR is probably salivating over this opportunity to put his redemption story on the forefront.

And you don't think they're worried about blow back? I guarantee it
